The footlong Wellington costs 12, serves six and is available at 26 sites, including delivery

THIS, the hyper-realistic creators of plant-based food, has teamed up with artisan bakery, Coughlans, to create the UKs first vegan bacon Wellington.

The limited-edition Wellington features Coughlans homemade mushroom-based beef, a flavoursome mix of 20 herbs and spices wrapped in the UKs most realistic plant-based rashers, THIS Isnt Bacon, baked in a vegan puff pastry topped with thyme and rosemary.

Priced at 12, the plant-based meaty and mighty footlong THIS Isnt Bacon Wellington serves six people, and is available at all 26 Coughlans bakeries now and for delivery across South London and Surrey from 29 November 2020. Each mouthwatering bite offers a juicy and meat-like savoury taste combined with a crunchy texture from the flaky pastry and crispiness of THIS Isnt Bacon.

The first vegan Wellington of its kind, pastry and bacon fans are getting excited exclaiming, I need this!!! on Instagram. Some are already planning to make THIS Isnt Bacon Wellington the centrepiece of the Christmas dinner table as one Instagram user comments, Omg, thats Christmas and Boxing Day dinner sorted!, whilst another said, Cant wait to try this on Christmas Day!

An innovative and family British bakery established in 1937, Coughlans is also comedian Romesh Ranganathans favourite bakery that baked him his favourite birthday cake last year.

Sean Coughlan, Founder of Coughlans Bakery, says: Ive made it my mission to come up with great tasting vegan food by using our traditional skills, so nearly all of our customers cant tell the difference between the meat and meat-free versions of our pastries.

After months of test recipes, our vegan beef in the Wellington takes three days to make and the addition of THIS Isnt Bacon gives it that extra dimension to make the perfect pairing. We add a few more important secret ingredients that pack the Wellington with that meaty flavour.

Andy Shovel, Co-Founder of THIS, says: This is one of the most innovative launches Ive seen. Our mission is to be the plant-based brand for meat-lovers and Wellington is a stalwart. The Coughlans team have done an amazing job.

THIS continues to be a plant-based hit in innovative dishes. In September 2020, THIS Isnt Bacon was the first vegan meat to feature on a Michelin star restaurant menu, The Harwood Arms, to offer a meaty taste to the gastropubs first ever vegetarian Scotch Egg.

THIS Isnt Bacon Wellington costs 12, serves six people, and is available now for takeaway at all 25 Coughlans Bakery sites in South London and Surrey, and for delivery on Deliveroo, Uber Eats, and Just Eat from 29 November 2020 throughout Winter.

About THIS

THIS was set up by meat lovers, Andy Shovel and Pete Sharman, who successfully exited beef burger chain Chosen Bun. They channelled their in-depth knowledge of meat to create THIS, arguably the most realistic chicken and bacon meat-alternatives in the world. Following two years of research and development, partnering with world-leading texture scientists and flavourists, THIS mimics meat in taste, texture, appearance and nutrition, but without the ethical or environmental impact, instead using peas and soya beans as the base.

THIS challenges legacy plant-based meat brands by targeting meat-reducers as opposed to purely vegans.

Retailers; Tesco, Waitrose, Ocado, Co-op, Milk & More, The Vegan Kind, and now Sainsburys and ASDA
