Wheeler isnt alone in her views. A growing body of medical experts believes that a whole food, plant-based diet can help to reduce the risk of fatal heart disease. Here, weve gathered some of their top tips.

On a bold mission to prevent one million heart attacks, Joel Kahn, MD (aka, Americas Healthy Heart Doc) is a seasoned cardiologist who has written extensively on the topic of heart health and diet. According to him, six basic factorsincluding smoking cessation, increasing physical activity, and a healthy dietcan reduce heart disease risk by 92 percent. He also promotes the concept of Vitamin L (the L is for lifestyle) as the key to preventing early death. Finally, Kahn highlights four foods that are particularly good at reversing artery diseasegarlic, pomegranates, bergamot (a citrus fruit), and green tea, as each offers unique, heart-protecting properties.

Plant-based doctor and professor at New York University School of Medicine, Michelle McMacken, MD often writes about protein myths promoted by doctors. She maintains the belief that we need more protein (and that protein always comes from animals) and fewer carbohydrates to get lean is misleading and dangerous. In fact, McMacken cites research that low-carbohydrate, high-protein diets (as well as eating a lot of dairy) are actually associated with heart disease and early death. She reinforces Kahns point that lifestyle changes are the best approach to dealing with the root causes of heart disease rather than pills, which simply address symptoms.

Neal Barnard, MD and the experts at the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a nonprofit health organization, have been leaders in the plant-based movement for decades. They do not back down from making bold statements. While the mainstream likes to repeat the notion that fish is a health food, PCRM counters these alternative facts with four important points. Firstly, fish is high in cholesterol. Secondly, fish is high in saturated fat (which has a strong association with heart disease). Thirdly, fish oil supplements effect on heart health is still inconclusive, while some studies have shown that they can increase your risk of diabetes and cancer. And lastly, fish are full of toxins (such as mercury) that are dangerous to our health. So, if youre looking for foods that reduce your risk for heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, then its time to look toward plants, not fish.

Leafy greens are one of the healthiest foods on the planet, especially for your heart. This affordable superfood group is packed with heart-healthy nutrients including nitrates that are linked to lower blood pressure and the prevention and reversal of heart disease. Kayli Dice, a registered dietitian at meal planning platform Lighter, suggests loading up on leafy green vegetables every chance you get. A team of scientists has created a reprogrammable light-based quantum processor, reducing light losses and enabling advancements in quantum computing and secure communications.

Scientists have created a reprogrammable light-based processor, a world-first, that they say could usher in a new era of quantum computing and communication.

Technologies in these emerging fields that operate at the atomic level are already realizing big benefits for drug discovery and other small-scale applications.

In the future, large-scale quantum computers promise to be able to solve complex problems that would be impossible for todays computers.

Lead researcher Professor Alberto Peruzzo from RMIT University in Australia said the teams processor a photonics device, which used light particles to carry information could help enable successful quantum computations, by minimizing light losses.

Our design makes the quantum photonic quantum computer more efficient in terms of light losses, which is critical for being able to keep the computation going, said Peruzzo, who heads the ARC Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computation and Communication Technology (CQC2T) node at RMIT.

If you lose light, you have to restart the computation.

Other potential advances included improved data transmission capabilities for unhackable communications systems and enhanced sensing applications in environmental monitoring and healthcare, Peruzzo said.

The team reprogrammed a photonics processor in a range of experiments, achieving a performance equivalent to 2,500 devices, by applying varying voltages. Their results and analysis are published in Nature Communications.

This innovation could lead to a more compact and scalable platform for quantum photonic processors, Peruzzo said.

Yang Yang, lead author and RMIT PhD scholar, said the device was fully controllable, enabled fast reprogramming with reduced power consumption, and replaced the need for making many tailored devices.

We experimentally demonstrated different physical dynamics on a single device, he said.

Its like having a switch to control how particles behave, which is useful for both understanding the quantum world and creating new quantum technologies.

Professor Mirko Lobino from the University of Trento in Italy made the innovative photonic device, using a crystal called lithium niobate, and Professor Yogesh Joglekar from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis in the United States brought his expertise in condensed matter physics.

Lithium niobate has unique optical and electro-optic properties, making it ideal for various applications in optics and photonics.

My group was involved in the fabrication of the device, which was particularly challenging because we had to miniaturize a large number of electrodes on top of the waveguides to achieve this level of reconfigurability, Lobino said.

Programmable photonic processors offer a new route to explore a range of phenomena in these devices that will potentially unlock incredible advancements in technology and science, Joglekar said.

Meanwhile, Peruzzos team has also developed a world-first hybrid system that combines machine learning with modeling to program photonic processors and help control the quantum devices.

Peruzzo said the control of a quantum computer was crucial to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of data processing.

One of the biggest challenges to the devices output accuracy is noise, which describes the interference in the quantum environment that impacts how qubits perform, he said.

Qubits are the basic units of quantum computing.

There are a whole range of industries that are developing full-scale quantum computing, but they are still fighting against the errors and inefficiencies caused by noise, Peruzzo said.

Attempts to control qubits typically relied on assumptions about what noise was and what caused it, Peruzzo said.

Rather than make assumptions, we developed a protocol that uses machine learning to study the noise while also using modelling to predict what the system does in response to the noise, he said.

With the use of the quantum photonic processors, Peruzzo said this hybrid method could help quantum computers perform more precisely and efficiently, impacting how we control quantum devices in the future.

We believe our new hybrid method has the potential to become the mainstream control approach in quantum computing, Peruzzo said.

Lead author Dr. Akram Youssry, from RMIT, said the results of the newly-developed approach showed significant improvement over the traditional methods of modelling and control, and could be applied to other quantum devices beyond photonic processors.

The method helped us uncover and understand aspects of our devices that are beyond the known physical models of this technology, he said.

This will help us design even better devices in the future.

This work is published in Npj Quantum Information.

Peruzzo said startup companies in quantum computing could be created around his teams photonic device design and quantum control method, which they would continue to study in terms of applications and their full potential.

Quantum photonics is one of the most promising quantum industries, because the photonics industry and manufacturing infrastructure are very well established, he said.

Quantum machine-learning algorithms have potential advantages over other methods in certain tasks, especially when dealing with large datasets.

Imagine a world where computers work millions of times faster than they do today, where we can send information securely without any fear of it being intercepted, and where we can solve problems in seconds that would currently take years.

This isnt just fantasy its the potential future powered by quantum technologies, and research like ours is paving the way.

During a day that brought together the quantum ecosystem at the French National Library, Sbastien Lecornu, Minister of the Armed Forces, represented by the General Delegate for Armament, Sylvie Retailleau, Minister of Higher Education and Research, Franck Riester, Minister in charge of Foreign Trade, Attractiveness, Francophonie and French Nationals Abroad, and Marina Ferrari, Secretary of State for Digital Affairs with Bruno Bonnell, General Secretary for Investment, presented on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, the concrete results of the national quantum strategy, three years after its launch by President Emmanuel Macron. On this occasion, the launch of the PROQCIMA program was announced. PROQCIMA aims to have two prototypes of universal quantum computers of French design by 2030.

Considering the stakes of economic growth and sovereignty, and following the lead of major world powers like the United States, China, the United Kingdom, or Germany, the President launched, in January 2021, an ambitious national strategy on quantum technologies in France, endowed with cumulative state funding, including France 2030, of about 1 billion over four years, for a total public-private commitment of 1.8 billion.

This strategy is structured around 6 strategic objectives:

The ongoing second quantum revolution since the late 20th century will multiply our computing capacities by making calculations that are currently impossible accessible, allow us to perceive our environment with unprecedented precision, and explore new ways of transmitting information. Moreover, these technologies promise to enable precise navigation in locations where the GPS network is not accessible and make MRI machines portable. They will also drastically accelerate medical research and the discovery of new materials with exceptional properties.

Making France a Leader in Quantum Technologies

According to government estimates, quantum startups have raised over 350 million to date, making France the leading European country and the third worldwide behind the United States and Canada in terms of fundraising, and second with Canada in terms of valuation.

French startups are also in second place with Canada in terms of talent attractiveness and are responsible for about 20% of the machines sold or ordered at this stage worldwide, making France one of the leading manufacturers and exporters.

Quantum strategy in numbers:

Launching the PROQCIMA Program

The Government is launching the PROQCIMA program, inspired by the ULTRA program (launched by the British during World War II) in the era of quantum computing. The goal of this program is to have at least two prototypes of universal quantum computers with 128 logical qubits by 2030, extending to 2048 logical qubits by 2035.

France is one of the few countries worldwide with a solid foundation in upstream research and technology, as well as the industrial capability to seriously explore the feasibility of a Fault Tolerant Quantum Computer (FTQC).

Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming lunar eclipse and whether it will affect the Holi celebrations in India:

First things first, the lunar eclipse expected to occur on March 25 will be a Penumbral lunar eclipse. A penumbral lunar eclipse occurs when Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, but the three celestial bodies do not align perfectly. Instead, the Moon moves through the outer part of Earth's shadow, known as the penumbra.

During a penumbral lunar eclipse, the Moon dims slightly as it enters the Earth's penumbral shadow, but the effect is often subtle and can be difficult to observe with the naked eye.

Unlike partial or total lunar eclipses where the Moon passes through the Earth's umbral shadow, penumbral eclipses typically result in only a faint shading or darkening of the Moon's surface.

Because the penumbral shadow is less dense than the umbral shadow, penumbral lunar eclipses are considered less dramatic and noticeable compared to partial or total lunar eclipses.

As per Hindu tradition, the sutak period is observed as the time when the lunar eclipse happens and all kinds of auspicious activities are prohibited during this period.

The eclipse will be on the same day as Holi, but the penumbral lunar eclipse will not be visible in India.

Therefore, there will be no sutak period during that time. This means there will be no hindrance in the celebrations of the Holi festival in India.

However, before a solar eclipse, it is common for individuals of the Hindu faith to fast for up to six hours. Meals are often prepared only after the eclipse has passed, following guidelines outlined in the Kurma Purana regarding meal consumption during the event.

Pregnant women are believed to be particularly vulnerable to the effects of an eclipse and are expected to observe stricter religious prohibitions to prevent birth defects in their children.

The penumbral eclipse will begin at 12:53 am EDT (0453 GMT), the maximum stage of the eclipse will occur a couple of hours later at 3:12 am EDT (0712 GMT) and the penumbral eclipse will end at 5:32 am EDT (0932 GMT). However, it will not be visible in India.

The lunar eclipse will only be visible in parts of Ireland, Belgium, Spain, England, South Norway, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Germany, the United States, Japan, Switzerland, Netherlands and France.

Furthermore, they demonstrate a preposterous tendency to distort history, selectively discarding facts that do not align with their narratives.

Strength of acceptance: Hinduisms legacy of tolerance

In ancient times, long before Christianity had made its way to Europe, the apostles of Jesus Christ journeyed to distant lands, including Armenia and India, to preach the gospel. Among them, Bartholomew and Thaddeus introduced Christianity to Armenia, while the Apostle Thomas brought the teachings of Christ to India. Notably, within the global spiritual movement of Ananda, founded on the principles of Swami Paramhansa Yogananda, a revered Hindu Yogi, Jesus Christ holds a central place of honour. His portrait adorns the Altar of Ananda, and devotees pay daily homage through prayers. In his renowned work, Autobiography of a Yogi, Swami Yogananda writes in Chapter 33 about the Mahavatar, a prominent Hindu Yogi also known as Babaji, affirming, The Mahavatar is in constant communion with Christ. According to Ananda, Christ appeared to the revered yoga master, Babaji, entreating him to dispatch a messenger to the Western world to disseminate the teachings of original Christianity.

By nature, Hindus have long exhibited a remarkable tolerance, if not outright acceptance, of diversity, owing to the inherent variety within their own faith. This inclusivity has made it relatively easy for them to embrace Armenians within their communities. Over time, Armenian settlements flourished in various Indian cities, such as Agra, Lahore, Gwalior, Delhi, Narwar, Surat, Calcutta, Bombay, Madras, and beyond. However, the Turkic rulers of India, like Jehangir, did not share the same tolerant outlook as the Hindu populace they governed. According to Mesrovb Jacob Seths account in his book History of Armenians in India, there is documentation of Jehangirs endeavour to coerce two Armenian Christian children into converting to Islam. Despite facing pressure, the two brothers, Zul-Qarnain and Iskanderus, remained steadfast in their resistance to conversion. Even after being forcibly circumcised in 1606 on Jehangirs orders, at ages fourteen and eleven, respectively, they adamantly refused all attempts to sway them from their Christian faith.

Struggle against prejudice: Targeting Hindus and Armenians

Across the annals of history, Hindus and Armenians have faced orchestrated hate campaigns by their adversaries. The dilapidated Armenian churches in Eastern Turkey and Azerbaijan, as well as the ruined Hindu temples in Pakistan, serve as stark reminders of the animosity directed towards us, now entrenched within their foreign policy agendas. Turkish, Azerbaijani, and Pakistani pseudo-intellectuals have perpetuated historical negationism, fabricating narratives devoid of credible evidence, to sever the ties between Armenians and Hindus with their ancestral lands.

The rebranding of well-documented Armenian churches as Caucasian Albanian and the appropriation of Udi Christian heritage in Azerbaijan are alarming developments. According to a report by the Cornell-led Caucasus Heritage Watch (CHW), decades of high-resolution satellite imagery document the systematic destruction of Armenian cultural heritage in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan since the late 1990s. Likewise, a report commissioned by Dr. Shoaib Suddle and presented to Pakistans Supreme Court underscores the deplorable condition of temples and Hindu places of worship in Pakistan, as detailed in a Dawn report.

Shedding light on dark pasts: Hindu and Armenian genocide

Despite the staggering loss of at least 664,000 and potentially up to 1.2 million Armenians during the genocide orchestrated by the Ottoman Turks, Turkish intellectuals faced vehement criticism when they issued an online apology for the Armenian Genocide in 2008. Their act was met with fierce opposition from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as reported by The Guardian newspaper.

In India, the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus took place and has been recognised by the US-based non-profit International Commission for Human Rights and Religious Freedom (ICHRRF). It has recognised the 19891991 atrocities against Kashmiri Hindus as an act of genocide. As per the United Nations Refugee Agency, approximately 300,000 Kashmiri Pandits (Hindus) are reported to have left the region due to constant persecution from the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and other militant groups, like Hizbul-Mujahideen (HM). Hizbul Mujahideen is designated as a terrorist organisation by multiple countries, including India, the United States, and the European Union.

Regional alliances and anti-India sentiments: Turkey, Azerbaijan and Pakistans unified stand

Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan have demonstrated a unified stance against Armenia while concurrently displaying anti-India sentiments on the global stage. Erdogan, who refuses to recognise the Armenian Genocide and aligns with the genocidal ambitions of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, underscored in the Pakistani parliament, as per reports from the Turkish news outlet Daily Sabah, that Today, the issue of Kashmir is as pertinent to us as it is to you (Pakistanis) and there is no disparity between Gallipoli and Kashmir. Erdogan has openly endorsed and actively supported Pakistan, which, reciprocally, lends support to Islamist terrorist factions in Kashmir. These groups perpetrate violence not only against Hindus but also Muslims, epitomizing the intolerant worldview espoused by Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan.

According to a report from the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, Pakistani education curricula propagate animosity towards Hindus, with a focus on historic revisionism aimed at exalting Islamic civilization and disparaging the contributions of religious minority communities. Similarly, Azerbaijan, like its ally Pakistan, fosters hostility towards its adversary, Armenia. As reported by Faustin Vincent in Le Monde, Azerbaijan recently reissued maps of Nagorno-Karabakh with streets named after Enver Pasha, a Turkish leader associated with the 1915 Armenian genocide. Despite Bakus assertions to the international community about respecting the rights of Armenians in the region, his actions speak otherwise. Azerbaijan has consistently sought to undermine Armenian heritage and exacerbate tensions through inflammatory rhetoric targeting Armenians.

Navigating the diplomatic landscape

In the complex arena of international relations, mastering the art of diplomacy is paramount for fostering successful diplomatic relations. Effective diplomatic engagement requires a delicate balance of strategy, communication, and negotiation. The art of international engagement requires finesse, foresight, and diplomacy. By adhering to these strategies, nations can cultivate robust diplomatic relations that contribute to global peace, stability, and prosperity. It is now imperative for both Hindus and Armenians to awaken the West from its state of indifference and compel it to acknowledge the genocides perpetrated against their respective communities. The governments of India and Armenia must take the lead in this endeavour by formally recognising the genocides committed against Armenians and Hindus, respectively. Subsequently, they should engage in diplomatic efforts to encourage other nations to follow suit.

Furthermore, there is a pressing need for India, Armenia, and Greece to explore the possibility of forming a security alliance to address the escalating threats in their respective regions. These nations possess significant geostrategic advantages: India holds a prominent position in the Indo-Pacific region; Armenia is strategically located in the South Caucasus, serving as a potential gateway to Europe via Georgia; and Greece occupies a key position in the Eastern Mediterranean. By collaborating closely, these countries can effectively counteract the destabilising actions of Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan. While advocating for peace in our regions and globally, we remain steadfast in safeguarding our national interests. Strengthening the bond between Hindus and Armenians is essential for promoting peace and stability in our regions and beyond. Hence, the importance of mastering the art of diplomacy in navigating the complexities of the global stage and fostering successful diplomatic relations is the need of the hour.

Secretary Visits New Hampshire to Highlight Biden-Harris Administrations Efforts to Lower Prescription Drug Costs

This week, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra toured New England to highlighted how President Bidens agenda is delivering for communities across the country. The Secretary joined First Lady Jill Biden in Boston to announce $100 million investment in womens health research, toured Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire to highlight lowering health care costs, sat down with the Wall Street Journal for their annual Health Forum, and spoke with students at Harvard Kennedy Schools Institute of Politics.

Event with First Lady Jill Biden

On Wednesday, Secretary Becerra visited Boston, Massachusetts, for an event with the First Lady to announce $100 million in research and development for womens health through the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), an agency within HHS.

The issue of healthcare for women has faced challenges longer than any of us have been alive: scientific challenges, clinical challenges, political challenges, and now this week, down in Alabama, another legal challenge, said Secretary Becerra in remarks at the event. The key here is that President Joe Biden made [ARPA-H's announcement] possible: $100 million. That is everything. And with the First Lady launching this White House initiative on women's health research, we have the focus we need. And so at the Department of Health and Human Services, she had us at hello: we are ready to go.

Visit to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire

On Tuesday, Secretary Becerra visited Dartmouth Hithcock Medical Center (DHMC) in Lebanon, New Hampshire as part of the Biden-Harris Administrations Investing in America Tour. Secretary Becerra, along with U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (NH), started their visit by touring DHMCs birthing pavilion and meeting with leaders of the Moms in Recovery Program, a program for pregnant and parenting women who struggle with substance use. They also discussed rural maternal health equity.

The Biden-Harris Administration has prioritized maternal health, including by urging all states and territories to provide a full year of continuous postpartum coverage through Medicaid and CHIP under the American Rescue Plan Act. To date, CMS has approved these postpartum coverage extensions in states and DC and the Virgin Islands, including New Hampshire since November 2023.

Secretary Becerra and Senator Hassan toured the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Centers birthing pavilion.

Afterwards at a fireside chat, Secretary Becerra discussed how President Bidens lower cost prescription drug law (the Inflation Reduction Act) is generating savings for people with Medicare. HHS estimates 73,000 Granite Staters will save an average of $490 per year on prescription drug costs when new policies go into effect in 2025.

Secretary Becerra also spoke in Boston at the Wall Street Journal Health Forum about HHSs work on COVID, health care enrollment, closing health equity gaps, and lowering drug prices.

We know we have more to do to advance our knowledge and medical treatment for conditions that affect women. ARPA-H is joining an HHS-wide effort to take up that challenge, Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra said. Women are dramatically under-represented in research into critical issues, including coronary issues and autoimmune diseases. Women have their needs overlooked or are left out entirely from scientific and health research overall.

Access to maternal health care for women in rural areas is shrinking across the country, and on Tuesday, the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services heard more about the problem in New Hampshire.

Secretary Xavier Becerra said that Washington needs to do more to address the issue.

In the birthing pavilion at Dartmouth-Hitchcock in Lebanon, Becerra and U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-New Hampshire, heard from providers about the expectant mothers in New Hampshire and Vermont who rely on the hospital....

Maternity deserts are the growing swaths of the United States where women do not have nearby access to obstetric care.

Clearly, we could do better, especially in rural communities where it takes forever to get to one of those major hospitals if you really need them, Becerra said. So we're going to try to do more and put assets in place in rural communities, so they can access the care they need faster.

Rematches can often take on a more personal feeling than other boxing matches, and Josh Taylor vs. Jack Catterall 2 certainly appears to be highly a personal affair to the fighters involved.

The duo were involved in a contentious battle for Taylor's undisputed super-lightweight crown in Feb. 2022, with Taylor claiming victory by split decision.

The "Tartan Tornado" has sincerelinquished the WBC, IBF and WBA titles and lost the WBO belt to Teofimo Lopez last year, but the lack of titles will not put a damper on Taylor's rematch with Catterall, which will be shown live worldwide(excluding the United States)on DAZNon April 27.

For Taylor, the bout is less about getting himself back into the title conversation and more about getting one over on a rival.

"I could retire today and have had a career one in 65 million, because Im the only undisputed champion in the four-belt era in the UK," Taylor said at a press conference on Monday."I could be happy, but this fight, Im right up for.

"Forget titles, championships, belts, I just want to fight this guy, and Im up for it in training and enjoying it. The ambition and hunger are there. There are bragging rights, its right up there and I cant wait."

After both men were deducted points for infractions in the later rounds of their first bout, Taylor expects another scrappy battle against his opponentwhen they meet inLeeds in April.

"The last time his tactics were to spoil and hold and steal the fight which is what he tried to do, and the judges didnt like it, so if he comes to fight, great, the referee this time doesnt allow the holding," Taylor said.

"You lost, why dont you go and phone the police again? Write a letter to your MP again, you grass."

Needless to say, there is no love lost between the two fighters, as Taylor so succinctly explained.

"I dont hate anyone," he said, "but I dont like this guy and I cant wait to smash his brains in, what little brains hes got."
