SINGAPORE: The Hindu Endowments Board's Ashram Halfway House has been awarded the ISO 9001:2008 certification for quality service, the first halfway house to receive such a certification. The Halfway House was presented the award by Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs Masagos Zulkifli on Monday (Jan 12).

The award depicts institutional stability, integrity and the home's commitment to meet the needs of returning offenders. Officers from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Singapore Prison Service were also at the ceremony.

The Ashram Halfway House is run by the Hindu Endowments Board, which is a statutory board under the purview of MCCY. It is the only Indian halfway house in the Republic that assists in rehabilitation and reintegration of penal offenders, probationers, ex-drug addicts, residents and clients from the Hindu or Indian community, as well as other communities, into Singapore society.

Mr Masagos said: "Any of these programmes, any of these halfway houses, should contribute towards the reintegration of the ex-offenders, as well as their rehabilitation, so that they do not risk getting back into the crimes they were caught for in the first place."
