Yoga: It’s not just for adults

One of teenagers most favorite poses in yoga is called shavasana, when they get to lie on their back with eyes closed, breathing deeply. Their entire body is relaxed, any muscular tension is consciously released as it is found and they hold this pose for at least 5 minutes.
They love the relaxation at the end, said certified Yogakids teacher Julie Daniel, who resides in Baldwinsville. Ill tell you now, teenagers like to have at least 10 minutes, which is a rather long shavasana.
Why so long, you might ask?
I never have quiet in my life, said Daniel, repeating what many kids say to her when they specifically request this pose and duration. They love it. I cover them up and put eye pillows on their eyes and sometimes I massage their necks with essential oils. Even the most active kids will say, are you going to cover us up today?
Daniel stumbled upon yoga shortly after college and took an immediate interest in the discipline. She began teaching childrens yoga at Dharma Yoga Syracuse (formerly CNY Yoga in Liverpool), after repeated requests to the owners that they should offer classes to children.
I kept saying she should have childrens yoga, said Daniel, a retired North Syracuse School District speech language pathologist. I would every now and then raise my voice and finally they took me out to tea and said weve given it a lot of thought, and we want you to do it ... I cant do it! I was honored but kind of scared.
That was about seven years ago.
Daniel researched childrens yoga online and found information on Yoga Kids, an international program that offers workshops, training and certification in teaching. Daniel completed the one-year program and became fully certified to teach and train. She also trained with Grounded Kids out of Atlanta, Ga., another program that emphasizes feelings of safety and security; feeling grounded.

Is it a laptop, a tablet, or something else entirely? Lenovo's Yoga 2 Pro is an interesting mix of form factors, hardware, and operating system, that much we know. The screen, which folds a full 360-degrees around the back of the device, is the attention grabber, but is there more to it than that? We put the Yoga 2 through its paces to find out.
What you find when you open the box is a sleek, modern build that is lighter than it looks. The Yoga 2 has clean lines, and a noticeable rubbery grip around the edges. That touch is not to gain style points; its for stability when the Yoga 2 is in various stages of use. Youll also notice the hinges, which are a bit utilitarian, but hold up well under the twists and turns we put the Yoga 2 Pro through. Bright, chrome Lenovo branding sits noticeably on the outside of the lid, while the familiar compliment of ports and buttons (dual USB, HDMI, card reader, power, volume) adorn the sides.
The Yoga 2 Pro runs the latest in Intel Haswell technology, the 4200U to be specific. Its snappy, and holds its own under strain. As GeekBench testing shows, the Yoga 2 Pro scored a mediocre 5569, well shy of our Macbook Pro Retina with a score of 8183. The dualcore Core i5 processor clocks in at 1.6GHz, offering plenty of hustle for day-to-day tasks, and 4GB RAM is a healthy amount, though an upgrade should be considered for beefier tasks.
Open the Yoga 2 Pro up, and youre met with another interesting style consideration: the area around the keyboard and trackpad keep the rubberized material we found on the outer edges of the device. A bit odd, this is another choice Lenovo made to make the tablet a bit more useful when not in Laptop mode. The keyboard and trackpad are clean and modern, but we wish they were bigger. The keyboard is terribly small, with the right shift key particularly hard to find. The keyboard is backlit, and has good key travel, but its not quite what wed like for a laptop.
The trackpad is quite small as well. Its glassy and smooth, making it easy for fingers to glide over, but the limited real estate is once again bothersome, especially when the native trackpad gestures for Windows get in the way. Unlike other touchscreen Ultrabooks, we found ourselves reaching for the screen out of necessity, not want.
The 13.3-inch screen is bright, and appears much larger than it is. The touchscreen capabilities are responsive, and a big step up from the first wave of Windows touchscreen Ultrabooks. The only issue we have is the native 3200 x 1800 resolution, which compacts most things to unreadable proportions. Youll probably feel at ease with a 2048 x 1152 resolution instead, which at least makes text readable and scales webpages properly. When outside of the native resolution, though, things do start to appear grainy.

Yoga instructor Alain Benitez has joined a growing number of teachers offering classes exclusively for men, Rep-Am.com reported December 8th. The article, Men strike a pose in yoga classes just for them, noted that there is often a gender imbalance in yoga classes, partly due to the perception that yoga is for women and partly because womens bodies adapt to the yoga poses more easily. This is why Benitez has set up a class specifically for men, so as to address mens specific yogic needs. Benitez explained, We have specific limitations. Our broader shoulders do not help with balance. Our minds race a little bit faster. We have a hard time getting into a meditative state. However, no matter how productive all that desk time is, it can cause aches, strain and tension in every muscle in your body, and you may need a hard-earned yoga break. Stopping to strike a pose can help you to relieve that stress, and get your overall wellness back on track to tackle the rest of the long workday. 1. Konasana. Also known as the right angle pose, konasana is a simple and effective way to relieve a tight back and legs. It works to open and stretch hamstrings and calves, elongate the spine and torso and strengthen arms. 2. Vidalasana: Otherwise titled the Cat-Cow pose, the vidalasana gently massages the spine, and opens the upper back, chest and shoulder areas. 3. Deep breathing: Deep breathing frees the mind, opens the senses and gives a feeling of self-sufficiency.

EVOLUTIONARY SPIRITUALITY | Foundation for Conscious Evolution

There is arising a new spirituality, experienced as a form of evolutionary consciousness. This consciousness is three-fold: Backward, Inward, and Forward.
It reaches backward in time and identifies itself as the whole process of creation, recognizing that within our atoms, molecules, cells, organs, brain is the whole story of creation. At the same time, this evolutionary consciousness looks inward to Source, to Pure Awareness, to Oneness and holds that as its center. And then it looks forward, yearning to express the creative impulse within, in spirit-motivated action on behalf of the evolution of the self and the world.
Evolutionary spirituality opens up the path of the cocreator. It is not a new religion. It is a new person. Its purpose and practices are to incarnate the Great Creating Process, to discover deeper life purpose, and to express that purpose through joining with others in the cocreation of a new world.
New Thought and Conscious Evolution
Conscious Evolution/New Thought (CE/NT) is a new initiative started by Barbara and Reverend Jim Lockard to create a synthesis between the principles and practices of New Thought, and those of Conscious Evolution.
New Thought is an over-a-century-old initiative to reframe Christianity around the recognition that God is within us. This point of view has given birth to Religious Science and Unity churches among others, and is at the forefront of the new evolutionary spirituality.
Conscious Evolution as a frame of reference is very aligned with New Thought principles. A synthesis of these perspectives will enhance the effectiveness of both initiatives in the 21st century, and a curriculum and new materials are in the works.
Some of this development is to be presented for the first time at the Association for Global New Thought (AGNT) conference to be held in Palm Springs October 3-7. Barbaras Institute titled Experiencing the Communion of Pioneering Souls is planned for October 5.
