Vedic students clad in dhoti-kurta and sporting a tripund on their foreheads were playing cricket and the commentators too were wearing the traditional attire of dhoti-kurta. The players entered the ground reciting Manglacharan and Veda mantras. City South MLA Neelkanth Tiwari inaugurated the match by playing some balls with the batukas. Earlier, the players were introduced to him in Sanskrit. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the MLA said that such events should be organized to encourage the Sanskrit language and its students.The organiser of the event and the principal of the college, Pawan Kumar Shukla said that due to its unique nature, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had praised the event in his Mann Ki Baat programme. All the rules of the match were similar to that of any international cricket match. Former players Dheeraj Mishra and Sanjeev Tiwari were in the role of umpire and Ashok Pandey was referee.Four teams which participated in this one-day match were- Shri Shastrarth Mahavidyalaya, International Chandramouli Charitable Sanskrit Institute, Challa Shastri Ved-Vedang Sanskrit Vidyalaya and Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Institute.All the spectators present on the field were thrilled to see the cricketers wearing dhoti-kurta with tilak. The commentary in Sanskrit was done by the scholars of grammar Sheshnarayan Mishra and Vikas Dixit.Earlier, the former principal of the college, Ganesh Dutt Shastri and manager Vinod Rao Pathak welcomed the MLA by offering ang-vastram.
