29 September 2014 By Annie Sragner, Columnist No Comments

This week has been plodding on in a rut. I was swamped with work and my mom had some emergency health problems. Everything seems to go wrong at once.

Often times when I dwell on the negative external events happening around me, I notice my internal voice taking on a touch of meanness. Annie, why did you get yourself here? Do better! she says condescendingly at me.

By voice, I dont mean literal voices speaking in your head. Its just the internal monologue and flow of your thoughts and what that sounds like to you.

I started reading The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. In the first few dozen pages, he discusses separating yourself from that voice. Your true being is the person who listens to those thoughts and acknowledges them.

Whenever I become overwhelmed with the work-and-play college scene, I try to consciously listen to the tone and content of this negative voice and feeling. Almost immediately, the voice silences and Im completely at peace in the moment.

So much of our mood depends on the tone of the inner voice. It is a lot easier to have a good day when your brain speaks nicely to the rest of you. Its almost scary to think that the brain has so much power over us. It even named itself! It came up with the word brain.

Ive heard it said that there are three voices that exist: the voice you hear in your own head, the voice you hear when you speak out loud and the voice that others hear from you. This is correlated to why hearing your own voice on tape sounds so odd and why singers often cover one of their ears to better hear their external voice.

Getting caught up in one voice causes you to neglect or ignore the other two voices by law of conservation. People who act grumpy are caught up in their internal thoughts and forget to consider how their voice sounds to others. This is why people put their foot in their mouth or say things they dont mean.

Santa Fe/Seattle fine artist Robbi Firestone and mindful marketer Kimberly Maska discuss spiritual entrepreneurship on …

Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) September 25, 2014

Artist Robbi Firestone divulged stepping stones to entrepreneurial success, selling her first oil portrait, conscious business, and inspirational business strategies in a recent interview with mind, body, spirit marketing extraordinaire Kimberly Maska.

Kimberly Maska recently launched a new podcast (available on iTunes), called Mindfully Marketing, focusing on marketing strategies for today's mind, body, spirit thought leaders. Maska says, It is always so incredible to see someone turn their passion into a thriving business. I want to be able to share knowledge and experience with my listeners.

Firestone, who admits to struggling in New York City advertising at a young age, is a likely candidate for mindful marketing. As a fine artist, creativity retreat facilitator, workshop instructor, and creator of SantaFeArtClasses.com, Firestone openly admits the struggles in accepting that money is not at odds with spirituality.

Firestones lifelong curiosity with ancient wisdom and new thought prompted her current project, Twelve Global Visionaries. Don Miguel Ruiz, best selling author of The Four Agreements, and Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith, Founder of Agape International Spiritual Center and contributor to global best selling book and film, The Secret, have personally met with Firestone for their portraits. Twelve Global Visionaries promises to be a distinctive body of work infusing each sitters teachings into audiences where they might not normally be found: politics and art.

Somehow we are taught to see money as if its some evil thing. That is a true disadvantage for those of us who focus on spirituality... I am committed to being a distribution point for good. Success and money are powerful tools for healing, states Firestone.

Maska began her spiritual journey several years ago. During the sudden illness and death of her mother, Martha, she understood the lessons she learned from the great spiritual leaders like Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle and Rumi, to name a few. She has made it her mission to help Mind Body Spirit Thought Leaders reach as many people as possible with their beautiful and life changing messages.

Firestone was deeply inspired by T. Harv Ekers, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind and considers it incredible schooling for mind, body, spirit entrepreneurs. One of the biggest takeaways is to rarely watch television until you are financially free. Instead, Firestone uses this time to reading, studying investing and marketing, and keeping her spiritual practices in check. Maska says the same lesson applies to social media and computer time.

Firestone says its been a long journey to accepting her passion and following her lifes journey. Advice for others itching to unleash creativity? Go and spend the next 10,000 hours toward what you love, because youre inevitably going to either choose that passion at some point in your life, or die exhausted because you never did.

Robbi Firestone is a Licensed Spiritual Practitioner (RScP), fine artist, speaker, and coach. Firestone addresses Fortune 500 CEOs, Young Presidents Organization, and cultural creativesfrom intimate meetings to audiences reaching 2000. Firestones prized oil portraits, known as "Spirit Capture" oil portrait commissions, reflect her subjects' inner selves, hopes, and dreams, as well as the faces they show to the world. “I really want to meet her someday, so I can be like, 'Look, I look a lot like you, maybe we should hang out or do a photo shoot together or something.'”

Desiree Yard, Dancer

You sort of have a Cyndi Lauper thing going on. Oh my goodness, I get that all the time! Random people on the street will come up and tell me this and ask to take my picture. I didnt even realize the resemblance till I moved here. Theyll be like, You look like a young Cyndi Lauper but prettier. I really want to meet her someday, so I can be like, Look, I look a lot like you, maybe we should hang out or do a photo shoot together or something. I once met someone at a party who babysat her daughter. I asked her for an introduction but never saw her again.

When did you move here? In 2010, to be a dancer. Im now part of a contemporary-dance company, and I dog-walk on the side. I take care of a Goldendoodle named Dave who belongs to one of Woody Allens producers. He knew I was in show business and got me an audition for the lead in the Bullets Over Broadway musical.

I assume you did not get the part? No, I didnt get it. But neither did Jessica Biel, so there!

Lightning Round

John Raatz, Executive Director of the David Lynch MA in Film Program is SCALING CHANGE, For Social Good.

Boston, Massachusetts (PRWEB) September 16, 2014

The idea that film, TV, and web content can have far reaching implications for transforming humanity and the future of social good will take center stage at the 9th Annual Independent Television and Film Festival (ITVFest) in Dover, Vermont, September 26-28. Veteran marketing and PR professional, and transformational entertainment and media pioneer, John Raatz, will lend his considerable leadership in this arena as social entrepreneurs and socially conscious filmmakers alike explore how their messages for improving the world can reach a broader audience by working together. We want to empower entertainment and media professionals and companies to produce and distribute content that inspires new awareness-based world-views for global audiences, said Raatz.

Raatz will be advising social entrepreneurs with a vision for changing the world and encouraging them to connect with the more than 1,000 expected filmmakers who will be attending the event. A change-maker himself, Raatz understands the need to amplify powerful stories about new initiatives to solve social problems. Those of us who create entertainment and media content must think about the impact our work has on people and try to make that impact as positive and meaningful as possible, continued Raatz.

John brings incredible depth and leadership to this conversation, said Valerie Vandermeer, founder and President of Scaling Change, the organization that conceived and developed this collaborative event. Raatz founded, along with co-founders author Eckhart Tolle and actor Jim Carrey, the Global Alliance for Transformational Entertainment, a non-profit organization dedicated to mobilizing and supporting entertainment and media professionals, who want to express their own transformational vision and values through their work.

An entertainment industry veteran, Raatz has represented scores of clients, many of them foremost transformational authors and performers and thought leaders including Eckhart Tolle, Fritjof Capra, Peter Russell, Daniel Quinn, Madonna, Kenny Loggins, Donovan and films including Mindwalk, A Brief History of Time, What the Bleep Do We Know!?, Peaceful Warrior, The 11th Hour, and Tom Shadyacs I AM.

Since 2004, Raatz has served as a member of a Grammy Awards screening committee, was a judge on the Blue Ribbon panel of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Gold Quill awards, was a producer and industry judge at the Inspiration Film Festival in Los Angeles, and co-produced the 2006 Inspiration Film Festival. Most recently John was appointed Executive Director of the David Lynch Masters in Film Program at Maharishi University of Management. Raatz and GATE have joined with Pacifica Graduate Institute to create the world's first certificate program in transformational storytelling.

We want to help passionate content creators find stories that will inspire them and also create social good, said ITVFest Executive Director Phil Gilpin. Indie filmmakers are redefining the medium and revolutionizing the industry. They are a natural fit for collaborating with social entrepreneurs because they are already putting themselves out there on the edge of creativity.

Scaling Change, the organization responsible for bringing together social entrepreneurs and filmmakers at this event, believes that these two highly energized groups have enormous untapped potential for working together. This concept and the collaborative nature of the workshops being offered, are unprecedented, but we have to be willing to try new things and see where they lead us, said Scaling Change President Valerie Vandermeer.

This is an opportunity for content creators and change-makers to find each other and connect based on what really matters deeply to them and join together to amplify that. These passionate change-makers will be converging on the tiny town of Dover, Vermont, September 26-28, hopefully to launch a new era in using filmmaking for social good.

We are so grateful to have John speaking to this critical group. Social entrepreneurs are solving daunting human problems, but they are also transforming how we relate to each other and changing the process of how we transact social good through business endeavors. We expect our attendees will be quite moved by Johns closing remarks and are very excited about the attention he is bringing to their work, said Vandermeer.
