The Adult Education Department at Northeast Texas Community College announced a new online General Education Development (GED) program. Classes are free and begin March 19.

In order to participate in this program, students must have reliable access to the Internet (preferably high speed) and meet eligibility requirements. While the majority of the program is completed online, 12 direct contact hours are required.

"We are happy to be able to offer GED classes online. This is a great opportunity for motivated, computer-savvy students to get their GED on their own schedule," said Sue Barker, director of the Adult Education Department.

Students interested in this program must attend an orientation session at the Mount Pleasant Adult Community Education Center at 201 N. Gibson (located behind the Child Development Center). To register, or for more information, contact Amy House at 903-575-2130 or Freda Duncan at 903-434-8639.

According to Ms. Barker, the online GED may not be the best option for all students. Traditional face-to-face classes are also offered free of charge at various locations throughout the area. Call Ms. Duncan at 903-434-8639 to learn more about these as well.
