Thesys Awards "Innovation Journalists" and Offers Free Grant-Writing Guidance at ISTE Conference This Month
Posted: at 7:14 pm
ANAHEIM, CA--(Marketwire -06/14/12)- Thesys International, an education technology business that supports schools with a hybrid online/classroom approach to education, will highlight its commitment to innovation at the ISTE Conference (http://www.isteconference.org/2012/) in San Diego this month with an "Innovation Journalist" promotion and an iPad giveaway. In addition to its exhibit at Booth #5725, Thesys will distribute Flip video cameras to attendees to document the most innovative ideas they can find at the conference. The winning "journalist" will receive an Apple 32GB iPad. Attendees are also invited to "Permission Granted," where they can meet one-on-one with a professional educational grant-writing expert for individual guidance.
Thesys' idea is to empower conference attendees to explore, investigate and discover the best innovations and share them with others. These Thesys "news hawks" will be outfitted with a Thesys media badge and video camera to document their two-hour adventures. When they return to Booth 5725, Thesys will turn the cameras back on the attendees, interviewing them about what they've discovered about blended learning, which innovations could be incorporated into blended learning, which innovations they like best and what resonated most with them about the conference.
Winners will be selected by Thesys International and the Fairmont Education Group marketing staff. Semifinalists will be announced July 3, 2012, and the winner of the iPad will be announced on July 9, 2012.
Thesys will also produce a "Permission Granted" program in which a professional educational grant specialist will spend a day at Thesys' booth discussing grants that are currently available to educators. Attendees can book free appointments, held Monday between 12-4 p.m., to evaluate what grants best fit their needs, gather tips on securing grants, and to get started with the grant-writing process. Appointments are limited; attendees are encouraged to set their one-on-one appointment with Thesys' grant specialist in advance by contacting Paul Rideau at 714-234-2721.
The grants and pilot programs secured at the conference through "Permission Granted" will be documented on the Thesys blog to help others learn from the educational grant process. The blog will also highlight the five most important keys to securing an educational grant.

Manchester City Gives Enclosed Rooftop Soccer Field to New York City Public School (Video)
Posted: at 5:20 am
Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour isn't just spending his money on players who deliver trophies. He's also spreading the club's goodwill around the world.
On June 6, an enclosed rooftop soccer field was unveiled at Public School (P.S.) 72 Lexington Academy in the New York City neighborhood of East Harlem. The facility was a present from Manchester City and the embassy of the United Arab Emirates, Sport 360 reports.
"The pitch was a gift ... as part of an initiative set up between the embassy and City when the Premier League champion first toured the United States in the 2010 summer," the report reads.
"The facility, which is the first of its kind in Manhattan ... offers year-round award-winning coaching and education programs from Manchester City."
Both Lexington Academy students and 600 other local kids will have exclusive access to the field. The synthetic surface was originally laid on the school's roof in 2010, but the City and the U.A.E. paid over $250,000 (164,000) to fund the enclosure project.
Although there are a few exceptions, kids who grow up in American cities have little exposure to soccer. This is partly because grass (or turf) fields are in short supply in urban areas. Back in 2010, City defender Pablo Zabaleta told the Guardian these types of facilities can help change that dynamic of the sport in America.
"It's not just about coming to the US, training, playing some games then leaving," Zabaleta said. "We want to do something different and to leave a legacy here. It shows the club is not just about spending big money on players, but important projects like this.
"From my own experience in Argentina, the thought of a poor area getting a facility like this is fantastic. I grew up in a small city away from Buenos Aires but the best example in Argentina would be Carlos Tevez, who was born in a really poor area with a reputation for criminals and trouble. Every time he goes back he takes shirts and football equipment to the local people. So many players from Argentina and Brazil come from areas like this and all they need is an opportunity. This will help us produce the Tevezs and Robinhos of the future."
The facility in "Spanish" Harlem will give plenty of kids a chance to play the game, and it could even help unearth a gem of a player in New York City. In a time when budget cuts are eliminating gym and other athletic programs from public education, neighborhood kids will have a place to excercise and live a healthier lifestyle. This is a much bigger legacy than what Zabaleta talked about.
U.A.E. ambassador to the U.S. Yousef Al Otaiba and City's U.S. representative Gary Hopkins discuss the Lexington Academy afacility in the video below.

Yogi Blair: Blair Bavin gets yoga instruction from Trudy Hennessy at the Spring Creek Class
A Springlands woman is answering the call of wives and girlfriends in Marlborough by encouraging their men to get off the couch and on to a yoga mat.
Trudy Hennessy, of The Yoga Room, is starting a men-only yoga class after receiving phone calls from women complaining about their partners' bad backs and general inflexibility.
The five-week course, at Spring Creek Community Centre in Ferry Rd, starts on Wednesday, June 27.
Ms Hennessy said each session was a full-body, cardiovascular workout.
There were lots of ways to practise yoga, she said.
"Each personal teacher brings a different style to yoga and I bring an energetic style. People are blown away. It's pretty challenging and people are overwhelmed by the results. Especially when they take it into the functional world and apply it to their sporting activities like running or cycling."
People had faster rates of recovery and increased endurance levels, she said.

As technology advances new fitness gear is available for our yoga workouts. Nothing is wrong with performing yoga in regular attire on a customary mat, but for those who want to take their workout to the next level, high tech fitness gear is a great addition. High tech fitness gear can offer numerous benefits for your yoga workout, and I will name the top four.
