Squats and lunges will never not be part of leg day, but if you need a fresh way to work your lower-body, its time for us to introduce you to something that challenges your muscles and your mindset in equal measureyoga for legs.

Yoga might not be the first thing that comes to mind for challenging leg workouts, but trust us, its a game-changer. The practice doesnt just build physical strength, but mental strength as well, says Paige Willis, RYT-200, certified yoga instructor and founder of Undone, a pop-up yoga experience.

While its different from your typical leg day, building strength in yoga requires you to engage multiple muscle groups at a time and move with a wide range of motion, she says. Think of standing poses like chair pose and crescent lunge, where you have to engage the muscles in your lower body to find stability. If you hold these poses for several rounds of breath, you invite endurance into the equation, along with strength.

For April 2024, weve asked her to host our Movement of the Month Club, focusing on yoga. And in Week 2, were focusing on lower-body yoga poses. Below, Willis demonstrates six poses that not only strengthen key lower-body muscles (glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings, and calves) but also improve your stability in ways that traditional workouts might miss.

If youre following along with our Movement of the Month Club, youll do one pose each day, Monday through Saturday. Then on Sunday, youll combine all the asanas together into a full 5-minute flow.

Do each pose for 50 seconds (25 seconds on each side, where necessary) before moving on to the next one, for a total of 5 minutes. If youre feeling especially tight or if you have more time, feel free to do each move for as long as feels good.

This pose strengthens your lower body (particularly your quadriceps and glutes) and challenges your balance, stability, and focus, while helping improve knee and ankle mobility.

Just like lunges you may do at the gym, this yoga lunge variation helps strengthen your lower body (glutes, quadriceps, and hamstrings), as well as your abdominal muscles.

Keep a wall nearby in case you lose balance in this pose, which can be challenging. Standing figure 4 (a.k.a. single-leg chair) turns up the level of difficulty for one-legged mountain, making your standing leg stronger and stretching the hips and glutes of your raised leg.

Welcome Villain Films, the genre studio that released last years Malum, has announced their latest acquisition: the supernatural screenlife horror shocker Mind Body Spirit. The film, directed by by Alex Henes and Matthew Merenda, is set to screen at the Unnamed Footage Festival on Sunday, March 31. It will get a release across digital platforms on May 7.

According to the official synopsis, the film follows Anya (Sarah J. Bartholomew), an aspiring yoga influencer, as she embarks on a ritual practice left behind by her estranged grandmother. What starts as a spiritual self-help guide quickly evolves into something much more sinister. As Anya becomes obsessed with the mysterious power of the practice, she unwittingly unleashes an otherworldly entity that begins to take control of her life and her videos. Now Anya must race to unlock the truth, before her descent into madness threatens to consume her mind, body and spirit. Finally, the frightening truth behind doing too much yoga.

The movie premiered at the Telluride Horror Show. Since then it has toured several festivals across the country, resulting in audiences becoming more nimble and flexible in fear!

Mind Body Spirit is such a creative blend of wellness and horror, and really feels fresh and exciting for the genre, which makes it a perfect fit for the Welcome Villain family, said Luke LaBeau, Welcome Villain Films head of development, in an official statement. Screenlife is the subgenre where events are shown primarily on a computer, tablet or smart phone. It should never move outside the screen, with the camera movements only mimicking what is possible on that device. Films that follow the format include Unfriended, Searching, Dashcam and Open Windows.

Mind Body Spirit was directed by Henes and Merenda; the two also co-wrote the film with Topher Hendricks. It was produced by Dan Asma and Jesse McClung. Bartholomew stars alongside Madi Bready, Kristi Noory, KJ Flahive and Anna Knigge.

AUSTRALIA (CNN/CNN Newsource/WKRC) - The suspect of an alleged break-in at a bakery appeared to perform a yoga routine.

According to CNN, a bakery store owner was left baffled after a break-in. It wasn't by what was taken, but instead, by the bizarre routine that was captured on surveillance video in the parking lot.

The suspect performed what appears to be a yoga routine before allegedly breaking into the bakery in Australia.

Authorities told CNN that the woman did a series of stretches before she allegedly busted in. Police told the network that no cash was taken, but said several almond croissants came up missing, along with an iPad, a pair of shoes and some cleaning products.

The bakery released the surveillance video, along with a theory, claiming their treats were too tempting for the burglar.

The suspect has since been arrested.

Here are the five asanas you need to try, as prescribed by Rolla:

Chakki Chalanasana: This includes circular movements of the body and helps improve digestion along with the flexibility of the spine.

Baddha Konasana: Also known as the butterfly pose, this asana stimulates the reproductive organs by opening up the hips and groin.

Supta Baddha Konasana: This is a reclined variation of the baddha konasana, giving your inner thighs a deeper stretch to help relax the area.

Bharadvajasana: This asana aids digestion and detoxification of the body through a seated spinal twist, stretching the spine, shoulders, and hips.

Bhujangasana: Commonly known as the cobra pose, it strengthens the spine, opens up the chest, and improves flexibility, helping you let go of stress and energising the body.

In addition to the above asanas, Rolla stresses that pranayama or breathing exercises coupled with relaxation exercises should also be practiced daily for better results. She mentions the following techniques:

Abdominal breathing: Promotes better breathing habits and oxygenates the whole body.

Anuloma viloma pranayama: Pranayama yoga helps to enhance the oxygenated blood supply to the brain which in turn helps to restore the hormonal balance.

Savasana: Promotes deep relaxation and reduces cortisol levels in the body.
