CORVALLIS, Ore. A Hindu statesman applauds Crescent Valley High School for offering a yoga camp, saying yoga is an important exercise for the mind, body, and soul.

Yoga is a form of exercise, but its not just that. For some people, its a lifestyle.

During the school year, I get up at 5 to get an hour to an hour and a half of practice in, said CVHS senior Victoria Jansen. And then I get ready for school, and sometimes I go to classes in the afternoon.

Jansen helped bring the week-long summer camp to CV. She says yoga can be a healthy outlet for people to turn to.

I had some issues with food and other things self image issues, Jansen said. And I found that when I was in my yoga class, I wasnt thinking about that. I wasnt thinking about my friendship issues in high school. I wasnt thinking about my problems with eating I was just thinking about myself in the moment.

The camp is also getting some international attention!

It was wonderful; I was really pleased to know about it that a high school in Oregon, in Corvallis, is offering it, said Rajan Zed, the President of the Universal Society of Hinduism. It was really a pleasant experience to know that.

Zed, a spokesperson for Hinduism, is applauding Crescent Valley for its wellness efforts, saying that offering yoga is a step in the right direction.

Our mission really is to improve the wellness of our students and staff, and provide opportunities for them in the school and outside of school to be healthier people, CVHS counselor Robbie Cox said.

Cox is also the president of CVs Wellness Council, and he says the group is hoping to offer more yoga opportunities for students and staff once school starts next month. He says the camp was a trial of sorts, to see how many people were interested.
