AHMEDABAD: To commemorate the centenary year of Satyagraha Ashram at Sabarmati, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Ahmedabad and spend 30 minutes at the Ashram. He will inaugurate a new exhibition at the Ashram, plant a tamarind tree, visit Hruday Kunj and make announcements regarding a new Rs 220 crore Sabarmati Ashram area development plan. The PM will then present the Ashram digital copies of the entire 'Gandhi Papers' curated by the National Archives of India (NIA). The PM will pay tribute to Jain saint and philosopher, Shrimad Rajchandra and release a Rs10 coin and commemorative stamp marking his 150th anniversary, and also release a special day cover of the India Post themed on the Hruday Kunj at Sabarmati Ashram on June 29. Modi had spoken about Shrimad Rajchandra in his Independence Day speech, last year. The Gujarat-born saint-philosopher who interacted with Mahatma Gandhi before he went to South Africa is believed to have left a deep impression on Mahatma's life and had influenced his thoughts on truth, non- violence and austere living. Gandhi first met Rajchandra on his return from England as a barrister. He admired the Jain saint deeply for carrying out his duties so ably and with complete detachment, while being a father to four children and a dealer of precious stones. Gandhi's made his reverence for Rajchandra clear: "In my moments of spiritual crisis, Shrimadji was my refuge," Bapu has written in his autobiography.
