Theistic Evolution & Evolutionary Creationism

By Austin Cline

Creationism vs. Evolution:

Creationism does not have to be incompatible with evolution; there are many who believe in a creator god(s) and who also accept evolution. They may have deistic beliefs and believe a god started everything then let it run without interference. Theistic Evolution encompasses theism, some system of traditional religious beliefs, and the idea that a god or gods used evolution to develop life on earth.

What is Theistic Evolution?

Theistic evolutionists vary in how they believe their god intervened in the evolutionary process because those beliefs are connected to subtle details of other theological positions. They accept modern science on the fact that evolution occurs and how it occurs, but they rely on their god to explain things currently unexplained by science (like the origin of life) or outside the purview of science (like the origin of the soul).

What is Evolutionary Creationism?

There is little difference between Evolutionary Creationism and Theistic Evolution the only reason the term seems to exist is the theological importance of emphasizing the term Creationism rather than Evolution.

Theistic Evolution and Religion:

Theistic evolution is currently the position which is promoted by the Catholic Church, mainline Protestant denominations, Reform and Conservative Judaism, and other religious organizations which do not adopt a literalist position with regards to their scriptures and/or religious traditions. If God is somehow involved in the evolution process, what role does he play?

Theistic Evolutionists generally take one of three positions:

God controls apparently random events:

Modern science has revealed that what was once thought to be a deterministic universe has a random or probabilistic aspect at the quantum level. Quantum systems are, in one way or another, intrinsically unpredictable. This has provided an opening for some theologians and philosophers to argue that God operates in our world without also violating any natural laws. God directs the motion of matter an energy towards an end which he desires, but in a manner which seems unpredictable and random.

God designed the system:

The idea that God continues to be active in the natural world, but on the quantum level, suggests to many that God needs to keep tinkering with nature in order to get things to turn out as he wants. This, however, can be theologically unacceptable and has led some to adopt the position that God designed the universe right at the beginning to generate certain predetermined results (like human life). Constant interference outside of some important miracles isnt necessary.

God influences events:

This final possibility argues that God is always present and active in the universe, but doesnt control events or force them towards any particular outcome. Instead, God exerts influence on events in order to lead them to a desired outcome but the possibility exists that a different and undesired outcome may result. This position is often associated with Process Theology, a school of thought which portrays God not as omnipotent, but as learning and growing as the universe develops.

Problems With Theistic Evolution:

One of the problems for Theistic Evolution has been something known as the Neo-Darwinian Synthesis. Begun in the 1940s, this was a synthesis of the work being done by field biologists on the one hand and experimental work performed by geneticists on the other. This process managed to eliminate many of the mysteries in how evolution and natural selection work.

Why is this a problem? Traditionally, Theistic Evolution has relied on the idea that evolutionary theory hasnt been able to explain how evolution works. These mysteries were gaps in our understanding of nature and, as has happened so often in the relationship between religion and science, religious belief relied upon gaps in scientific knowledge which have become all but filled. Once those gaps are indeed filled, what is the basis for continuing religious belief and continuing Theistic Evolution?

What Is Modern Evolutionary Synthesis? – Definition

Definition:

The Theory of Evolution has itself evolved quite a bit since the time when Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace first came up with the theory. Much more data has been discovered and collected over the years that have only helped to enhance and sharpen the idea that species change over time.

The modern synthesis of the theory of evolution combines several different scientific disciplines and their overlapping findings.

The original theory of evolution was based mostly upon the work of Naturalists. The modern synthesis has the benefit of many years of research in Genetics and Paleontology, among other various subjects under the Biology umbrella.

The actual modern synthesis is a collaboration of a large body of work from such celebrated scientists as J.B.S. Haldane, Ernst Mayr, and Theodosius Dobzhansky. While some current scientists assert that Evo-Devo is also a part of the modern synthesis, most agree it has so far played a very slight role in the overall synthesis.

While most of Darwin's ideas are still very much present in the modern evolutionary synthesis, there are some fundamental differences now that more data and new disciplines have been studied. This does not, in any way, take away from the importance of Darwin's contribution and, in fact, it only helps support most of the ideas Darwin put forth in his book On the Origin of Species. The three main differences between the original Theory of Evolution through Natural Selection proposed by Charles Darwin and the most current Modern Evolutionary Synthesis are as follows:

Thanks to years of dedicated research by scientists across many disciplines, we now have a much better understanding of how evolution works and a more accurate picture of the change species undergo over a period of time. Even though different facets of evolutionary theory have changed, the fundamental ideas are still intact and just as relevant today as they were in the 1800s.

Review

Allan Kardec's books have played an historic role in the development of several spiritual healing traditions, yet they are virtually unknown to the American public. (This book) attempts to rectify this situation. It is thoroughly researched and thoughtfully written. Many of Kardec's insights seem surprisingly contemporary, even though he wrote them in the 1800s. Numerous spiritist centers base much of their diagnosis and treatment on Kardec's pioneering discussion of what is now called "Energy Medicine". -- Stanley Krippner, PhD. Co-author, "Becoming Psychic" and "Extraordinary Dreams"

Dr. Bragdon is on the leading edge of issues that must be addressed if we are going to realize a transformation in the ways in which health care is currently conceptualized and delivered. The future lies in the development of capacities which lie latent within all of us, and in technology which is more commesurate with recent scientific developments. Dr. Bragdon's book is an important step in that direction. -- Jeffrey Rediger, MD, MDiv. Harvard Medical School, Cambridge, MA.

Health professionals in the West have become much more open to including spirituality in clinical work. While Kardec's approach cannot be transferred en toto to contemporary medicine and psychotherapy, Dr. Bragdon's cross-cultural study of Brazilian Spiritists is a rich resource for seeing how spiritual healing can be taught and practiced. -- David Lukoff, PhD. Professor of Psychology, Saybrook Graduate School

We are not just this body, or mind, or feelings. We are essentially the eternal spirit that has no end. I honor Bradon's great respect for other cultural approaches and can quite clearly see a new spirituality coming from Brazil that will lead our world towards deep healing through a renewal of the teachings of Christ. -- Marilyn Feldberg Founder and Director of World Youth Service and Enterprise

Written with insight and sensitivity, this book is an extraordinary introduction to the rich wellness tradition of Brazilian Spiritists. Authentic and lasting body wellness comes with a sound and well adjusted spirit. Dr. Bragdon captured the essence of this grassroots model that will one day transform our medical care environment. A book that has strength and soul. -- John Zerio, President of the Allan Kardec Educational Society

What a wonderful journey I've had exploring these Spiritist Centers--especially meeting the people who attend them, and meeting the leaders in this social movement. For the most part, they are extraordinary people--compassionate, wise, and with a deep desire to be of service. They see Spiritism as the practical application of the golden rule, so they take care of others' needs in meaningful ways.

Whereas this book is an introduction to the philosophy of Spiritism and a colorful, armchair introduction to the workings of Spiritist Community Centers--my other books on Spiritist themes go into more detail. "Spiritism and Mental Health" is for professionals who want a more scholarly approach to how Spiritists help people with mental health issues. "Resources for Extraordinary Healing" briefly spells out how a Brazilian Spiritist Psychiatric Hospital works--but concentrates on what resources we have in the USA and Europe that are similar. Both of these last two books make it very clear that Brazilian Spiritists have a tremendous model we can learn from to help people who are emotionally disturbed.

Spiritual Evolution – Kheper

There are two definitions of Spiritual evolution

One, to quote from the Wikipedia page on the subject which I co-authored, is the Cosmological or Philosophical perspective, which is

the philosophical, theological, esoteric or spiritual idea that nature and human beings and/or human culture evolve along a predetermined cosmological pattern or ascent, or in accordance with certain pre-determined potentials.

Within this broad definition, theories of spiritual evolution are very diverse. They may be cosmological (describing existence at large), personal (describing the development of the individual), or both. They can be holistic (holding that higher realities emerge from and are not reducible to the lower), idealist (holding that reality is primarily mental or spiritual) or nondual (holding that there is no ultimate distinction between mental and physical reality). All of them can be considered to be teleological to a greater or lesser degree.

Philosophers, scientists, and educators that have proposed theories of spiritual evolution include Nader Angha, Schelling, Hegel, Max Thon, Henri Bergson, Sri Aurobindo, Jean Gebser, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Arthur M. Young, Edward Haskell, E. F. Schumacher, Erich Jantsch, Clare W. Graves, Alfred North Whitehead, Terrence McKenna, P.R. Sarkar, Spiral Dynamics, and Ken Wilber. Thesy tend (for the most part) to be non-materialistic or non-reductionistic.

The other (which sometimes overlaps with the above) is the occult perspective of the evolution of the immanent Divine Principle, the Higher Self or Soul, through successive lifetimes. This is explained by H. P. Blavatsky(the Higher Manas or Immortal Ego in Theosophy), Sri Aurobindo (the Psychic Being), and elsewhere. Because this assumes reincarnation as an integral fact, these ideas are less likely to be embraced by the mainstream.

The above are two diagrams or interpretations of spiritual evolution, selected more or less at random from the web. One (left) refers to a transcendentalist ascent through a number of specifically defined stages, in keeping with the Theosophical and New Age worldview. The same idea of ascent to more spiritual and transcendent states, but without reincarnation, is also found in Anglo-American Spiritualism, 19th century occultism, and channelled communications like the Oahspe Book, and Early (pre-Esoteric Buddhism/Secret Doctrine) Theosophy. This idea of an ascent to progressively more transcendent states is the opposite of the this worldly evolutionary transformation taught by Lurianic/Hassidic Kabbalah and Aurobindonian Integral philosophy.

The other (right) diagram is cyclic and highly detailed, and represents an elaborate cosmology beautifully portrayed in terms of cosmic diagrams. This idea of a cosmic cycle of fall and ascent, or involution and evolution, is incorporated into a spiral. The theme of spiral evolution is also found in the teachings of the Danish mystic Martinus, and in Spiral Dynamics.

Spontaneous Evolution Has Arrived! : In5D Esoteric …

by Gregg Prescott, M.S. Editor, In5D.com

Spontaneous evolution has occurred in history at specific increments in time. What causes these changes? How do these changes affect us on a cellular level? What is happening to our DNA right NOW?

Keep this in mind when reading this article. Edgar Cayce stated,

(Earth) is slowly receding or gathering closer to the sun, from which it receives its impetus for the awakening of the elements from that which it receives from the sun. elements that give life itself, by radiation of like elements.

David Sereda has been working diligently in this area of science. According to Sereda, since 2006, scientists have been noticing a difference in the decay rates in nuclear particles, which had been consistently reliable in previous years.

What does this mean? It isnt typical to see such a drastic change in these decay rates. Scientists are seeing a change of 1/10th of 1% in these particles, which was previously unheard of and is unexplainable at this moment. When a particle speeds up, it means its radiating more energy. This includes the energy and particles within our own bodies. Studies on DNA have indicated that even very weak changes in the energy field can cause profound changes in our DNA.

Sereda went on to state that because our children are in a rapid growth stage, they are going to receive more of this change than the adults.

There is a drastic climate change event happening on every planet in our solar system. Planets are becoming more luminous, have higher energy fields and have thicker atmospheres.

Our Sun reached a solar maximum in 2013. In the meanwhile, it is emitting high energy photons that can literally affect our consciousness, as evidenced by the global awakening thats going on right now. Its certainly not a coincidence that these energies are bringing in a wave of spiritual consciousness that demands truth and desires the best for humanity.

There is some evidence that points to the photon belt as being a prime catalyst for cellular change, but this is more speculation than factual science.

We are exiting the Age of Pisces and are entering the Age of Aquarius. As I noted in a previous article, each age has an energy signature associated with it. The energy signature of Aquarius is one that promotes Divine Order, truthfulness and all that is in the best interests of humanity. This is why the current, worldwide political corruption will come to an end soon, so its important not to focus too much of your own energy on their issues, because thats the only energy thats feeding them at this point in time.

All of the planets in our galaxy are undergoing dramatic climate changes. For example, there is a newly discovered ice cap on Mars, chemical changes on Jupiter, new weather patterns on Venus, a vortex on the south pole of Saturn, etc

There is an energy field at the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy thats described as a ribbon. This is a shocking new result for us and one that is not entirely understood, said David McComas, the lead scientist on a NASA mission called IBEX.

This ribbon is a long band of high-energy particle emissions that could feasibly alter our DNA.

Is it possible that these changes are related to our location to the center of the Milky Way Galaxy as we near the galactic alignment? Do the changes in our Sun have any relevance to the changes in our solar system? How do these changes affect us on a cellular level?

Here on Earth, we have witnessed many changes, including massive land cracks, volcanoes, tsunamis, earthquakes, mass animal die offs, etc Something is causing these changes to occur. While we can point our fingers at chemtrails and H.A.A.R.P. as the reasons for some of these occurrences, most of these changes would have happened anyways. Why? Because other planets arent affected by chemtrails and HAARP, yet theyre still going through dramatic climate changes.

DNA changes are happening right now! Look at some of these indigo children who were born with a total recall of their past lives.

To those who may dismiss this theory, a child was recently born with a 3 strand DNA in England.

Brave toddler Alfie Clamp stuns doctors after being born with extra strand of DNA

A British toddler has become the first person in the world to be born with an extra strand in his DNA, in a condition so rare doctors dont even know its name.

Alfie Clamp, from Warwickshire, northern England, has a seventh chromosome which has an extra arm. source

Go to the 5:22 marker of this video for Dolores Cannons perspective:

A boy has stunned medics with his ability to see in pitch black with eyes that glow in the dark.

Doctors have studied Nong Youhuis amazing eyesight since his dad took him to hospital in Dahua, southern China, concerned over his bright blue eyes.

Dad Ling said: They told me he would grow out of it and that his eyes would stop glowing and turn black like most Chinese people but they never did.

Medical tests conducted in complete darkness show Youhui can read perfectly without any light and sees as clearly as most people do during the day.

Could Nong Youhui be a Hybrid or Starchild? A new and growing generation of extraordinary and gifted children are springing up across our planet, is the human species evolving, or possibly our Extraterrestrial visitors tinkering with our DNA? As always you decide.

There is a gentleman by the name of Hira Ratan Manek (HRM), who has existed solely on sunlight and water since 1996. Thats right, he has not eaten solid food in 12 years. He has been studied by various researchers, such as the Thomas Jefferson University, and the University of Pennsylvania. Not only have they found his claims to be true, but medical evidence suggests this man is healthier than a normal person of his age. He is approaching 80 years old.

HRM practices sungazing daily. Doctors stated that his neurons were active, and not dying. His pineal gland is actually growing, not shrinking, which is very unusual in someone over the age of fifty. The greatest average in someone over fifty, is a pineal size of 66 mm, HRMs is 811 mm.

The reason I bring this up is because weve been taught that its harmful to directly stare into the sun. While Im not advocating sun gazing (although I do it, myself), if one decides to do it, then please research this topic thoroughly.

Perhaps there is a reason why were being told not to look directly into the sun?

According to the Law of One, were at the end of a 75,000 year cycle, comprised of three 25,000 year cycles:

The timing of these cycles is a measurement equal to a portion of intelligent energy. This intelligent energy offers a type of clock. The cycles move as precisely as a clock strikes your hour. Thus, the gateway from intelligent energy to intelligent infinity opens regardless of circumstance on the striking of the hour. source

Scientific evidence has concluded that since 2006, we have entered into a new energy field which can literally change our DNA. This may explain why there are so many chemtrails in our sky, as to deflect these incoming energies. As more and more of these new energies enter our solar system and our atmosphere, we will continue to see changes within our DNA.

The Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism A Study in …

Posted: August 10, 2015 at 1:45 pm

A constant intriguing factor in the imagery of the Great Buddha is the group of three curving conch-like lines on his neck. In the varied world of Buddhist art this is one common characteristic that shines across all aesthetic traditions. Like other Buddhist motifs, it too is soaked in rich spiritual symbolism. It is said to represent Buddha's deep and resonant voice, through which he introduced his followers to the path of dharma.

The association of the conch shell with Buddha's melodious voice, sweet with the tenor of his uplifting message, has both an archetypal simplicity and universal appeal. It is a hard-hitting symbol which associates a primordial object (deemed sacred in all ancient traditions) with the actual physical body of the Buddha. Indeed, though much of Buddhist philosophy is esoteric, when it comes to aesthetics, Buddhist art is justly famous for giving a physical, easily recognizable representation to abstract philosophical truths.

Buddhism has evolved over the centuries a complex, yet discernable scheme of symbolism which has found adequate expression in Buddhist art. Undoubtedly, the most popular of such symbols is the group of eight, known in Sanskrit as 'Ashtamangala,' ashta meaning eight and mangala meaning auspicious. Each of these symbols is also individually associated with the physical form of the Buddha.

These eight auspicious symbols of Buddhism (Tib. bkra shis rtags brgyad) are:

1). A Conch Shell

2). A Lotus

3). A Wheel

4). A Parasol (Umbrella)

5). An Endless Knot

6). A Pair of Golden Fishes

Spiritual evolution – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Posted: August 6, 2015 at 8:47 pm

Spiritual evolution is the philosophical, theological, esoteric or spiritual idea that nature and human beings and/or human culture evolve: either extending from the established cosmological pattern (ascent), or in accordance with certain pre-established potentials. The phrase "spiritual evolution" can occur in the context of "higher evolution", a term used to differentiate psychological, mental, or spiritual evolution from the "lower" or biological evolution of physical form.[1]

The concept of spiritual evolution is also complemented by the idea of a creative impulse in human beings, known as epigenesis.[2]

One can regard all of them as teleological to a greater or lesser degree.

Philosophers, scientists, and educators who have proposed theories of spiritual evolution include Schelling, Hegel, Carl Jung, Max Thon, Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, Henri Bergson, Rudolf Steiner, Sri Aurobindo, Jean Gebser, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Owen Barfield, Arthur M. Young, Edward Haskell, E. F. Schumacher, Erich Jantsch, Clare W. Graves, Alfred North Whitehead, Terence McKenna, P.R. Sarkar. As of 2015[update]William Irwin Thompson (born 1938), Brian Swimme (born 1950), and Ken Wilber (born 1949) work in this field.

Mircea Eliade has suggested that in many pre-modern cultures one finds the concept of the Fall and a "nostalgia for paradise". However for those cultures that have a cyclic cosmology, the concept of a progressive deterioration of the universe (as in the Hesiodic, Hindu, and Lurianic cosmologies of a degradation from a Golden Age to an Iron Age or Kali Yuga) might be balanced by a corresponding ascent to more spiritual stages and a return to paradisical conditions. This is what one finds in Buddhist and especially Jain cosmologies.

Many premodern cosmologies and esoteric systems of thought are based on an emanationist view of reality. If the Cyclic view is temporal, then emanation is a non-temporal precursor to the theory of spiritual evolution.

According to this paradigm, Creation proceeds as an outpouring or even a transformation in the original Absolute or Godhead. The Supreme Light or Consciousness descends through a series of stages, gradations, worlds or hypostases, becoming progressively more material and embodied, before finally turning around to return to the One, retracing its steps through spiritual knowledge, contemplation and ascent.

A supreme example of this form of thinking is the Neoplatonism of Plotinus and his successors. Other examples and interpretations might be found in the Hindu sect of Kashmir Shaivism and Tantra in general, Gnosticism, Sufism, and Kabbalah. The Hindu idea of the Chakras might also considered here as the "microcosmic" counterpart of macrocosmic involution and evolution. The Yogi raises the Kundalini or life force through and thus transcends each chakra in turn, until he reaches the crown chakra and liberation.[3]

An early example of the doctrine of spiritual evolution is found in Samkhya, one of the six systems of Hindu philosophy, that goes back more than two and a half thousand years (although its present form dates to around the 4th or 5th century c.e.). Unlike most types of classic Hinduism, the traditional Samkhyan philosophy is atheistic and dualistic. Pure spirit (called purusha) comes into proximity with prakriti (psychophysical nature), disturbing its equilibrium. As a result the original root-prakriti (mulaprakriti) undergoes a series of progressive transformations or unfoldings, in the form of successive essences called tattvas. The most subtle tattwas emerge first, then progressively grosser ones, each in a particular order, and finally the elements and the organs of sense. The goal of evolution however is, paradoxically, the release of purusha and the return to the unmanifest condition. Hence everything is tending towards a goal of spiritual quiescence.[4]

The concept of the great chain of being developed by Plato and Aristotle whose ideas were taken up and synthesised by Plotinus. Plotinus in turn heavily influenced Augustine's theology, and from there Aquinas and the Scholastics. The Great Chain of Being was an important theme in Renaissance and Elizabethan thought, had an under-acknowledged influence on the shaping of the ideas of the Enlightenment and played a large part in the worldview of 18th century Europe. And while essentially a static worldview, by the 18th and early 19th century it had been "temporalized" by the concept of the soul ascending or progressing spiritually through the successive rungs or stages, and thus growing or evolving closer to God.[5] It also had at this time an impact on theories of biological evolution.

We begin our spiritual evolution by training our mental being to rise above itself--to refine and raise itself--to a metaphysical realm. Agreeing with Plato that physical objects are continually changing, we contemplate their forms as the constant, eternal elements. All things are made up of metaphysical, nonphysical, nonspatial, nontemporal, universal, eternal Forms (ideai, eide) manifesting in the physical universe as individual objects.

While the world of physical objects in space and time is known through sense perception and ordinary thought, the metaphysical world of Forms is known only through philosophic reflection, dialectical interchange, and contemplation--beyond ordinary experience and requiring special capabilities of apprehension.

After attaining the discernment of the metaphysical world of Forms, the ascent of the mind from ordinary consciousness, we strive to expand our consciousness into our spiritual body, with its own dynamic and sovereign mastery free from the mind's limitations.

We begin the development of a higher center of awareness in the spiritual realm. This involves "dying" to our old terrestrial consciousness and being born into a new spiritual body with its own faculties of awareness. We awaken--as an infant in a new realm--to the powers of discernment of this new body.

We learn to focus our consciousness on subtle, almost indiscernible elements, apprehended through impressions which are completely different from those of the physical, sensory world. We develop a new spiritual awareness with a new focus of consciousness within the soul, apart from our ordinary bodily awareness. As we harmonize the various powers of this new awareness center, we realize that there has occurred a transmutational descent of the Supramental Consciousness into our new being. We begin to understand Rilke's passage in his poem: "God wants to know Himself in you." and Mansur Al-Hallaj's statement: "I have seen my Lord with the eye of my heart, and I said: 'Who are You?' He said: 'You.'"

So here you are, a restless soul, still searching for the meaning of life, still searching for Loves fulfilment, still feeling alone, still hiding behind a mask, but I see you and what I see is more precious than you have dared to consider.

So here we are, brought together by Love and Truth, so that we may share in their gifts.

I will share freely the things that were given to me, and together we will fill that empty space within you.

I will tell you of things that no-one else in this world canor dare tell you, and you will know that I am a true teacher and healer of souls. I will give you back what was taken from you and make you your own master, for a loving soul seeks no power over others.

We all have only one judge and that is Love, from which all Truth comes.

It is not who you were or what you have done in the past that matters, rather it is who you are now and what you will become that is important.

You will never cease to exist, may your future be lived in peace and harmony, and with Love and Truth.

I will make all things new, and you will know that you are loved and on the true path to your Spiritual Evolution.

Love and peace,

William
