For Ron Reese, a dairy farmer in western Centre County, a tour of the farm on a warm fall day includes a short history lesson.

After World War II, the family bought stalls for dairy cows from Sears and Roebuck, and started shipping whole milk.

In 1946, Sears and Roebuck was the Amazon of the world, Reese said.

The property where Reese and his wife, Jane, live is about 650 acres. That includes about 400 acres thats farmed, along with picturesque rolling hillsides and forested land.

As a farmer, Reese says climate change affects him only on the margins like more growing days in the summer.

I think climate change exists, he said. The real question is, what are the impacts and what should we do about it.

Reese, who has held local office and made political runs, thinks the country can adapt if it needs to.

Look at Holland. Theyve adapted and pushed the North Sea back so that they can have a whole society.

But in the meantime, he says, government should focus on cutting unneeded regulations and spending.

Climate change and weather patterns may not be the issues getting the most attention in this years election. But, for farmers, theyre always at the front. While politicians and political hopefuls say they want to listen to farmers and support them, their views on climate change vary.

Lucie Case is with Patchwork Farm and Greenhouse, an organic produce farm in Aaronsburg, Centre County. She was working at the stand at one of the regions farmers markets, selling everything from carrots to squash.

Like other farms, they dealt with a lack of rain this summer. Case said you cant blame a specific weather event on climate change but its part of the picture.

Lots of rain, this year no rain, weird winters, weird frosts, she said, describing what she and other farmers experience. Climate change has a big impact on farming, and some people dont always see that.

Theyre trying to do their part and make changes like having solar panels installed to cut the electric use in their greenhouses.

She thinks politicians should listen.

I think they need to go out to speak to farmers and producers and find out ways they can help ensure farming can continue, she said.

Juniata County and part of Centre County are in the sprawling 12th Congressional District. It stretches north to the New York border. Its next to the 15th, which covers much of northcentral Pennsylvania. South of them is the 13th district.

The Republican incumbents in those seats do have Democratic challengers in this years election. But the districts lean heavily Republican.

In the 15th, Republican incumbent Glenn Thompson is facing Democratic challenger Robert Williams. In the 12th, Republican incumbent Fred Keller is facing Democrat Lee Griffin. In the 13th, incumbent John Joyce is being challenged by Democrat Todd Rowley.

The three Democrats say the government should take action to address climate change, though their specific ideas vary. Griffin favors setting binding targets for controlling carbon emissions.

Thats the target and the measurable thing that we need to do is get our carbon down to neutral, he said. Ideally we could go negative.

Joyce did not respond to a request for an interview. Thompson and Keller both support what they call an all of the above energy strategy. That means, in part, they dont support policies designed to dramatically cut carbon emissions something scientists say has to happen to avoid the worst effects of climate change.

On the ag side, Thompson points to improving internet connectivity, which helps farmers make use of precision agriculture, and supporting research at Penn State and other land-grant institutions.

We need to continue to invest in the science as it comes to food supply and agriculture, he said.

Hannah Smith-Brubaker runs Village Acres Farm with her family in Juniata County. They primarily farm organic produce, along with some pasture livestock, sheep for fiber and laying hens for eggs.Shes also executive director of Pasa Sustainable Agriculture.

Smith-Brubaker says people may think just of heat when talking about climate change. But, variability and unpredictability are key.

Two summers ago we had just a deluge of rain, she said. We had 15 inches of rain in three days after we had just planted out our fall crops and lost them all. And then this year, we had a very long drought. So long that many of our crops that we typically would be able to harvest well into September were really done at the end of the August.

She said farmers are great stewards of the land and could help mitigate the effects of climate change.

We have some time to do things like sequester carbon through agriculture, but if our leadership isnt overtly listening to the science and talking in ways acknowledging our role in climate change, its pretty hard to get people who might be on the fence about that to really engage in a way thats going to help things shift, she said.

Taking concrete steps to help farmers succeed is also what Andy Bater would like to see from government. Bater is president of the Centre County Farm Bureau. He raises switchgrass for sustainable strawberry growers, and they have forestry projects to provide habitat for endangered birds.

He has a list of things government could support to help make farming sustainable economically and environmentally. He starts with precision agriculture including practices like targeted fertilizing.

That puts dollars in the farmers pocket, because hes not applying fertilizer where its not needed, but it also helps to minimize any environmental impact, because theres no way for that fertilizer to be wasted or washed away if its used by the plant, Bater says.

Soil health, broadband access and research on crops that are more resistant to extreme weather are other priorities.

Also on the list: Education on the difference between climate and weather.

Id love to try to depoliticize the climate discussions in general, Bater says. If we could get to a point where its handled at a bipartisan level or across the board, I think wed be better off.

Covid-19 numbers rise at Cranswick meat plant in Norfolk

Positive cases of Covid-19 at UK meat processor Cranswick's plant in Watton, in the eastern English county of Norfolk, have risen to 175, according to Norfolk County Council (NCC).

NCC held a press conference yesterday (29 October) where officials said the pace of infections had picked up in the county over the past week to 89 per 100,000 from 59/100,000, with the rise "closely" connected to the Cranswick Country Foods' plant in Watton, mainly in its butchery operations.

While 175 staff had tested positive, another 185 had negative results, the NCC said, with those infected self-isolating. A mobile test unit was set up at the Cranswick site on Monday. The virus at the plant has escalated from the initial four cases reported earlier in October, the NCC confirmed.

Kellogg ups guidance again after Covid, emerging markets boost sales

Kellogg lifted its forecasts for full-year sales and earnings today (29 October) after reporting a near-5% rise in underlying net sales in its third quarter.

The US-based cereal and snacks giant has seen Covid-19 continue to fuel its retail sales, while the Pringles maker also pointed to "strong growth" in emerging markets in the third quarter.

France to enter second national lockdown

PresidentEmmanuel Macron has announced a second national lockdown in France, starting tomorrow (30 October).

Only schools and businesses deemed to be selling essential goods, like supermarkets and pharmacies, will stay open.

Cafes, restaurants and other shops will shut down.

"I know the weariness and this feeling of a day with no end that is overcoming all of us," Macron said in a national address. "We must stick together and remain united, and not give in to the poison of division."

Citizens will only be allowed to leave home for essential work or medical reasons andwould need to fill in a form to justify leaving their placeof residence. They are allowed to exercise for one hour a day.

The measures will last initially until 1 December.

"We have been overwhelmed by the rapid acceleration of Covid-19," Macron said. "The virus is circulating at a speed that not even the most pessimistic forecasts had anticipated."

Data from Johns Hopkins University show France has had 1.28m cases of the novel coronavirus, with 35,823reported to have died.

Germany set for "lockdown light"

Angela Merkel and leaders of Germany's 16 federal states have agreed to a partial lockdown starting on Monday (2 November).

Restaurants and bars will close, although they can still offer takeaway services.

Entertainment venues such as theatres and cinemas will be shut. Gyms will also close.

Shops are to remain open, with a regulation stipulating only one customer allowed per 10 square metres (or 108 feet).

Speaking at a press conference, Merkel said Germany was "in a very serious situation", adding:"We must act, and now, to avoid an acute national health emergency."

Data from Johns Hopkins University shows Germany has had486,972 confirmed Covid-19cases, with 10,281 reported to have died.

Merkel 'wants to close restaurants'

Reuters has reported today (28 October) Angela Merkel is looking for Germany's state premiers to agree to a move to shut all restaurants in the country from 4 November.

The news agency says it has seen a draft resolution that would close all bars, cinemas, gyms and concert halls, among other venues.

The German Chancellor is said to be set to hold a conference call with state leaders later today.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, Germany has had 463,555 confirmed cases of Covid-19. Some 10,177 citizens have died.

Reuters has also reported Germany's Economy Minister, Peter Altmaier, as saying the country was likely to reach 20,000 cases a day by the end of the week.

Nestle's confectionery plant in Newcastle hit by Covid-19 infections

Nestl said its plant in Fawdon in the north-eastern city of Newcastle has recorded 29 positive cases of Covid-19 among the workforce.

The cases were confirmed from the 19-26 of October, a Nestl spokesperson said, adding: "If a case is confirmed, we undertake rigorous contact tracing to ensure we can isolate any other individuals who may have been in close contact in the workplace.

"We have also introduced the additional measure of the mandatory wearing of disposable masks across the factory. Keeping people safe remains our top priority."

The factory manufactures a range of confectionery products, including Rowntree's Fruit Pastilles, Rolo, Munchies and Toffee Crisp.

The spokesperson continued: "We are working closely with authorities and continue to follow all advice to reduce the risk of infection. Our factories already have strict hygiene measures in place and we have issued extra guidance and implemented additional measures across all of our sites since the very beginning of the pandemic."

Burton's Biscuit Co. confirms four Covid-19 cases at Edinburgh factory

Burton's Biscuit Co.has confirmed four workers at its factory in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh have tested positive for coronavirus, although the plant is operating normally.

The facility produces a range of shortbreads and the Burton's snack and biscuit brands Fish 'n' Chips and Viscount, a spokesperson for the company told just-food.

"The health, safety and well-being of our colleagues remains our number one priority. We continue to work closely with local health authorities to ensure that the most stringent hygiene and social-distancing measures are in place," the spokesperson said. "In addition, we continue to follow all guidance and advice provided by theGovernment.

"The Health Protection Team has undertaken a risk assessment and confirmed they are satisfied with the appropriateness of the measures taken by the company."

Update on Covid-19 cases at Cranswick site

Local health officials in the eastern English county of Norfolk have issued an update on the number of positive Covid-19 tests at a plant run by UK meat giant Cranswick.

Describing the incidence of cases at the pork-productsfactory in Watton as a"significant outbreak", Norfolk County Council director of public health Dr Louise Smith said testing of staff at the site had "identified about 140 positive cases out of around 300 tested so far".

She added: "The analysis of swabs continues and the remaining staff on site are being tested today and tomorrow."

A spokesperson for Cranswick, one of the UK's largest suppliers of pork and poultry products, said its employees diagnosed with the virus were "tested in line with the advice given to us by PHE [government agency Public Health England]and , are all asymptomatic and currently self-isolating".

Tests at the site are ongoing and the spokesperson said Cranswick was "continuing to work co-operatively" with local and government health officials "to agree the next steps but envisage[s]there will be disruption to the full operation of the plant in the short term".

Cranswick has pork-products plants in Eye in eastern England, further north in Preston, near Hull, and in Ballymena in Northern Ireland.

In August, Cranswicktemporarily closed the Ballymena facility after cases of Covid-19 among staff.

In May, it was reportedthree workers at Cranswick's plant in Wombwell in south Yorkshire in northern England died after contracting the virus.

Nestlsets out capex plans in India

The Indian arm of the world's largest food maker has outlined plans to invest in manufacturing.

NestlIndia, which is listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange, said it's to spend INR26bn (US$351.6m) over the next "three to four years" on projects that "augment our existing manufacturing capacities", as well as on the construction of a new factory in Gujarat. That move, whch will see Nestlbuild a plant to make Maggi products, was announced last year.

Approached for just-food for more detail on the plans and on the scale of the investment compared to previous periods, NestlIndia declined to comment, pointing to its status as a listed company.

The disclosure came as NestlIndia reported a 10.2% rise in third-quarter sales to INR35.25bn. The business pointed to "double-digit" growth for brands including Maggi noodles and KitKat chocolate.

NestlIndia said demand in the country's "out-of-home channel improved through the quarter but continues to be impacted by Covid".

Biofach trade show to go virtual

One of Europe's largest annual trade events focusing on organic food is to be held virtually in 2021.

Biofach, put together by Germany-based exhibition company NrnbergMesse and held alongside personal-care expo Vivaness, convenes every February and this year's show took place as usual before Covid-19 struck Europe.

"The numerous conversations and in-depth dialogue we have had in recent weeks and months have made one thing clear to us. Within the organic food and natural and organic cosmetics sector the desire for interaction, networking and knowledge transfer with experts, and to discover trends and innovations, remains huge and unabated, especially in these exceptional times, Petra Wolf, member of the NrnbergMesse management board, said.

"I very much regret that the physical trade fair cannot take place and stress that this decision was an extremely difficult one for all of us. However, before we all meet again on site in Nuremberg in 2022, the Biofach / Vivaness eSpecial will offer an ideal platform for professional dialogue in 2021."

The virtual event will take place between 17 and 19 February next year.

Poland announces curbs on restaurants

The whole of Poland went into a "red zone" of restrictions on Saturday, including the partial closure of restaurants.

Delivery and takeaway will still be allowed but dine-in has been banned under measures that stop just short of a national lockdown.

The announcement was made on Friday, with Poland's government confirming the following day President Andrzej Duda had tested positive for Covid-19.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, Poland has had 263,929 confirmed cases of the virus. Some 4,483 citizens have died.

South Africa's Libstar eyes cost improvements

The South African FMCG group has started "cost rationalisation" projects across the business in a bid to make savings but, the company insisted, up capacity and improve service for customers.

The company said "several" initiatives were underway, including at its Lancewood dairy arm and at its Dickon Hall Foods unit, which co-manufactures for food majors including Nestl and Unilever.

"Several cost-rationalisation projects are underway throughout the Group, most notably within the Dickon Hall Foods, Lancewood and Libstar HPC [home and personal care] divisions. These projects are expected to start yielding meaningful benefits from H1 2021." Libstar said alongside the publication of a third-quarter financial update.

Approached by just-food for more detail, including on the possible impact on products and jobs, Libstar said the projects are "all aimed at the improvement of the group's operating efficiencies and service levels to customers".

It added: "At Lancewood, we have invested in hard-cheese packaging upgrades to improve manufacturing efficiencies and service levels. Cost-rationalisation efforts are underway at Dickon Hall Foods. These projects have been aimed at improving production efficiencies and volume throughputs."

In the nine months to 2 October, Libstar's revenue increased 6.2% after a 14.4% rise in its third quarter.

"Whilst the group has been able to protect gross profit margins, general and administrative expenses for the year ended 31 December 2020 are likely to remain significantly higher relative to the prior year," Libstar said, pointing to Covid-19-related expenses and the fact the company is lapping "a lower comparative base" in the shape of the fourth quarter of 2019.

How the cold weather affects our workout habits and motivation – Stylist Magazine

Exercise has been something of a godsend this year. With coronavirus restrictions having limited the places we can go and the people we can see, many turned to daily walks, home workouts and, more recently, to their recently reopened gymsto fill their time and channel their energy.

But now the clocks have gone back, meaning shorter days and darker evenings, and there is a definite chill in the air. For a lot of people, this seasonal transition very often marks a change in motivation, with warm cosy living rooms being far preferable to a rainy run or a venture out to the gym.

Many of us find that in the colder, wetter months, our motivation to do many things is negatively impacted, including exercise, explains fitness trainer Dr Folusha Oluwajana. But there are a variety of benefits to staying on top of your workout routine when the weather takes a turn, and a number of things you can do to keep yourself going as winter approaches.

Its pretty well-documented that cold weather and darker days can affect your mood. In fact, according to research conducted by The Weather Channel and YouGov, almost a third of people in the UK suffer from a degree of Seasonal Affective Disorder, which can cause low mood, poor sleep and problems concentrating, among other things. If youre feeling down, says Dr Oluwajana, getting up to work out may feel like a mental challenge.

In addition to the mental blocks you may experience as the seasons change, the colder weather also has an effect on our bodies. According to Dr Sarah Davies from Panacea Health, our muscles and tendons often tighten up in the cold, meaning that we are likely to feel joint pains more acutely as a result, which can be disincentivising to being physically active.

Its true that exercise outside is usually not as fun if its cold and raining, says Dr Oluwajana. But regardless, it does have some unique benefits, including helping you to fight off colds, as regular exercise contributes to a healthy immune system. Given that viruses like the common cold are more prevalent in winter, keeping up your exercise routine will help you increase your chances of combating and recovering from them when they hit during the colder months.

In addition to aiding your physical health, exercise during the winter also benefits your mental health. Working out gives you a rush of endorphins, which are neurochemicals that your body produces to minimise pain and maximise enjoyment. Dr Oluwajana explains that endorphins are also known as the happy hormone, and that they are great for giving you a natural lift when youre feeling low. Getting up and exercising in the winter could, therefore, be just the thing you need to stave off your seasonal low mood.

Its one thing to know that exercising in the colder weather is a good thing, and another to actually want to do it. Thankfully, though, there are things you can do to keep yourself motivated. Dr Oluwajana recommends adjusting your workout schedule to ensure you stick to it. She suggests, for example, rescheduling your run to lunchtime if you dont want to run during the dark mornings, or switching to home workouts if getting to the gym is unappealing.

Keeping warm should also be a top priority which Dr Oluwajana says comes with the added bonus that getting yourself some new, warm workout gear could help motivate you to exercise outside during winter. There are specific exercises you can do, too, that are particularly good at keeping your body temperature up. As Dr Davies explains, exercising the large muscle groups in the legs with squats, lunges and deadlifts will keep you warm during the winter months.

Whether theyre Gen Z voters, new citizens or those who want to finally express their civic duty, the Asian Journal spoke to several Filipino American voters about what issues motivated them to participate for the first time.

Voting method: Mail-in ballot and dropped off at Brooklyn Board of Elections

On speaking out: Trumps incompetence, racism and treatment of women and people of color are the main reasons for my determination to speak out through my vote. This governments COVID-19 response (or lack thereof) and Trumps attacks on scientists and Dr. Fauci are some of the most disturbing issues that came up when the pandemic started. I believe Biden/Harris align most with my values.

On motivating others: I convinced a friend to register to vote a few months ago and sent her a link that was easy to follow so she can do so. I also donated to a few campaigns in swing states like SC, AZ, KY. I called a close friend in AZ to ask if shes voting. She said yes and voting for Biden.

Despite being eligible to vote in previous election cycles, this is Augustavos first time voting in a presidential election after seeing the current administration. Honestly, Yang and Bernie were my first choices but at this point Im [with] anyone that aint Donald.

On the issues: Issues like [the] national economy, especially post COVID, freedom to practice my religion, response to civil disobedience, and public health insurance / issues are all [at the] top of my priority list. It seems like they both just want power and position and [are] not at all concern about what the people really need. My decisions are based on my personal life experiences. Mason-Belden has since voted, but did not reveal her final choice.

Voting method: Drop off absentee ballot at early voting site

Motivation to vote: The climate crisis, COVID response, justice for the BIPOC community, womens rights (abortion, funding of Planned Parenthood), LGBTQ+ rights. Joe Biden aligned most with my values. I converse with my friends/family or in school about current events, I watched clips of the debates on YouTube, and recently Ive been getting a lot of information from reputable sources on Instagram.

Making a choice: I just observed whats been going on and listened to news on TV and social media. Happy divers is the motivation for Cambridge Dive Team president Sharyn Bord – Cambridge Independent

Success for me is just seeing so many happy faces all the time.

In many ways, it is a very simple response to the highlights of Dr Sharyn Bords 43 years with what is now the Cambridge Dive Team.

The work started when it was Granta Swimming Club in 1967, and last week was recognised in the Queens Birthday Honours list, when Bord was awarded the British Empire Medal for voluntary service to diving in the county.

While the name of the club and facilities have changed markedly down the years, Bord has been a constant to keep pushing the young divers forward.

There have been county, regional and national champions, but arguably the biggest achievement was seeing Dan Goodfellow graduate from the Cambridge Dive Team to earn a bronze medal with Tom Daley in the 10m synchro at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

However, Bord feels that it is not just about individual medals and titles for the divers.

Kids love to dive well maybe it is a bit Marmite, they love it or hate it, she says.

But those that love it, just to see their expressions on faces, they dont necessarily have to be good, they just have to get the thrill of going in the way they want to go in.

You know whether you have done it well, or done it badly and if youve done it well, thats a big smile on the face.

It would be fair to say that the success is probably disproportionate to the facilities available that is not to knock anything at Parkside Pools, it is just that it is only a 5m facility, where most leading diving clubs have a 10m board.

Weve been very fortunate, says Bord. We have a very different set-up to most swimming and diving clubs because we are pretty independent and we act in an independent way.

Developing not just the athletes but the coaches as well is a key ingredient of the club.

The Cambridge Dive Team has been a learning ground for coaches as well, with their first professional full-time coach, James Etherington, being appointed in 2003.

The philosophy weve always had is to make sure the professional coaches weve had are developing at the same time as the club is, so they have been given a little bit of a free rein to make the best of what they can, she says.

I think it actually inspires them to do a lot of good. Weve had really good coaches, and thats helped the club immensely.

All our older divers are encouraged to do helpers courses, then carry on to do assistant coach and coach courses.

Alice (Clark) was a diver and now she is our head coach, Dan Murphy is the professional coach and he came through our Learn To Dive scheme.

Its good and I think they therefore have a big loyalty to the club, as well, to keep within the Dive Team.

Loyalty is something that Bord knows so much about.

Having initially been a swimmer, Bord switched to become a diver when the original Parkside Pool opened in Cambridge in 1963.

She started coaching and in 1967 became volunteer head coach of the diving section of Granta Swimming Club, which amalgamated to become City of Cambridge Swimming Club in 1985.

The new Parkside Pools opened in May 1999, and with 10 club divers the priority became to rebuild the diving section. Membership swelled, with record numbers competing in national championships

Bord founded the Cambridge Diving Development Centre in 2001, providing community Learn to Dive lessons, and in 2003, after a fundraising programme, a professional diving programme was facilitated and the clubs first professional full-time coach appointed.

In 2004, the Cambridge Dive Team was founded.

The centre continued to grow with the appointment of more professional coaches plus a development programme for divers to become junior coaches.

Bord was administrator and treasurer for 10 years before becoming president, and is a judge, referee, county diving secretary and a member of the East Region Technical Diving committee.

It begs the question, why stay involved so long?

Madness probably! I would say Im addicted to it, says Bord.

Ive been going to leave in the background so many times.

My big aim was to get a professional centre here with paid coaches, because it was all volunteer until 2003, and then we had our first full-time professional coach.

I said once that happens its great because then I can just walk away and I know its going to survive.

But then there is always a little thing that has cropped up thats kept me there, and I probably havent really wanted to run which is probably the bottom line.

There is always something coming on.

Most of my time now is in the background. I dont get to do very much coaching now which is the bit I really loved, but I still get a big kick out of just seeing the club do well and expanding still. We have ambitious plans further down the line. Im trying to do less!

The BEM recognises all the hard work to build Cambridge Dive Team to what it is today, but Bord remains extremely self-deprecating about the honour.

Im very proud, she says.

I feel a bit embarrassed by it to be honest because there are so many people that do such a lot of hard work.

I know Ive been around a long time, but on the way there have been lots and lots of people that have helped me immensely so in a way its not me, its a collection of people.

Langer motivated to end season at No. 1 before 37th Masters – pgatour.com

Despite the impressive list of rookies on PGA TOUR Champions in 2020, if they want to compete at the highest level on this Tour, they still have to go through Bernhard Langer.

And this week Langer, a five-time Charles Schwab Cup winner, returns to a place hes owned over the last few seasons not to mention he also gets to sleep in his own bed.

Its definitely one of my favorites, said Langer at the TimberTech Championship, where he is the defending champion. As a Tour member, you travel all year long and all your life. So it's very special when you get to stay home and work at the same time, have some home-cooked meals, sleep in your own bed, and have lots of friends and family, usually.

The event has been part of the Champions Tour schedule since 2007, played annually in Boca Raton, Florida where Langer is a resident. He won by five shots in 2019 and finished runner-up in 2018. Langer has five other top-10 finishes at this event in his Champions Tour career including another victory, in 2010.

Langer is second in the Charles Schwab Cup standings so far this season with steady performance after steady performance. He has 10 top-10 results in just 13 tournaments so far, including a win at the Cologuard Classic.

The 41-time Champions Tour winner says as he gets closer to wrapping up his season, hes just as motivated to have the No.1 on his caddys back even though no Charles Schwab Cup will be awarded at the end of this year.

Well, it's always a good thing to have that little bib, the Charles Schwab bib, on your caddie's back, because that means you're out there and the others have to chase, says Langer. I would rather be in front than way behind.

As far as momentum for this week is concerned, Langer says he will rely on the good memories from a year ago.

Langers daughter, Jackie Langer-John, caddied for her father at last years TimberTech Championship. It was only her third time ever caddying for him and the duo finished at 19-under, which was the tournament scoring record. Its not like Jackie was totally inexperienced as the tournament came down to the wire, however she was on his bag in 2018 as well, when he lost in a playoff.

She had never won with me caddying, so that was another reason to celebrate. And in front of the home crowd, family and friends, makes it that much more special, as you say, says Langer. But (defending) any tournament is cool, because you are comfortable with the golf course, you know you have done well there before, and so there is no reason why not have another good week.

But while Langer has been his consistent self so far in 2020, hes had to compete with the highly competitive new crop on the Champions Tour.

Both Jim Furyk and Phil Mickelson won their first two starts after turning 50. Ernie Els, who just turned 51 earlier this month, has won twice already this season. And Mike Weir, who turned 50 the same day as Furyk, has three top-10 finishes in just eight starts.

But Langer, whose confidence never wavered, isnt worried about the new group of competitors.

It happens on every tour. On the [PGA TOUR] there are young guys coming out of college. On our Tour they are turning 50. And its just part of life. But this year's rookie class has been exceptional, says Langer. They are mostly major winners, from Mickelson, Furyk, Ernie Els, Mike Weir, KJ Choi, on and on you go. They are all very established players, have phenomenal careers on the [PGA TOUR], and they are going to have -- certainly make a big impact on this tour, I would say.

But me personally, it's great to see them out here, but it's going to be a little bit harder to win, like it is every few months when new guys come out.

Still, Langer hasnt seemed fazed.

Hes motivated to have a great week at home in Boca Raton before heading to the Charles Schwab Cup Championship usually the season finale on the Champions Tour, and the site of his five Charles Schwab Cup wins before the Masters in mid-November.

Those three tournaments are all important to me, says Langer. I have worked very hard the last couple of weeks to get my game in shape and hopefully finish the season strongly.

How to Stay Motivated to Run When It's Cold and Dark

I crave my early-morning runs to get the head-clearing exercise and alone time I need for my mental health. The only roadblock is that the sun is rising later and later, and now it's pitch black when I go on my runs. For a couple weeks, I cursed the dark, gave up those runs, and followed workout videos inside instead. But I just didn't enjoy them as much and knew I needed to get back outside, even if it felt like I was running at midnight! Here are the tips I follow to stay motivated to run in the dark.

From then on, instead of letting fear sink in or giving up because it wasn't as enticing as being out in the warm sun, I saw running in the dark as a gift. There is such a glorious peacefulness I only experience while running early in the morning before the sun rises, and that alone motivates me to lace up my sneaks and head out into the darkness.
