After more than two months of closures due to the coronavirus pandemic, Dubais UFC GYM is now operating at full capacity and welcoming members to its spacious clubs in Business Bay and JBR.
A franchise of the UFC GYM in USA, the Dubai UFC GYM promotes a blend of fitness and mixed martial arts (MMA) programmes across all age groups, regardless of gender. MMA is known to improve strength and confidence as well as mental toughness and resilience in individuals. It is particularly beneficial for kids as it enhances hand-eye coordination and builds courage and self-discipline from early on.
The UFC GYM is affiliated with the UAE Jiu Jitsu Federation, which enables it to host and take part in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitions and belting ceremonies in the UAE. We are following every piece of advice from the government, health officials and fitness governing bodies within the UAE, and have taken extra precautionary measures to ensure a safe work-out environment in our clubs, says Krzysztof Soszynski, former UFC contender and Director of Fitness and MMA of the UFC GYM in the Middle East. He encourages UAE residents to invest in health to boost immunity and wellbeing to lower the risk of infectious diseases.
We offer an extensive programme of functional fitness and mixed martial arts, and these blend skill training and conditioning. Our functional fitness classes are usually high-intensity training classes, and focus on speed, agility, core strength, and flexibility. The UFC GYM signature classes, which include boxing conditioning, kick boxing conditioning, Fight Fit and Daily Ultimate Training, build fitness, strength, stamina and discipline. Outside the signature UFC GYM classes we offer a variety of MMA disciplines, which include Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA skills and conditioning, says Soszynski.
Fully sanitised and disinfected
According to Lisa Garrett, Engagement and Corporate Manager, The UFC GYM has increased its cleaning manpower to ensure that the facilities are fully sanitised and disinfected. Our staff are having their temperatures taken every day and anyone who enters into our clubs must have their temperature checked as well. If anyone shows symptoms or has a temperature above 37.5C, they will be not allowed.
There are also hand sanitiser and cleaning stations throughout the facilities. We have also ensured that our coaches and members make sure that all the gym equipment are wiped down before and after use, ensuring that social distancing rules of two metres is adhered to throughout the facilities, she says. The changing facilities and showers are fully operational in the gym and members are given fresh towels on arrival, which are then laundered and sanitised.
All the classes are running to full capacity. However, we are encouraging contact-less mixed martial art conditioning classes by using dummies and striking bags, says Soszynski.

US Could Hit 100,000 New COVID-19 Scenarios A Working day, Warns Top Health and fitness Pro Anthony Fauci – SwordsToday.ie

Evidently we are not in whole manage ideal now, Infectious illness expert Anthony Fauci mentioned. (File)
Washington:
A major US well being specialist warned Congress on Tuesday that new coronavirus cases could much more than double to 100,000 for each working day if authorities and the community are unsuccessful to get steps to suppress the pandemic.
Infectious illness pro Anthony Fauci, a main member of President Donald Trumps coronavirus undertaking power, mentioned the United States was headed in the incorrect route on the pandemic and demanded that Individuals have on masks and avoid crowds right after lax behavior propelled new outbreaks.
Im extremely anxious and I am not glad with what is heading on, since we are going in the erroneous way, he testified to a Senate panel.
Alarming spikes in new cases in southern hotspots Texas and Florida are driving the everyday countrywide full of new scenarios to more than 40,000 for each working day, and they have to have to be tamped down swiftly to stay clear of hazardous surges somewhere else in the nation, Fauci stressed.
Obviously we are not in whole handle ideal now, he reported introducing: I would not be astonished if it goes up to 100,000 a day if this does not change close to.
The dire messaging reinforced issues about the US potential to rein in a pandemic that has claimed some 126,000 American lives.
The testimony comes as the United States, the worlds most difficult-strike nation, with a lot more than 2.6 million infections, was remaining off the checklist of 15 nations to which the European Union will open its borders from July 1, and as it grapples with how to assure a secure reopening of faculties in the coming months.
READ Europe, bid au revoir to American vacationers
Fauci reported he considered some states are skipping above some of the checkpoints that assure harmless reopenings of small business and general public spaces.
And he also offered a blunt concept to the nations young grown ups who have engaged in unsafe habits together with congregating in bars, not carrying masks, and not pursuing social distancing guidelines.
I imagine we will need to emphasize the accountability that we have, both of those as individuals and as aspect of a societal work to stop the epidemic, that we all have to enjoy a component in that, Fauci explained.
Trump instructed wear a mask
The head of the Facilities for Ailment Management and Avoidance, Robert Redfield, sounded the alarm about rising trajectories in a number of jurisdictions, including COVID-19 hospitalizations growing in 12 states, and said it was significant that just about every American can take private responsibility and embraces the use of deal with coverings.
But the chairman of the panel, Republican Senator Lamar Alexander, also pointed the finger at Trump, declaring the president had the energy to conclusion politicization of mask-wearing that indicates if you are for Trump, you never use a mask. If you happen to be towards Trump, you do.
That is why I have advised that the president sometimes have on a mask, Alexander stated.
The president has lots of admirers, they would stick to his lead, he extra. It would assist conclusion this political debate.
Trump, who refuses to don a mask at community gatherings and in the earlier has mocked his rivals for putting on them, has signalled he needs to transfer on from the coronavirus crisis and concentration on his re-election marketing campaign.
READ Europe, bid au revoir to American vacationers
Democrats which includes his November election rival Joe Biden have savaged the president for deficiency of leadership on pandemic mitigation.
Tuesdays hearing focused in aspect on regardless of whether the United States can adequately put together for tens of hundreds of thousands of youngsters returning to college in the coming months inspite of the resilient pandemic raging in some states.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has advocated that the coming university yr get started with college students physically current in educational institutions, arguing that youngsters are considerably less likely to come to be symptomatic or severely ill with coronavirus than grownups.

Just as its changed how we work and socialize, the COVID-19 pandemic has likely forced you to switch up how you exercise. Maybe youve ditched the treadmill for trail runs, spin class for outdoor bike rides, or in-person yoga classes for on-demand sessions. With more time at home, youre possibly working out more than ever before. If youre looking for a way to measure all of your progress, a fitness tracker or smartwatch can give you important information on how hard youre working and how far youve come. There are lots of options out there, though, so we asked fitness professionals from Pilates instructors to marathon swimmers about their favorite trackers. Based on what type of data youre looking to track (like distance and speed for running or heart rate for interval training), their recommendations below should cover all types of workouts.
Recommended by athletes across multiple disciplines, the Apple Watch is likely your best bet if you plan on doing a mix of different activities. Lucy Kapell and Joe Kaufman, competitive swimmers with the Westchester Masters Swimming Association, rely on the watch for tracking their laps both in the pool and outside. It calculates lap swims accurately, and the settings can be easily adjusted for the length of the pool, says Kapell. Since it measures heart rate and calories burned, its also useful for workouts where you dont need to carefully track metrics like speed or distance. Gustavo Padron, a yoga instructor with the on-demand workout platform Glo,Leada Malek, a fitness instructor and sports physical therapist, and Equinox group fitness instructor Amanda Katz all use the watchs heart-rate function to measure the intensity of their workouts. Padron says, Paying attention to my heart rate can help me decide if I need a chill or more intense class.
Other users, like Corrie Alexander, founder of The Fit Careerist, and fitness blogger Michelle of Bliss From Balance, like how the watch syncs with other iPhone workout apps for following along with specific workouts. For example, Michelle says Peloton addicts will appreciate how the watch links to the Peloton app for feedback during classes. No matter what type of exercise theyre doing, fitness pros agree that the Apple Watch keeps their workout progress on track. As Katelyn DiGiorgio, vice president of training and technique at Pure Barre, says, The activity rings [on the Apple Watch] have kept me more engaged than other fitness trackers Ive used. I love the visual of closing a circle on each of the three simple activity ring tracks standing, moving, and exercise each day. It becomes addicting. Anthony Guidarelli, CTO of CITYROW and Mindbody, and Pilates instructor Meredith Simmons agree that meeting goals on their Apple Watches keeps them accountable.

Like the Apple Watch, the Fitbit Versa 2 syncs with your phone and can support other apps, including Amazon Alexa. Corey Lewis, personal trainer and co-founder of the digital wellness platform 1AND1 Life wears his Versa for a range of activities including hiking, yoga, bike riding, and weightlifting. He likes how the Fitbit community motivates him to train harder. They provide a leaderboard with challenges and awards, and the ability to set personal goals, he says. Personal trainer Sean Alexander, founder of Model Trainers, uses his Versa 2 for lifting weights, swimming, tennis, and hot yoga. One of my personal favorite features is the built-in HIIT timer that allows me to preset intervals for resting and working times before my workout, and then it will automatically start a timer for my active and rest moments at the push of a button, he says. Its much cheaper than an Apple Watch, so its a good one to try if youre just dipping your toes into the world of fitness trackers.
With modes for tracking elliptical workouts, rowing, daily steps, and more, the Garmin Vivoactive is another worthy contender for an all-around fitness tracker. Shannon Curran, a Westchester Masters swimmer, uses it for running, walking, and pool swimming. It has GPS good for walking and running and it will map your walk via the Garmin App, she says. I particularly like that it follows the number of laps that Ive swum in real time so if I lose count during a longer set, I can check my watch. If youve taken up roller-blading during the pandemic (which many have, as seen in the number of sold-out skate models), Mike Grebinsky, an instructor with Empire Skate Club, says the watchs cycling mode works well for tracking speed and distance while skating. He likes the extra-long battery life and how he can lock the screen so it displays just the metrics he needs. When I skate, I have to pay a lot of attention to the roadway so I dont have much time to look at my watch, he says. A newer version of this watch, the Vivoactive 4S, is this writers own personal pick for tracking everything from running to sleep, and Peter Reynolds, who runs the cycling style blog the Discerning Cyclist, calls the 4S a stylish everyday watch with good tracking and really strong battery life.
Magdalena Boulet, a member of the Hoka One One running team and winner of several 100-mile trail races, needs a tracker with a battery life that can stand up to her intense training schedule. While shes tried other brands, nothing has come close to the long-lasting Coros Apex watch. I love being able to wear it all day and charge it about once a week, despite putting miles on the trails or bike-commuting to work daily, she says. It even charges really quickly. Besides the battery life, shes impressed by the Apexs accuracy and how quickly its GPS picks up a satellite signal. It also tracks swimming and cycling if those are part of your routine, too.
Like Boulet, fellow Hoka One One athlete Joseph Gray the first Black American runner to win the USA and World Mountain Running Championships looks for a watch with generous battery life. Thats why he wears the Casio G-Shock Move, which is actually solar-powered so it wont quit on him during a run (you can charge it from an outlet, too). As for its functionality, Gray tells us, It pairs with the new G-Shock Move app, which helps you measure your VO2 max, build training plans, and even plan your recovery.
Since handlebar-mounted bike computers are easy to see while riding a bike and track tons of cycling-specific metrics, cyclists tend to prefer them over watch-style activity trackers, says Neile Weissman of the New York Cycle Club. Weissman and the clubs treasurer Bob Gilbert agree that Garmins computers are among the most popular because of their range of functions, large screens, and frequent firmware updates. Besides tracking speed, time, distance, and altitude, this model gives you turn-by-turn navigation on a preselected route and even has an alarm you can set to prevent your bike from getting stolen. When paired with a heart-rate monitor (on your wrist or around your chest), itll also give you feedback on VO2 max and recovery.
Even if your Ironman race or local triathlon race is canceled this year, this multisport Garmin watch will help you train in all three disciplines so youll be ready to go when things open back up. Paul Johnson, founder of Complete Tri, says, It tracks everything you can imagine, and looks stylish enough to wear when dressed-up, too. Billy Ferguson, founder and CEO of Trivelo calls it the daddy of triathlon watches and a masterclass in multisport smartwatch technology, adding that the current iteration is lighter and thinner than any previous edition.
Several swimmers mentioned that they love the Garmin 735XT, a slightly more affordable version of the Forerunner 945. Its accurate counting my laps in any distance pool, says Janine Serrell of the New York Open Water swim club. I also use it in the open water its accurate for distance and speed and its fun to see the maps of where you swim. Westchester Masters swimmer Serafina Sumargo likes how it tells me in real time how many laps Ive gone, and that it syncs up with the Garmin Connect and Swim.com apps for logging workouts. Its also a favorite of accomplished marathon swimmer and New York Open Water member Abby Fairman.
If you dont want to keep looking at your wrist while swimming, Westchester Masters member Andy Feldman recommends these smart goggles. The heads-up display is great for feedback while youre swimming, he says. They track total distance, lap splits, stroke count, and average speed, and they seem to accurately distinguish one stroke type from another. The goggles link up to a smartphone app that syncs to other popular tracking apps like Training Peaks and Strava.
To gauge how well theyve recovered from workouts, lots of top athletes (including professional basketball player Sue Bird) use the Whoop strap which measures stress, rest, and sleep. Its also a good choice for weekend warriors looking to maximize their fitness. Rex Chatterjee, creative director of the digital media firm Dune Road Lifestyle and a former competitive bodybuilder, says Whoop gives him a holistic view of his bodys current state, and Rachel Lapidos, beauty and fitness editor at Well+Good, likes how, compared to a tracker that only measures steps or distance, Whoop provides more personalized feedback on her workouts. With the recovery score, I feel like Im doing my body more of a favor, since I know that if my score is low, I should take it easy rather than push myself, and vice versa, she says.
Anthony Chavez, a master trainer at CorePower Yoga, is also a Whoop fan and, like Chatterjee, he appreciates the focus on overall health and behavior. Ive even begun to notice trends in the metrics based on how hydrated I am or how a glass (or two) of wine will affect my sleep and overall recovery the next day, he says. Andrea Fornarola, founder of the barre and dance fusion studio Elements Fitness calls the Whoop her newest obsession, and Nathan Forster, CEO and founder of the on-demand workout platform NEOU, says its also his tracker of choice. Both Jenna Arndt, director of instructor operations at Swerve, and SoulCycle master instructor Maddy Ciccone, mention Whoops strain coach, which, as Arndt explains, guides you how hard to push based on your recovery level. The Whoop strap doesnt have a display (youll have to view all your data on the app) so its better for evaluating and planning your workouts rather than getting real-time feedback.
[Editors note: In order to use a Whoop strap, you must first sign up for a monthly $30 subscription.]

Water polo playerMaggie Steffens isgearing up for the2021 Olympics.
Maggie Steffens
At age 16, when most of us were just figuring out how to merge onto the freeway, Maggie Steffens was on the U.S. Olympic water polo team.
That was 11 years ago, and Steffens had her sights set on her third Olympic tripand third gold medalthis summer, but the Monte Vista grad, like so many others, has had her dream deferred.
I knew postponing the Olympics was the right thing to do, she says, but thats not to say it didnt affect me and my teammates. I definitely went through an emotional roller coaster.
But it didnt take long for Steffens, named the best womens water polo player in the world in 2018 by Swimming World, to get back on track.
We still have our teammates and coaches, she says, and keeping them in mind helps me stay focused and motivated. Each day, I have a routine to keep my body healthy and strong, whether its running, biking, lifting, or yoga.
Steffens has always been a hard worker. This is one reason shes survived in the rough-and-tumble world of water polo, which includes so much underwater physicality that players wear two swimsuits, in case one gets torn off.
Adam Krikorian, her coach with Team USA, has no concerns about her staying in shape until she can compete again. Her work ethic and dedication set her apart, he says. Shes a professional in terms of taking care of her body.
The always-positive Steffens is already thinking about 2021. The Games are still on, our dreams are still on, and the team is still on, she says. The Olympics are just a different date.

10 Yoga Poses To Open Your Root Chakra | TheThings – TheThings
Posted: at 6:46 am
Your Root Chakra can be found at the base of the spine. It helps one feel grounded and these 10 yoga poses will help you open it up.
There are seven chakras on the human body that are used for meditation practices. These chakras are invisible wheels of energy used to release negative energies and bring in positive energies. These chakras start at the top of your head and travel down the spine to your root chakra.

A person's root chakra is found at the base of a person's spine and symbolizes being grounded and supported. Balancing one's root chakra can make a person feel centered, open, and trusting. How does a person open their root chakra and feel more firm? Scroll below to find 10 different yoga poses that can help.
A forward foldis exactly what it sounds like: standing at the foot of your mat, bend from the hips and reach for the ground. A yogi should try and get their chest as close to their thighs as they comfortably can without strain.
While taking deep breaths in and out, a person should feel this stretch in their hamstrings, lower back, and knees. It can loosen the root chakra and allow a person to feel grounded at the foot of their mat.
Bridge pose is one of those yoga exercises that is implemented in various classes and genres. While laying on the ground, bring your feet close to your body while being flat on the ground. Raise your bottom as high as you can towards the sky so that those hips are raised.

Doing this pose can release tension in a person's back while stretching the neck, hamstrings, and bum. With your feet planted safely, it's a great pose for a root chakra to feel trusted and guided.
The easy pose is one of those poses that is done by anyone who stretches (and doesn't even realize they're partaking in a yoga pose). While sitting on the ground with both legs crossed over each other, a yogi is stretching and opening their hips, lower back, chest, and knees.
The longer a person sits in this pose, the more open they'll feel and lower their legs will get to the ground. This pose is known to release stress, which makes it a fun one to do in the middle of the day to re-center.
Warrior II is one of those poses that's easily recognizable to both yogis and non-yogis alike. Standing in a lunge position, have the foot in front facing the direction in front of you while the back foot is parallel to the front.

Release those arms to the side and lean into the stretch. Keep your core tight and arms focused while doing Warrior II and a yogi will feel strong and stable, allowing the root chakra to bring in positive emotions and release the bad.
Surya Namaskar is more often referred to as sun salutations or saluting to the sun. It's an amazing sequence to do in the morning to literally welcome the day and get centered. A great part of sun salutations is that it can be done quickly to break a sweat or be done at a slower pace to feel the stretch.
Different teachers may add their own spin to sun salutations but most can start out in mountain pose before transitioning into a forward fold. From there, a yogi can kick their leg out behind them to be in a plankbefore transitioning into chaturanga, upward dog, and downward dog. The entire sequence opens the body up and can be cathartic for the root chakra.
Knees-to-chest seems like a basic posture but it's underrated at that. While lying on your back, bring both of your knees to your chest.
Grab those knees closer to your chest (almost as if you're hugging yourself) and rock back and forth, up and down, or just simply be. This is a great pose for elimination and is great if you're bloated or having stomach distress. It's also ideal to open up that root chakra as you'll feel centered being "one" with yourself.
Many yoga poses start out in child's pose and it's easy to see why. It's one of those poses that feels incredibly liberating without much work. You can have your arms stretched out in front of you, to the side, or even on the ground next to you.
Take deep breaths and feel the tension in your back and shoulders melt away. If you have your arms stretched out in front of you, you'll feel your shoulders and sides loosen up. Being close to the ground is a wonderful way to be close to the earth, thus benefiting your root chakra.
Garland pose may be difficult for new yogis but with practice comes perfection. If it's too hard to balance with your elbows in between your knees, try placing a pillow beneath you until you gain trust and flexibility with yourself.
The garland pose is a wonderful hip opener and can be an easy gateway to the root chakra. You can feel the benefits in your groin, knees, and even your ankles.
Mountain post is much more than standing. It's a pose that stretches the entire body while also getting morestable in your practice. It's a great pose to start any practice with.
With your big toes together, keep those knees soft and core tight as you center yourself. Make sure you're looking forward with a softened mouth and neck. You'll want to feel completely relaxed. To start off, a person can roll backand forth on their feet and bring their arms over their head to feel completely intuned to the earth and that root chakra.
Another way to become one with yourself and open up that root chakra is a wide-legged stretch while in a forward fold. Instead of doing a forward fold with your legs close together, you're actually going separate them while bending at the hips and bringing your head as close as you can to the ground.
A yogi can grab their feet, ankles, or a block to focus on balance. Holding this pose for 15 to 30 seconds can do wonders for a person's mood, muscles, and yes, the root chakra!
