The Mt. Pleasant Senior Center is now offering YogaFlex, a program designed by yoga instructor Joyce Prutz of Mt. Pleasant Township that offers the benefits of yoga to those who may not be as flexible.

Prutz is a yoga instructor at the Regional Family YMCA of East Huntingdon.

Prutz has been teaching yoga for five years and decided to create a form that would be perfect for older enthusiasts.

It incorporates more stretches into a yoga routine, Prutz said. I don't teach yoga philosophy, mantras, chanting, or chakras.

Prutz will be teaching a six-week course.

We had some interest in it so we thought we'd try it to see if people liked it here, Mt. Pleasant Senior Center Director Pam Soforic said. If there is interest, we would like to offer it again soon. Maybe in the fall if we can.

The YogaFlex program is for anyone.

Anyone can take YogaFlex, Prutz said. Set up a chair along with a mat, that way the participant can choose at which level they want to practice.

Prutz said with many seniors, range of motion and even balance can be a concern, but she provides tools to help those who need a little extra assistance.
