The human mind is complex it perceives things differently according to our beliefs and thought patterns. This unique part of our body gives us the insights and mental prowess to go through life by utilizing our own abilities to survive and adapt. But if you want to live life to the fullest then you better let your creative juices flow to come up with great ideas for self-improvement in both your personal life and career.

Everyone has the capacity to be creative, as long as they dont put a limit to their capability to think and to accept new ideas from the outside. But there are certain hindrances that stop the flow of creative juices on our brain and here are some ideas on how to burst the dam and let the creative you show itself to the world.

Get Rid Of Your Stress

Stress is one of the hindrances in letting your creative juices flow out of you. In most cases, our problems, fears, inhibitions, physical exhaustion, or even our emotions can become a hurdle that stops our mind from thinking anything beside the problem.

Stress management can help get rid of this problem and let your mind relax to boost your creativity. It also helps you focus your eyes on an object that gives you comfort or that can help you relax. You might also want to indulge in your favorite activities to help you get rid of negative thoughts that stop your brain from being creative.

Expand Your Repertoire

Using your own stock knowledge may not be enough to guarantee a fresh flow of creative juices to run through your head. If you want to get some good ideas then you better get out of your hiding-hole and look at your surroundings to get some good thoughts to enter your head. Visit the local park, mall hopping, or even visit your friends to get you in the right mood.

Do What You Want To Do

Get in touch with your hobbies and favorites to help your brain relax and let it do what it is accustomed of doing. You can draw, sing, or even compose a new melody on your piano to help your mind focus on the task at hand. Fresh ideas do come out when you are focused on a specific goal so you better think of what you want to do and start doing it to train your mind to be creative.

Voice Out Your Thoughts

It might help if you come up with ideas while voicing it out loud. You dont need an audience; you just need to listen to your own voice to help your mind focus on the task at hand. It would also help to have someone to talk to and help you come up with creative ideas.

As the famous saying goes 2 heads are better than 1 so you might want to ask some of your few friends for a serious brainstorming session while having fun in the process to avoid stressing yourself out.

Reading And Watching Television

Reading is a great way to exercise your mind to think. If youre reading fantasy novels or short stories, you might notice that your mind visualizes the flow of the story as you read each line. You can easily get new ideas out of your head when it is in this state so give it a try if you want to come up with creative concepts for your goal. Television is also a great way to refresh your brain with new ideas to add to your creativity. Feel free to jump from one channel to another until you find a show that catches your attention. Relax and focus and let your mind wander as you enjoy a comfortable time watching.

Dont force the creativity to come out. In truth, doing so would only give you a headache when you push your brain to its limits. Try to relax and let your thoughts wander; focus on it as if youre watching a movie, and let it do all the work while your body is complete and total rest.

Empowerment – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Empowerment refers to increasing the economic, political, social, educational or spiritual strength of an entity or entities.[according to whom?]

Robert Adams points to the limitations of any single definition of 'empowerment', and the danger that academic or specialist definitions might take away the word and the connected practices from the very people they are supposed to belong to.[1] Still, he offers a minimal definition of the term: 'Empowerment: the capacity of individuals, groups and/or communities to take control of their circumstances, exercise power and achieve their own goals, and the process by which, individually and collectively, they are able to help themselves and others to maximize the quality of their lives.'[2]

Sociological empowerment often addresses members of groups that social discrimination processes have excluded from decision-making processes through - for example - discrimination based on disability, race, ethnicity, religion, or gender. Empowerment as a methodology is often associated with feminism: see consciousness-raising.

"Marginalized" refers to the overt or covert trends within societies whereby those perceived as lacking desirable traits or deviating from the group norms tend to be excluded by wider society and ostracized as undesirables.

Sometimes groups are marginalized by society at large, but governments are often unwitting or enthusiastic participants. This Act made it illegal to restrict access to schools and public places based on race. Equal opportunity laws which actively oppose such marginalization, allow increased empowerment to occur. They are also a symptom of minorities' and women's empowerment through lobbying.

Marginalized people who lack self-sufficiency become, at a minimum, dependent on charity, or welfare. They lose their self-confidence because they cannot be fully self-supporting. The opportunities denied them also deprive them of the pride of accomplishment which others, who have those opportunities, can develop for themselves. This in turn can lead to psychological, social and even mental health problems.

Empowerment is the process of obtaining basic opportunities for marginalized people, either directly by those people, or through the help of non-marginalized others who share their own access to these opportunities. It also includes actively thwarting attempts to deny those opportunities. Empowerment also includes encouraging, and developing the skills for, self-sufficiency, with a focus on eliminating the future need for charity or welfare in the individuals of the group. This process can be difficult to start and to implement effectively.

One empowerment strategy is to assist marginalized people to create their own nonprofit organization, using the rationale that only the marginalized people, themselves, can know what their own people need most, and that control of the organization by outsiders can actually help to further entrench marginalization. Charitable organizations lead from outside of the community, for example, can disempower the community by entrenching a dependence charity or welfare. A nonprofit organization can target strategies that cause structural changes, reducing the need for ongoing dependence. Red Cross, for example, can focus on improving the health of indigenous people, but does not have authority in its charter to install water-delivery and purification systems, even though the lack of such a system profoundly, directly and negatively impacts health. A nonprofit composed of the indigenous people, however, could ensure their own organization does have such authority and could set their own agendas, make their own plans, seek the needed resources, do as much of the work as they can, and take responsibility - and credit - for the success of their projects (or the consequences, should they fail).

The process of which enables individuals/groups to fully access personal or collective power, authority and influence, and to employ that strength when engaging with other people, institutions or society. In other words, Empowerment is not giving people power, people already have plenty of power, in the wealth of their knowledge and motivation, to do their jobs magnificently. We define empowerment as letting this power out."[3] It encourages people to gain the skills and knowledge that will allow them to overcome obstacles in life or work environment and ultimately, help them develop within themselves or in the society.

To empower a female "...sounds as though we are dismissing or ignoring males, but the truth is, both genders desperately need to be equally empowered."[4] Empowerment occurs through improvement of conditions, standards, events, and a global perspective of life.

Legal empowerment happens when marginalised people or groups use the legal mobilisation i.e., law, legal systems and justice mechanisms to improve or transform their social, political or economic situations. Legal empowerment approaches are interested in understanding how they can use the law to advance interests and priorities of the marginalised.[5]

According to 'Open society foundations' (an NGO) "Legal empowerment is about strengthening the capacity of all people to exercise their rights, either as individuals or as members of a community. Legal empowerment is about grass root justice, about ensuring that law is not confined to books or courtrooms, but rather is available and meaningful to ordinary people.[6]

Lorenzo Cotula in his book ' Legal Empowerment for Local Resource Control ' outlines the fact that legal tools for securing local resource rights are enshrined in legal system, does not necessarily mean that local resource users are in position to use them and benefit from them. The state legal system is constrained by a range of different factors - from lack of resources to cultural issues. Among these factors economic, geographic, linguistic and other constraints on access to courts, lack of legal awareness as well as legal assistance tend to be recurrent problems.[7]

In many context, marginalised groups do not trust the legal system owing to the widespread manipulation that it has historically been subjected to by the more powerful. 'To what extent one knows the law, and make it work for themselves with 'para legal tools', is legal empowerment; assisted utilizing innovative approaches like legal literacy and awareness training, broadcasting legal information, conducting participatory legal discourses, supporting local resource user in negotiating with other agencies and stake holders and to strategies combining use of legal processes with advocacy along with media engagement, and socio legal mobilisation.[7]

The growing access of the web in the late 20th century, has allowed women to empower themselves by using various tools on the Internet. With the introduction of the World Wide Web, women have begun to use social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to start online activism.[8] Through online activism, women are able to empower themselves by organizing campaigns and voicing their opinions for equality rights without feeling oppressed by members of society.[9] For example, on May 29, 2013, an online campaign started by 100 female advocates forced the leading social networking website, Facebook, to take down various pages that spread hatred about women.[10]

In recent years, blogging has also become a powerful tool for the educational empowerment of women. According to a study done by the University of California, Los Angeles, medical patients who read and write about their disease are often in a much happier mood and more knowledgeable than those who do not.[11] By reading others' experiences, patients can better educate themselves and apply strategies that their fellow bloggers suggest.[11]

With the easy accessibility and affordability of e-learning (electronic learning), women can now study from the comfort of their home anywhere, anytime.[12] By empowering themselves educationally through new technologies like e-learning, women are also learning new skills that will come in handy in today's advancing globalized world.

Most women across the globe rely on the informal work sector for an income.[13] If women were empowered to do more and be more, the possibility for economic growth becomes apparent. Empowering women in developing countries is essential to reduce global poverty since women represent most of the worlds poor population.[14] Eliminating a significant part of a nations work force on the sole basis of gender can have detrimental effects on the economy of that nation.[15] In addition, female participation in counsels, groups, and businesses is seen to increase efficiency.[16] For a general idea on how an empowered women can impact a situation monetarily, a study found that of Fortune 500 companies, those with more women board directors had significantly higher financial returns, including 53 percent higher returns on equity, 24 percent higher returns on sales and 67 percent higher returns on invested capital (OECD, 2008).[17] This study shows the impact women can have on the overall economic benefits of a company. If implemented on a global scale, the inclusion of women in the formal workforce (like a Fortune 500 company) can increase the economic output of a nation. Therefore, women can also help businesses grow and economies prosper if they have, and if they are able to use, the right knowledge and skills in their employment.

Many of the barriers to women's empowerment and equity lie ingrained in cultural norms. Many women feel these pressures, while others have become accustomed to being treated inferior to men.[18] Even if men, legislators, NGOs, etc. are aware of the benefits women's empowerment and participation can have, many are scared of disrupting the status quo and continue to let societal norms get in the way of development.[19]

Research shows that the increasing access to the internet can also result in an increased exploitation of women.[8] Releasing personal information on websites has put some women's personal safety at risk. In 2010, Working to Halt Online Abuse stated that 73% of women were victimized through such sites.[20] Types of victimization include cyber stalking, harassment, online pornography, and flaming.[21]

Recent studies also show that women face more barriers in the workplace than do men. Gender-related barriers involve sexual harassment, unfair hiring practices, career progression, and unequal pay where women are paid less than men are for performing the same job.[22] Such barriers make it difficult for women to advance in their workplace or receive fair compensation for the work they provide.

The UK's Department for International Development are working to address constraints to the empowerment of adolescent girls in developing countries. Researchers mapped organisations that competitively seek innovative ideas from both the private and non-profit sectors potentially to reach girls, youth and/or women in developing country contexts and provides support in the forms of finance and technical assistance to bring their ideas to market.[23]

According to Thomas A Potterfield,[24] many organizational theorists and practitioners regard employee empowerment as one of the most important and popular management concepts of our time.

Ciulla discusses an inverse case: that of bogus empowerment.[25]

In the book Empowerment Takes More Than a Minute, the authors illustrate three keys that organizations can use to open the knowledge, experience, and motivation power that people already have.[3] The three keys that managers must use to empower their employees are:

According to author Stewart, in her book Empowering People she describes that in order to guarantee a successful work environment, managers need to exercise the right kind of authority (p.6). To summarize, empowerment is simply the effective use of a managers authority, and subsequently, it is a productive way to maximize all-around work efficiency.

These keys are hard to put into place and it is a journey to achieve empowerment in a workplace. It is important to train employees and make sure they have trust in what empowerment will bring to a company.[3]

In economic development, the empowerment approach focuses on mobilizing the self-help efforts of the poor, rather than providing them with social welfare. Economic empowerment is also the empowering of previously disadvantaged sections of the population, for example, in many previously colonized African countries.[26]

What is Empowerment, why is it so important, how do I get it?

Posted: at 5:03 am

Self-empowerment in its simplest form means taking charge of your own life, in your work place, with your colleagues, with your subordinates, with your superiors, with your body, with your illness and for you caring for yourself. Well this sounds obvious but how come most of us dont do it. The reason for this is that we dont have the full understanding of how to do it properly or even what it means. We seem to rely on some sort of gut instinct or thought pattern within us, that we think this is the way it should be done. When we find out through some experience that, that is not so. we become confused, feel angry, feel hurt, indignant, feel rejected, feel not good enough, etc, etc. The list is endless. So what is the answer? Well lets look at it this way if you had the knowledge and understanding of what and how to do, then you would know how to do things so that they dont blow up in your face. But in order to do this, one needs knowledge of some sort. Another way of putting it is to say that self-empowered individuals do not give away their power or allow others to infantilize them, they use it appropriately. But to do this, one has to own and know your own power and be able to access it and use it appropriately. But how do you that?

The first thing to know is that we all have it, each and every one of us. The only difference between those who own and know their power and use it appropriately and those that dont, is the internal belief system that they have, that they cant have that power.

Ok, if I accept that, then how do I look at my belief systems, or even for that matter find them and overcome them. This is relatively easy and there are many articles on this web site that will help you and give pointers. Please see the articles suggested at the bottom of this article.

Well the first thing to do is, when a situation arises that you have a reaction to be it anything then it is to see where is that feeling in my body, what does it feel like. Try to imagine what it feels like. Once you have that feeling of what it feels like then have a good look at it and trace it back in your life to the first time that you felt like that.

Then have a look at what was going on at the time. What were the circumstances, what was happening to you, what you took on about yourself that did not encourage you to have power, be in your power, to be authentic, that I gave away my power. Your reaction in the present moment is that moment from the past that you are reliving now when the circumstance came up.

In this past moment lies the gem/s for you to ponder on, and overcome. Herein lies the answers that you have been looking for. If you cant do it for yourself then get someone who is specialised to help you to get the answers and understanding for you. Once you have overcome that hurdle, you will have started to build knowledge about yourself and how you operate. When the next similar event comes up then you will be empowered to overcome that similar kind of situation, and will not react negatively. You will be able to handle that particular situation easily.

If you do this exercise over and over again every time you have a reaction to anything, you will build up huge knowledge about yourself. Through this methodology you will eventually overcome all of your reactions. As you do this more and more you will overcome your fears that were holding you back, making you feel dis-empowered. When you have reached that stage you would have become rather powerful or empowered in your own right.

Example Lets look at an example to try and illustrate our point. In our country (South Africa) with the problem of HIV / AIDS. Now people with HIV/AIDS have a typical victim consciousness about them, they feel totally dis-empowered. Ok so how did this come about? Looking at the typical person who has HIV / AIDS, they are generally the ones who have been the victims of society. The have been subjected to negative authority experiences, negative societal experiences, negative cultural experiences, negative cultural experiences, negative home and family life experiences, negative environmental experiences, one being living in townships being imposed on them telling them what and what not to do. This is what I call victim consciousness in this article. They have not been encouraged to think for themselves, in fact just the opposite, they were told not to think. Just do as they were told.

They are subjected to the medical system that is also completely dis-empowering. They are subject to an economic system where they are generally the down trodden one, the abused one, where they have to irk out a measly living etc. etc. From their point of view they see life as hard, that they dont deserve, that they are not good enough, that they are never encouraged to be better, they must just accept the life situation as it is. This then has become a life long pattern for them and they think that this is the way life is and never actually challenge it. They think that this is their lot this is how the dice fell and there is nothing they can do about it. They feel a victim. This is nothing else than a learned behaviour a kind of conditioning. Now look at the symbolism of this and how it is reflected in their disease. Their immune system becomes compromised and they become powerless to defend themselves against disease entering into their body. In my practice I have not yet come across anyone who has the disease that does not have a pattern of victim consciousness in them somewhere.

In order for those who have HIV / AIDS, they need to learn to view themselves as the experts about what they need and what is involved in taking care of themselves. They need to learn to become empowered. Once this attitude develops, the people with AIDS (PWA) will need to be quite vocal about what his or her needs are. Unfortunately, this often has the effect of making other people uncomfortable around the person living with HIV/AIDS.

Be the Expert About Your Own Life The concept of being the expert about your own life is one that many people have some difficulty in seeing and understanding. Let me explain. We all have been raised to believe that a physician knows what's best for our health; a priest, minister or rabbi what's best for us spiritually; a therapist what's best for us emotionally or mentally. Thus, traditionally an expert has been someone else whom we were taught to defer to and trust unconditionally. Questioning the opinions of these experts was not encouraged. The blind acceptance of authority has been a fundamental component of the existing power structures in this society (and in most others as well). This has now become a learned behaviour which in turn has become our own belief system. This belief system is what runs our lives for ever more until we decide to challenge it and then change it within ourselves. Now when these belief systems become ignited in us, in a life situation, where the person is required to act in his power they feel that they cant (feel powerless) and that they have no right to. Thus they react in a powerless type manner / in a victim type manner and so become submissive, powerless, non challenging, accepting etc etc and so the cycle goes on.

Empowerment Empowerment means to gain knowledge and understanding. Self empowerment means to gain knowledge and understanding of the self. Think of it like this. If you knew absolutely nothing about a car and its inner workings, and the car broke down somewhere far from home. You would have no idea what to do to fix the car, so that you can go on. Yet if you had a good knowledge and understanding of the car and its inner workings then you could figure out what needs to be done, get the tools and spares to do it, and fix it. In this situation you would be empowered (feel empowered) for you would know what to do to get yourself going again. You would not just sit in the car and wait for someone to come and sort out the problem for you.

So self-empowerment means to gain knowledge over the Self. In a similar way that you would have gained knowledge and understanding on the inner workings of the car.

So what does this mean? It is essential to gain knowledge of how we all work. What happens on the inside, what are the mechanisms that play and how do they affect our lives. This is a study on its own. Some of the articles listed below and on this web site will give you a broad understanding. Then the next stage would be to find out and understand where did our personal belief systems come from. Once we understand that then we can have a look at the interaction of the two, and see how they run our lives, and how we attract certain events into our lives that reinforce our personal belief systems. This is in line with one of the universal laws that states, that which is on the inside will be reflected on the outside. So to put it in terms of the HIV / AIDS example above if you are feeling a victim on the inside, then on the outside, will reflect your real life situation.

Another Example Let me give you another example of a child in an upmarket home, who has everything done for them, everything is given to them and they never lack for anything. They are used to just giving orders and getting what they want. This kind of child then grows up and goes out into the working world carrying this experience with them. This is their belief system about the world and the way it operates. They expect to be able to carry on the same kind of life style they were used to when they were growing up. They suddenly find that they are in constant conflict with their co workers, their subordinates and superiors. They cant understand why and what is going on that life does not work like that. From the outside looking in we can easily see what is going on but from the inside of the person they have no idea they think that this is the way that life should be and that is how they think they should operate. They cant see why people are in conflict with them. They simply have no idea.

And so we can go on and on with examples of life.

Empowerment Characteristics So lets define and discuss empowerment and in particular self empowerment. Lets start with empowerment. Empowerment is probably the totality of the following or similar capabilities:

Self empowerment means then to have the personal knowledge and belief in self to be able to perform any or all of the above. A self empowered person reflects within themselves a feeling of self confidence that is demonstrated by the following qualities;

We at the Self Empowerment and Development Centre have programs where we teach you to discover first of all how you work on the inside, then we also offer processes for you to find out what your belief systems are that are subconsciously operating in your life. Self Empowerment Exercise – Inspired Personal Development

Here's an eye opening self empowerment exercise to help you take a quick inventory of your values, priorities and goals. It's a great little 'check up' to see where your priorities are taking you, and if they are helping you travel in the direction of your dreams.

"When you realise that every action you take is based on your own priorities, you realise the vast power that is in your own hands." YOU are the WIND

Just work through the 6 Steps below. As you'll see at the end of the exercise, you can go back to number 3 and work through this exercise in any area of your life.

What are 10 of the top values you have been honouring in your life? Your highest values are primary qualities that you most want to have in your life. You base your decisions on these, and they determine your behaviours, how you relate to others, and the actions you take. Identifying these will help you to appreciate your existing self empowerment... it's you who gets to decide what values you want to live by.

There are hundreds of possible values, from achievement to zeal, and every letter in between. List 10 that speak loudly to you.

Prioritize the 10 highest values you have identified, with #1 being the most important to you.

Now take a little inventory of where your life is at in this moment regarding 'a close personal relationship with a significant other'. Examples of taking a brief stock in this category might be:

I'm in a long term loving relationship and am very happy;

I'm in a long term relationship and not very happy;

I'm single and want a happy relationship;

I'm single and very happily so

Then browse over your list of 10 top values and see if you can identify which of your chosen values might be contributing to your 'present personal relationship status'.

Next, state what your optimum 'personal relationship status' goal would be in a perfect world.

Now, think about how your values might re-organize or change if you want to give relationship priorities greater weight. Would doing so be helpful to achieve your highest vision of a personal relationship in your life? In consideration of this, you might also like to review some literature on what is important in the type of relationship you envision. ex. Love as a Way of Life by Gary Chapman

This is a simple yet powerful self empowerment exercise.

It can help with your holistic personal development in any area of your life that you would like to examine a bit more closely.

Just go back to Step 3, and instead of taking inventory of where your life is at regarding 'a close personal relationship' try it in these various areas:

Work and career

Income and financial

Physical and health

Mind and learning

Social community

Spiritual experience

When you do these exercises, you'll be following the threads that show you the reasons as to why your life looks as it does. You can be thrilled to see these connections, and to know they are in your power to change!

"I've gone through life believing in the strength and competence of others; never in my own. Now, dazzled, I discover that my capacities are real. It's like finding a fortune in the lining of an old coat." Joan Mills

Hypnotherapy can help alleviate the symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety is a human emotion experienced by everyone and if you imagine a scale of 1 to 100, where 1 is very low and 100 is very high, our anxiety levels are on that scale somewhere at all times. Sometimes we may be veering towards the upper end, other times we may move towards the lower end. For some people, anxiety can be particularly prevalent and they may feel that they are towards the top end of the scale for a lot of the time and are finding it hard to control this. Read more .

World Affairs / Conscious Evolution
Date: 08-02-11
Host: George Noory
Guests:

In the latter half, visionary, social pioneer and author Barbara Marx Hubbard discussed the idea of conscious evolution, and how humankind must evolve or face extinction. She suggested that evolution can occur by choice rather chance, and while many are focused on doom & gloom 2012 scenarios, she presented a hopeful vision of our future. "I think we're seeing the emergence of a universal species...we're going to have extended life, extended intelligence, extended contact throughout the universe, that we'll be freed up from repetitive labor...and the species itself will evolve into a co-created humanity... But if we don't, if we stay self-centered, separate, competitive, overpopulating and polluting, we won't make it," she stated.
We're seeing a breakthrough of more people becoming conscious of god, super-nature, spirit, or tendency of higher order-- a transcending impulse of higher evolution, she continued. Hubbard, now 81, shared some of the fascinating paths in her life, how she turned from a housewife into a "futurist," her relationship with Buckminster Fuller, and details of her run for Vice President in 1984 (Neale Donald Walsch recently penned a biography of Hubbard called The Mother of Invention).
