A survey of 2,000 adults revealed 88 per cent look to music when they feel low, with rock and pop the uplifting genres.
Nearly a third also said listening to classical music helps them.
Podcasts also do the job, with one in five listening to comedy for a boost and another fifth enjoying those based on the arts and entertainment.
The research was commissioned by Spotify, who have teamed up with charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) to help bring further awareness to Mental Health Awareness Week.

The online streaming platform has created a Mental Health Awareness Week Hub in the form of dedicated podcasts and music playlists in partnership with CALM experts, podcast creators and some familiar faces from music and entertainment, including rap artist Tinie Tempah.
Theres a lot of people who I know from the area that Ive grown up in that are trying to make sure theyre keeping their minds intact. Because its not easy, said the British artist.
The further down the road you get in life, you can start to lose touch with things. Things can start to make less and less sense.

So, its really important to make sure that youre keeping close to family, loved ones, people who will tell you about yourself.
Make sure that youre checking in with your loved ones. And make sure that youre spreading love in this crazy time.
The study also found that listeners who primarily opted for music for a boost look to tracks with an uplifting beat, according to the research carried out via OnePoll, but also those which invoke happy memories for them.

Meaningful lyrics, feelings of nostalgia and those from favourite artists were also some of the aspects of music people find helpful.
It also emerged 40 per cent of adults share music or playlists with loved ones in an attempt to give them a boost.
Health and lifestyle podcasts, as well as those for meditation and relaxation were also seen to help improve the mood of nearly one in five respondents.

Tennessee to lift capacity and live music restrictions for restaurants in 89 counties, allow large attractions to reopen on Friday – WBIR.com
Posted: at 2:45 pm
The state Economic Recovery Group announced Friday it will be lifting the 50% capacity restrictions on restaurants and retail stores effective May 22.
Tennessee leaders are further relaxing business restrictions for most counties as the state continues to reopen.
The state Economic Recovery Group announced Friday it will be lifting the 50% capacity restrictions on restaurants and retail stores effective May 22 in 89 counties, excluding larger counties such as Knox County.
Live music will also be allowed with appropriate precautions. Restaurant bars should remain closed unless used for seated, in-restaurant dining where there is at least 6 feet of separation between customers.
The state will also allow large non-contact attractions to open on May 22. These include any business that can practice social distancing with strong measures to protect employees and customers, including racetracks, amusement parks, water parks, theaters, dinner theaters, museums, auditoriums and more.
Shortly after the announcement, Dollywood said it would be announcing its opening plans "soon."
Restrictions on gatherings of more than 10 people remain in place for the time being. Restaurants are still being advised to follow social distancing guidelines, including keeping 6 feet between tables.
These rules do not apply to Knox, Shelby, Hamilton, Madison, Davidson, or Sullivan counties, as those are leading their own reopening efforts separate from the state.
The Knox County Health Department responded Friday: "The Knox County Health Department is continuing to monitor all of the local data, in addition to collaborating with the Knoxville-Knox County Reopening Task Force to review feedback on reopening from businesses and community members. More information on Phase Two will be made available by Thursday."
Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs said he sees no reason why Knox County can't follow suit.
"Knox County is in a great position to do this because we are lower risk than the rest of the State and we continue to trend in the right direction," he said. "COVID-19 is not going away anytime soon so we must continue take personal responsibility to protect ourselves and our community by following physical distancing guidelines and other public health recommendations.
Lee congratulated Tennesseans for working to quell the virus.
Tennesseans have worked incredibly hard to do their part and help slow the spread of COVID-19 so that our state can begin to reopen. Thanks to their continued efforts, were able to allow restaurants and retail businesses to operate at greater capacity and large attractions to open in a safe and thoughtful way, said Governor Bill Lee. Our state continues to see downward trends in case growth and meets the White House criteria for a phased reopening. This progress has been hard-won, and we can build upon it by reopening while also maintaining common-sense safety measures like mask-wearing and good hygiene. By taking the Tennessee Pledge, our businesses can reopen in a way that protects the health of their customers and employees, and protects the livelihoods of hard-working Tennesseans."
Lee said Tennessee has met White House state guidelines for phased reopening, including having a downward trajectory of COVID or influenza-like illnesses reported in a 14-day period and a downward trajectory of cases.
The state said hospital capacity remains sufficient to meet the needs of patients as the state meets testing goals of 2% of the population per month.

From relaxing the mind to preventing fatigue: Health benefits of sound massage therapy you should know – PINKVILLA
Posted: at 2:45 pm
Sound massage therapy is done by creating different sound vibrations and frequencies to transfer them through the entire body. This is predominantly used to reduce stress and fatigue. Read on to know more about this massage therapy.
Sound healing has been used since more than 5000 years. In Germany, research on sound is constantly advancing and the benefits of sound massage therapy are also increasing. Sound massage therapy is done on a fully-clothed person by playing Himalayan singing bowls with felt mallet to create a soothing sound and gentle vibration. The bowls are strategically placed around the body to send a vibration through it and relax the body.
Sound massage therapy uses sound waves to produce gentle rhythmic pulsations. These pulsations are sent through the entire body which massage the cells to release the stored tension in the body. This massage therapy is highly beneficial for releasing our stress to make us relaxed and rejuvenated. So, here is everything you should know about sound massage right below.
Health Benefits of Sound Massage Therapy:
How does sound work for the therapy?
As it is already mentioned that in this therapy, sound waves are used to create vibrations or rhythmic pulsations. These vibrations are sent through the body to release trapped tension in our body. Along with this, the frequencies created by the sound are good for having a calm effect on the body and a meditative state in the brain. And when the brain reaches the meditative state, we can rejuvenate ourselves and find peace of mind. The bowls used for the massage therapy are in different metals, size and weight to create different vibrations and frequencies. Sound massage therapy is good for people of all ages including children and pregnant women. But you should also consult your doctor before opting for the massage therapy.
Sound Massage Therapy Health Benefits:
1- Soothing and relaxing music or chanting relaxes our mind and body and loosens muscles so that we can have a sound sleep. So, sound massage therapy is also good for having a deep sleep.
2- This sound massage is also highly beneficial for preventing fatigue. And due to prolonged stress and fatigue, cognitive functions in our brain are also decreased. So, sound therapy helps to ward off stress and fatigue.
3- We perceive the sound through our sense or nervous system. So, these senses can block the slower moving pain signals so that we cannot sense them. Infact, studies have also confirmed that sound therapy helps to reduce pain.
4- When we are highly stressed out, our hormones also get imbalanced. So, predominantly due to the reduction of stress and fatigue, endocrine hormone levels are corrected in this massage therapy.
5- When the stress is reduced, hormones are balanced, body and mind are relaxed, eventually we can combat depression or anxiety. So, sound massage therapy is highly recommended for people with depression as well.
6- Sound massage therapies can restore cellular activities by improving the functions of membrane walls and biologic activities.
7- The specific sound waves created in this therapy can stimulate DNAs to repair itself.

I wish for you a life of wealth, health and happiness; a life in which you give to yourself the gift of patience, the virtue of reason, the value of knowledge, and the influence of faith in your own ability to dream about and to achieve worthy rewards. Jim Rohn
Table of Contents
One day my mentor, Mr. Earl Shoaff, said to me, Jim, if you want to be wealthy and happy, learn this lesson well: Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job. I must admit that this was the most challenging assignment of all. This business of personal development lasts a lifetime.
You see, what you become is far more important than what you get. The important question to ask on the job is not, What am I getting? Instead, you should ask, What am I becoming? What you become directly influences what you get. Think of it this way: Most of what you have today, you have attracted by becoming the person you are today.
Ive also found that income rarely exceeds personal development. Sometimes income takes a lucky jump, but unless you learn to handle the responsibilities that come with it, it will usually shrink back to the amount you can handle.
It is hard to keep that which has not been obtained through personal development. So heres the great axiom of life: To have more than youve got, become more than you are.
The marketplace is a demanding place. There is plenty of opportunity, but youve got to get ready for it and prepare for it. Weve got to spend a portion of this year getting ready for next year, and weve got to spend a portion of this decade getting ready for the next decade. Hopefully the reason why were here, looking well, doing fairly well, is because we spent a portion of the last decade getting ready for thisdecade.
A big share of life is spent getting ready, getting prepared, and part of it is the development of skills that make for success in the marketplace. It starts with personal development, self-improvement and making measurableprogress.
Personal development is a push. Its a struggle. Its a challenge. There wouldnt be any winning without a challenge. Thats what life is all about. Its the struggle and the challenge to develop ourselves and our skills to see what we can create in the way of value in the marketplace. Its taking those skills and value to the marketplace and seeing what it will return for us.
New habits dont come easy, but they can be developed. Sometimes when you develop a lot of momentum in one direction, its not that easy to change, but it is possible. It isnt easy, but its possible. Somebody once said, Success is 10 percent inspiration and 90 percent perspiration. Youve just got to read the books, learn the skills, put yourself through the paces, do the mental pushups and get yourself ready.
Inspiration is fine, but inspiration must lead to discipline. Its one thing to be motivated, but its another thing to be motivated sufficiently to take the classes, do the reading, do the repetition, go through it over and over, until it becomes part of you. And those are challenges. Theyre not easy, but theyre challenges that if you win and develop and grow, thats what determines your place, your return, your equity, the worth you get from the marketplace.
Pick up the essential pocket guides for your best life from Jim Rohn for yourself or as a cherished gift!
Ive divided personal development into three parts.
Some people believe were just an extension and an advanced form of the animal species, but I believe humans are unique. I believe our spiritual qualities make us different from all other creations. Now I consider myself an amateur in this area, but regardless of your background, I think you should evaluate what growth and change you want to make in this vital area. Spiritual and ethical values will help build a strong foundation underneath your quest for wealth and happiness.
I would recommend you be a student of the spiritual side of your nature. Make sure you study, practice and teach. Dont be careless about this because its what makes us who we are, different from dogs, cats, birds and mice. Whatever you have to read and assimilate to develop in this area, I would strongly suggest you do.
The body and mind work together. And for your mind to have the stamina to strive, your body should be in as good shape as possible.
Youve heard the phrase, Treat your body like a temple. A templenot a bad word. Something you would take extremely good care of. Treat your body like a temple, not a woodshed, right? A temple. Take good care ofit.
The only house we have to live in is the physical body, and thats part of success in the marketplace. Thats physical well-being. Its feeling good about yourself physically so that you stride into the marketplace with a sense of self-worth and self-confidence, and it covers several parts.
Do you have a regular exercise program? If not, find one you can follow and get started. In addition, make sure you pay attention to the food you eat. Read all the books about nutrition to make up your own mind and decide for yourself a good health plan for you.
Then theres physical appearance. Be skillful enough to take care of your appearance in the marketplace. It has a lot to do with your acceptance. A big share of it is how you appear to other peopleon the job, in the community. Theres a saying that goes, God looks on the inside, and people look on the outside. Thats not a bad suggestion, meaning: Take care of the inside for God, and take care of the outside for people. Maybe you think people shouldnt judge you by your appearance. Well, let me tell you, they do! Dont base your life onshouldandshouldnt. Only base your life on realities. Sure, when people get to know you, theyll judge you by more than what they see, but at first, theyre going to take a look.
Now, Ive got another good phrase for you. It says, Be conscious of self, but not self-conscious. Theres a certain point that we need to be conscious of ourselves, take care of it, then let it go. Some people worry about their appearance all day, and it detracts rather than adds. So take care of it and then let it go. Do the best you can and let that get the job done. Be conscious of ourselves, but not to the point of being self-conscious.
The third part to personal development is the mindstretching your mind, developing good thinking habits, good study habits, pursuing ideas, and trying to find ways to apply them to human behavior and the marketplace. All of that takes exercising the mind, which is what I call mind-stretch.
Your willingness to tackle subjects that are difficult and that most people have decided to let slide gives you an extraordinary edge in the marketplace. How can you master the high skills, the extraordinary skills that make you an unusual performer in the marketplace? It takes mind-stretch. Some people skip poetry and literature, the Bible, history and a lot of things that seem a little difficult to attack. But if you always back away from something that seems a little difficult at first, you leave yourself weak. You leave yourself unprepared in the marketplace. So dont be afraid to tackle the heavyweight stuff. It may be a lot easier than you think once you get into it and learn skill after skill.
Another part of mind-stretch is to learn the other side of the argument. Whether youre debating in the spiritual, political, physical or behavioral arena, dont be afraid of the other side of the argument. If youre strong mentally, you can handle it, and youve got to give people credit for their side of the argument. Even though you might not agree with them, you must agree that they came up with a good point.
Can you imagine what you can become if you commit toexpanding your mind? Can you imagine what skills youll develop, what insights youll have?
Part of all of this is developing what I call a personal development library. Mr. Shoaff got me started back when I was 25 years old. Since Id missed most of my college education, he said to me, I pass it along to you to be self-educated.
Education doesnt cease when you leave the university. Education is a lifetime process. You have to keep putting yourself through the paces to learn. Thats how you get into the higher numbers income. Thats how you get into the higher brackets enterprise. Thats how you become a more useful, productive, valuable citizen, making a contribution to family, community, country, enterprise. Work hard on developing these skills and be self-educated.
Mr. Shoaff said to me, Standard education gets you standard results. Why not go beyond the standard and the average and the acceptable and become the advantaged, the extraordinary or the extra-capable? Why not? I had decided back at age 18 or 19 just to get a job, work hard and do the best I could, and Mr. Shoaff said there is a lot more to life than that. Why dont you master some extraordinary skills? Why dont you move up to the higher level? So I didthat.
Now, some people are just into self-improvement, self-help, inspirational things, but you cant live on mental candy alone. You need more than that. Your library needs to be balanced like the pantry in your kitchen. You cant be strong just on the easy stuff. We should study history, biographies and autobiographies. Study people who have done unique things, both admirable and despicable. We need to be students of both.
All of the books that we will ever need to make us as rich, as healthy, as happy, as powerful, as sophisticated and as successful as we want to be have already been written. People from all walks of life, people with some of the most incredible life experiences, people that have gone from pennies to fortune and from failure to success have taken the time to write down their experiences so that we might share in their wealth of knowledge.
The habit of reading is a major stepping-stone in the development of a sound philosophical foundation. And in my opinion, it is one of the fundamentals required for the attainment of success and happiness.
Ive developed four steps to success in the quest for personal development.
Ideas are the life seeds of enterprise. A better life comes by the search for good ideas. Never cease your quest for knowledge. Finding ideas can be life changing. Business ideas, social ideas, personal ideasnothing is as powerful as an idea whose time has come. Be a searcher of good ideas: timely ideas, political ideas, family ideas, healthy ideas. Then, do what I do: Keep a journal. Keep a log of good ideas. Thats for the serious students. I used to take notes on pieces of paper and found out I couldnt go through them, couldnt catalog them, and I missed a lot of good stuff. So I learned to keep good ideas in a journal. Its an extension of your learning library.
Be a student of good plans. Plans are important because they give birth to ideas. Plans take ideas to the marketplace. Plans well executed bring ideas into the better life. Ideas without plans forever hang like an artists rendering on the wall. They never become reality. They never become substance. So be a student of good plans. Develop good, disciplined plans. Riches do not come by crossing your fingers and walking through the day hoping. Riches and wealth come from well-laid plans.
All of us have to learn to handle time. Its one of the challenges of life, learning to wait. Part of success is patiencethe passing of time. It takes time to build a career. It takes time to make changes. It takes time to learn, grow, change, develop and produce. It takes time to refine philosophy and activity. So give yourself time to learn, time to start some momentum, time to finally achieve.
Success is simply solving problems. There are all kinds of problems: business problems, family problems, personal problems, financial problems, emotional problems. Everybodys got a list of problems. Problem-solving is where enterprise comes from. Its how you build worth and wealth.
I once met Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon. He put it fairly simply. He said going to the moon and back was merely a matter of solving problems. Problem 1: how to get there. Problem 2: how to get back. Thats simple, right? He said make sure you dont leave until youve solved both problems. Well put. Sure, some things are complicated, but if you take it one piece at a timesolve the problems, put it back togetheryou cant believe the enterprise you can build, the life you can build, the skills you can build. Take it a piece at a time, master it, and then put it back together to solve it.
Learn to solve problems on paper. Youve got to commit some of your thoughts to paper. If you just deal out of your head all the time, its too easy to make errors. So take a piece of paper and just spend a little time outlining the problem. Instead of just thinking about it, take whats in your head, put it on paper and work it out. It helps you to focus. It helps you to zero in.
Now, when you state the problem to the best of your ability, you just add this one question: Is that all of it? You say, well, were not to dwell on problems. No, were not to dwell on them or live in them, but at least you have got to state them. Because you cant solve them until you clearly define them.
The answer to solving problems falls into three simple questions.
What can I do to solve the problem? What can I do? This is when you start developing what we call working papers. You say, well, heres potential answer number one. Thats an answer. Potential answer number two is a possibility. And number three, thats a possibility. You just start laying out possible solutions. Then you go back and analyze these solutions. Number three? Youve already come to the conclusion it would take too long. OK, number two? Too big a question mark. Number one is probably it. Your first inclination was right. Study that a little more and see if thats it.
The first step to solving problems is to write them down. The second step is to develop working papers on possible solutions. If that doesnt do it, here is the second question to ask: What can I read? Maybe theres a book on your problem. Somebody may have spent a lifetime trying to figure out this problem. You could receive the instant benefit of this persons advice if you take the time to look. Maybe its concisely written somewhere. You dont need to reinvent the wheel. If you do your homework, you just may find the solution.
If that still doesnt work, heres the third question: Who can I ask? Now, dont hesitate to ask, but let me give you a clue: Dont ask first. If you always just ask, you wont develop the skills you need for solving problems. Whats more valuable than the solution to a problem? The skills of solving problems. The answer to a problem is temporary, while problem-solving skills are permanent. So its not just answers we need, its skills we need. But if youve tried your best to figure it out yourself and youre still falling short, have your notes ready when you ask for help. You cant believe how willing people will be to help you if they know youre willing to help yourself.
Learn to concentrate on these five abilities in your personal development quest. They will help you skillfully attack the marketplace.
Develop the ability to absorb, the ability to soak in, take in, be like a sponge. Sitting in class or at the workplace, sometimes its easy to daydream, to be preoccupied, to be somewhere else.
I read a good article once in Readers Digest. The title was, Wherever You Are, Be There. I thought that was excellent. Be there. Concentration. Its also important in learning extra skills to really pay attention. Absorb, take in.
Most people are trying to get through the day. Ive got a better objective for you: Learn to get from the day. Not just get through it; get from it. Soak it up. Each day is a piece of the mosaic of your life. Dont waste any. Treat it with care. See how much you can get from a dayhow much advice, how much information, how much color, how much sight and sound to add to your worth and your wealth and your equity of mind.
Develop the skill to respond, the ability to be affected by what you see and hear and sense. Success is not just knowledge. Success is response to knowledge. Success is not just experience. Success is emotion created from experience. Its the emotional part that plays such a major part in our life and our future and our success.
Responding to life means to let sad things make you sad, to let happy things make you happy, to let puzzling things puzzle you. Let things that are difficult create difficulty for you. Respond.
Im asking you to let it affect you, let it do things to you. This builds your emotional bank.
Learn to reflect. Reflecting is an extra way of getting more value from what you know and what youve been through. Reflecting is going back over.
Take just a few minutes at the end of the day, find a place, if you can, to be alone, and just go back and think through the day. Where have you been? What did you see? What did you hear? What did you feel? If youll just relive it, Im telling you, it will add multiplied value to you. The day youve just been through will be more valuable for your future if you just go back through it.
Take a few hours at the end of the week and minutes at the end of the day, half a day at the end of the month and a weekend at the end of the year. Those are called times to reflect. Now, why go back over? Let me tell you why: to make the past more valuable. If youll take the time to review whats going on, review the decision-making, review the people youre with, review the actions youre taking, the decisions youre making, review all that stuff, go back through the feeling, you will make your life more valuable.
Now, why try to make your life valuable? Simple answer: to invest it in the future. We call that bright. We call that skillful, to make more out of your past, to have more value to invest in the future, instead of just trying to get through one more day, trying to get through one more week. Its to get more out of your past and invest it in your future.
Develop the ability to act, the ability to take action on your feelings and your knowledge. Disciplined action is what gives birth to ideas, enterprise and values. Without activity, ideas and dreams have no life.
Disciplined activity is the most demanding of arts to take you where you want to go. Now, sometimes it doesnt take much of a change of activity. Daily or weekly disciplines are those small changes of intelligent activity that take you in a better direction. Heres a good way to look at it: Ten years from now, you will surely arrive. The question is, where? Now is the time to fix the next 10 years. Fix a better course.
Now, to unsophisticated people, what they do during the day doesnt seem to matter. But to sophisticated people, it makes all the difference in the world. The books you read, the actions you take, the disciplines you engage in on a daily basis, those are the activities that are taking you somewhere, and all of us need to take a look at where our daily activities are taking us. The activity of learning, the activity of mind, health disciplines, wealth disciplines, culture disciplinesall values come from disciplines. Ideas put into disciplined activity create value.
Sharing is a unique human capacity. Sharing is a phenomenon, especially in the human experience. It seems when we share, we are the bigger and better for it.
It seems like if you share something and give it away, youd have less. But its a paradox. What you share creates more for you. Thats why we call it a paradox. Youre not diminished by sharing. Youre increased.
If you have a child and you love him dearly, and if a second child comes along, must you now cut your love in half? The answer is no. From some strange, mysterious source comes an increased capacity. From sharing with the first, capacity and an awareness and uniqueness are increased. So that is what I would ask you to do, become gifted in sharing.
There are many ways to share. One is by the gift of language. One of the most important studies for you is the study of communication, how to affect other people withwords.
Have something good to say. You cant speak what you dont know. Talking is like writing a check. You want to make sure youve got a verbal check that will cash when you get ready to talk. And heres the true power of communication: What you say is only the tip of the iceberg of what you know. Im sure weve all been around people who quickly told us more than they knew. Do your homework. Have something good to share. Have something good to say.
Here are some steps toward sharing with good communication.
Part of the gift of language is saying it uniquely. Winston Churchill had the unique ability to take the English language and send it into battle. The words he composed and the speeches he gave and the language and style gave such hope to the free world that soon the enemy was defeated. But part of it was the structure of the language, the skill, the gift of saying things well.
When you talk, youve just got to be interested enough to look and see how youre doing. Learn to read your audience. I had to learn that. At first, I was so absorbed in what I was saying that Im sure the audience could have left and I would have never known it. But I finally learned to look up to see whats going on here, over here, in the back. That was an experience for me, learning to read, to see, to study the reflection of whomever youre communicating with. Thats an art, a skill.
Words with strong feeling behind them change the meaning. Words can have power if theyre loaded with emotion and belief, courage, love, understanding, awareness, sympathy, concern, being touched by somebody. If you put more of that into what you say, itll have an incredible effect.
So share your knowledge. You cant believe how well you can help somebody just by recommending a book. Recommend a poem. Share a word, a phrase. You say, Hey, I just read this, and I think youll get a lot out of it. Somebody reads it and comes back and says, Hey, that had an impact on my life, and Im glad you shared that with me. Then you start getting compliments.
Its an incredible feeling when people tell you, What you said made a difference for me. But you dont have to lecture in front of thousands of people to get that same feedback. All you have to do is recommend a book or share an idea. Somebody comes back and says, That book got me started, or, The things you told me at breakfast that morning, wow, Ive been thinking about that and Im making some changes. You can experience this incredible pleasure that comes from sharing ideas.
Remember, what you pour out creates a capacity for more. So pour out what you know. Pour out what you feel. Let go in a sharing way the good things that have come your way. Thats a major part of the skill in the marketplace of developing success, wealth andvalue.
So, develop skills that make you attractive to the marketplace. Develop the temperament and the attitude that make you attractive to the business world, the attitude and the temperament that make you a splendid husband, wife, father, mother, son, daughter, friend, co-worker, business partner. Because, heres whats important: Its not what you get that makes you valuable, its what you become that makes you valuable.
One last phrase to consider in the quest for personal development: Promise is on the other side of price. For the promise, you must always pay the price. If you want the glory of success, the glory of a unique family, the glory and the recognition of a unique enterprise, the glory of a job well done, then youve got to pay up front. And the discipline of developing skills for the marketplace is part of the pay. But once you get a taste of value, you dont mind paying the discipline. I wish for you all these good things that come from paying the price.

Establishing aims and goals for what you want to achieve, where you would like to go in the short term or long term, can improve your personal development.
After studying just about everything that has been written or said about personal development and success, I have come to the conclusion that the root of both is your level of self-confidence.
Self-confidence is the critical factor in everything you accomplish because, with the appropriate amount, you will try almost anything.
This article will cover more than just a personal development definition, but the personal skills needed for development and improvement.
Many people underachieve in their careers because they do not realize the areas of personal development that can help achieve mastery in any field.
There is no substitute for hard work. If you set a goal, make a plan, and work on it every day, you will see personal development and progress within your career.
There are no limits except for the limits you place on yourself with your thinking.
Commit yourself to lifelong learning. Even if you are at the top of your field, there is always something to learn.
You will become unstoppable and you will see your entire future open up in front of you if you live a goal and growth-oriented life.
Personal Development is the process of improving oneself through conscious habits and activities.
It is the pursuit of personal growth to enhance the quality of life and to achieve ones dreams and aspirations.
Focusing on a few personal development categories such as personal skills, personal growth, and personal power can create habits for personal improvement.
Personal growth is founded on education and skill. Our society tends to reward those who are above average.
Those who know more than the average are typically paid more than the average.
Through education and experience, you increase your skill level and your ability to succeed in your field.
There are 7 main categories of personal development that most people focus on:
Are you trying to grow your skills in the workplace? The highest paid, top individuals in their field are the ones that focus on growing their personal skills.
These skills can be ones you were born with as well as skills gained through deliberate practice.
Knowing what areas you excel in and which need development are very useful in your personal and professional life.
Personal growth is bettering yourself, stepping out of your comfort zone, focusing on becoming a better version of yourself.
Humans and the human mind is constantly evolving and never stops. Your job is to always be a better version of yourself than you were yesterday.
Personal power is supported by your contacts and money. Developing an ever-widening circle of contacts increases the number of open doors for you.
Having people with like-minded goals and are willing to help you can directly affect how successful you are.
Money in the bank provides freedom and the ability to take full advantage of certain opportunities when they present themselves.
Personal improvement stems from good work habits and having a positive mental attitude. Thinking before you act is critical to developing good work habits.
Set priorities on a list and consider the likely consequences before beginning. Maintaining a positive mental attitude will reduce the amount of time that it takes you to achieve your goal.
Promoting a positive image and a creativity within your daily life can speed up the time it takes to achieve your goals and increase your personal empowerment.
Creativity thinking means continually looking for faster, better, easier, and cheaper ways to get the job done.
It is very important to be conscious of areas in which you are naturally gifted as well analyze areas in which you need improvement.
Being truthful about where you currently stand is the first step to moving forward. You should be constantly evaluating where you stand in relation to achieving your goals and ambitions.
Ambition goes to waste when there are no clear goals in sight. Developing short term and long term goals are a pivotal step.
Having a set plan will help you to have a clear understanding of which strategies are necessary in order to reach your desired destination.
There are several aspects of personal development disciplines that will make achieving success possible if developed correctly.
A few of these disciplines include goal setting, planning and organizing, and concentrating on your high-value activities.
Goal setting can be done in the early morning and take only a few minutes of your day.
It can be as simple as purchasing a spiral notebook and writing out your ten goals at the beginning of each day. This will program them deep into your subconscious mind.
Planning and organizing at the end of the day can help you better prepare for the coming day.
When you plan out your day, putting it down on paper, you can begin to visualize your important tasks and make sure you are working to complete them throughout the day.
Concentrating on your high-value activities will contribute to your success as much as any other discipline you can develop.
Promoting the highest value activities will make a powerful difference in how quickly you achieve them.
Most of the time, what you think about is what you become. Information, ideas, impressions, all add up to a sum total and feed into your mind.
From the moment you wake until the moment you close your eyes at the end of the day. Everything you experience plays a factor, however, some things make a bigger impression than others.
Developing personal development goals for work can make the difference between success and failure.
Some personal development goals for work examples include the Golden Hour and the 21-Day Mental Diet.
The Golden Hour Rule steers the trajectory of your day.
Beginning your day early and by investing your first hour in yourself will make a tremendous difference in the way you feel and you will begin to see positive results in your day.
You will begin to see yourself in a more positive light and begin to improve on your personal development.
The 21-day Mental Diet means waking up early and investing at least the first two hours of your day in yourself.
With this extra time, lay out clear goals you can work to achieve in the workplace. This can be improving your productivity and efficiency to help you get that promotion or earn a raise.
Your goals may also include education. You need to learn more to earn more.
Try setting a goal to read something educational, motivational or inspirational every day before you go to work.
Personal development goals for employees are very important because without a goal or vision, then the attention is not being spent on what is most critical.
A few key personal development goals for employee examples for employees are selecting areas of focus, set schedule, and monitoring progress.
Leadership development goals are similar, however, involves you identifying development needs, learning opportunities, and then formulating a plan of action.
Recording your outcomes and evaluating areas that need more structure.
The objectives of personal development are continuous personal growth, increased potential for success, and capitalizing on potential opportunities.
You can practice your personal development skills by setting aside time for the important people in your life, performing action exercises that force you to perform at the highest level and studying growth performances help ensure you continue to climb the ladder of success.
Personal development courses, coaches, and programs can also help you hit your goals.

A Personal development cycle is a continuous cycle that is composed of three major components curiosity, awareness, and truth.
Each component aspect feeds into next in a continuous loop.
As we age, we tend to get set in our routine and lose the curiosity we had as children. You should never become so compliant that you lose your hunger to learn and improve.
Ignorance is not always bliss. Becoming aware of our old and bad habits is the only way to actually instrument positive change.
It is important to develop a sense of personal awareness to increase your knowledge and understanding of where our strengths and weaknesses lie.
Embrace your truth. The world is yours for the taking, but first, there is some self-growth that needs to occur.
By learning and accepting what your strengths and weaknesses are, you can capitalize on the strengths and continuously work to improve the areas of weakness.
Forming a personal development planning checklist is the best way to monitor yourself and make sure you are on track to accomplish your end goals.
Start by writing out your goals with as much detail as possible. Then write down your strengths and weaknesses.
Next, write down a list of resources that you have available to you that may help in your personal development.
This list can include courses and workshops, books and websites, or networking. Do not be afraid to ask others for help.
You can network by reaching out to friends and family, colleagues, or even by joining a group that is devoted to the areas you would like to focus on.
Learning from a mentor is the best way to gain invaluable experience and life skills.
Personal Development does not have to be a daunting task. If you follow this personal development plan guide, you will uncover key ways of improving yourself without worry and stress.
However, before you can set up a plan, you need to do some self-reflecting and answer personal goal questions.
A few questions you should develop before laying out a specific plan of action are:
After answering those questions, you can create a personal plan that contains a few key components.
The key components you should focus on are having a specific outcome that you are constantly working towards, planning and paving a path towards achieving it, being mindful of the obstacles, and understanding the bigger motivation behind your actions.
When developing a personal development plan for work, you should focus on SMART goals. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.
Following this easy to remember acronym, you can improve both your personal and professional life.
In order to make progress that you can see and track, you need to document a detailed plan of action.

Start-up of the day: Learned.io – a personal development platform for employees – Innovation Origins
Posted: at 2:43 pm
The corona crisis has given tremendous momentum to the development of start-ups focusing on online education and homeworking. This week Innovation Origins will therefore pay extra attention to start-ups in this edtech sector.
In 2018, the three brothers Rick, Paul, and Joost Kuijf from Amersfoort in The Netherlands founded their company Learned.io, which provides a platform for companies to continuously coach and assess their employees. Employees are able to develop their skills and personal conduct while their managers can offer them feedback at any time.
We started this company as brothers and all three of us felt frustrated by the fact that our previous employers dealt with employee development in a rather traditional way. Current performance review processes hardly shed any light on opportunities for advancement. Nor doe they provide managers with a framework to nurture the development of their employees on a day-to-day basis. Instead, the tools in place are inadequate because they dont help companies to modernize their performance review cycle. Nor do they tailor educational resources such as training to each job or to the stage of an individuals career and ambitions.
The Learned Talent Management platform helps organizations maintain the levels of productivity and engagement of their employees. Wherever they happen to be. The new way of working, which is now more widespread in other words working remotely calls for a different approach to talent management. We help organizations revamp and digitalize their talent management to keep a grip on their employees.
We have innovated traditional performance review processes by mapping out employees skillsets. In doing so, we match these skillsets with in-house career opportunities in order to encourage in-house career mobility. Skillset gaps are bridged by tailor-made suggestions for training either within the company or externally. We also help managers hold constructive conversations with employees about their performance, development, and career opportunities. That makes employees more productive and engaged.
We had to translate our problems and market-related requirements into a software solution. Another factor that complicated this was that all three of us are not really IT specialists. So in order to do this, we had to attract investors, put together a tech team and make a thorough inventory of clients needs. We then applied all of that to the platform. It was a dynamic, stressful but all in all a very enjoyable process.
We strongly believe in the development of personal skills. These vary a lot for a commercial position compared to an IT role. They must line up with each job description. Therefore, this needed to be clearly defined.
Being able to raise funding during two rounds as well as sign a contract with the very first two corporations, Perry Sport and Young Capital. The fact that we now have these companies as our clients is a tremendous step forward.
Everything is up in the air for now because of the corona crisis. If we still have to stay inside for another month, we can go back to the drawing board and revise the business plan. Everything will look different in that case. In order to help companies emerge stronger from this difficult time, we have come up with a 72-hour challenge in collaboration with Compagnon, an HR service provider. As such, we offer companies the opportunity to share their HR and talent management issues with us. We can then get back to them within 72 hours with free advice as well as propose solutions to their problems.
By then we hope to be operating internationally. We went to the CES tech fair in Las Vegas last January. We made several business contacts there. Although ongoing talks with various companies have been put on hold for now due to the corona crisis. The ultimate goal is to establish an international presence and we want to open offices in the United States, the UK and other countries.

7 tips on lockdown career advancement for employees and managers – The Next Web

It can be hard to think about career progression when youre working from home and worrying about job security due to, you know, a global pandemic.
And even though its understandable that you might want to focus on short term goals, theres absolutely no harm in thinking further ahead and trying to figure out what your next career move could or should be.
The biggest challenges about working remotely are obviously reduced contact time with managers and perhaps even less visibility over an your work but not all is lost.
[Read:Heres why if you build it, they will come is shitty advice]
While 1:1s and check-ins should still be happening, the water-cooler chats and body language signals that might usually help you stay close to your manager will be missing. Its essential that managers double down on regular scheduled catch-ups with their teams to find out how theyre doing, Jonny Burch, the founder of Progression, a service that helps makers grow at work, tells Growth Quarters.
Additionally, Burch says that work that doesnt have a clear tangible output such as admin, for example is much harder to see.
If your job, or natural style, involves less visible communication of decisions or work, it may be that your work just isnt noticed so much, whereas others who over-communicate visually may experience the opposite effect, he notes.
Given the current circumstances, Burch has the following advice for employees thinking about their next career moves:
Burch also shared his top tips for managers and team leads:
Times may be tough right now but its important not to lose sight of what opportunities lie ahead. So, start thinking about what you want and what you have to do to get it.

LAKE WORTH, FL, May 20, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- From the time she was a young girl sitting in a small schoolhouse in Jamaica to becoming the Assistant Superintendent of one the Americas largest school districts, Dr. Janice Scott Cover never doubted her love for children, their well-being or education. Teachers are Burdened: Proven Tips to Lighten the Load and Win by Cover is an insightful tool for teachers, intended to facilitate lessons in classroom management and instruction, work-life balance, confidence in the classroom, and more. By inserting her life experiences into the narrative, Cover is able to highlight important lessons she learned in times of uncertainty and struggle throughout her 40-year career in education.
Like most young children in rural Jamaica, Cover loved to play house with dolls and delighted in preparing make-belief meals just like her mother. For Janice, the dolls had a dual role; her offspring during playtime but more significantly her compliant students when she transitioned into a no-nonsense teacher. Today, her love for teaching remains, but along with it comes a lifetime of lessons and insight on how to be a strong educator.
I wrote this book to teach what I have been learning and to assure my fellow educators that they too can achieve personal and professional success for themselves and students in their charge that will inevitably leave an eternal impact, Cover said.
This is an inspiring book for anyone, whether you are a schoolteacher or a teacher of life. A must read from a phenomenal woman, a reviewer wrote about the book.
Readers will enjoy Teachers are Burdened as it provides a unique approach to the teacher-community relationship that has the potential to move schools in a positive direction and benefits students, teachers, families and entire communities along the way. Covers book can also be used as a resource for personal development and guidance on navigating life outside of the classroom. Topics like financial guidance, including tips on continuing ones own education and keeping their family afloat financially on a teachers salary, as well as creating clear boundaries with their partner about their schedule are also highlighted in the novel.
