STELLARTON Cancer is a disease that has touched Steve Curries family and hes one of the instructors at Pictou County Yoga who is doing his part to help find a cure.

Pictou County Yoga is holding two karma yoga sessions on Friday and asking for donations for the Canadian Cancer Societys Relay for Life, taking place in New Glasgow Friday, rather than payment from the participants.

Jen Burrows said for those who arent participating in the relay, this is a great way for people to give to the cause.

If people cant get out to the relay that night, this is a great opportunity to support it, she said.

Currie and instructor Jen Sims are volunteering their time to hold classes on the rooftop studio at Pictou County Yoga at 6:15 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. All ages and abilities are welcome and any donation for the Relay for Life is welcome.

Burrows said the idea for the fundraising yoga classes came up when Sims brought up the fact that International Day of Yoga and the Relay for Life were happening on the same day this year.

It seemed like a perfect fit to do both, to celebrate both at the same time, Burrows said.

Sims added that its also summer solstice on Friday and she encourages people to come to Pictou County Yoga and celebrate the beginning of summer, yoga and the Relay for Life.

Burrows said if the weather is questionable, participants are encouraged to check Pictou County Yogas Facebook page and website (pictoucountyyoga.com) to see if there is a change in location.
