A dedicated bus lane, safety improvements and other upgrades are part of a $44 million plan to upgrade Boston's Blue Hill Avenue, which runs through Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan.Mayor Michelle Wu announced the plan Wednesday, saying the project will begin with short-term improvements this spring, followed by full roadway construction in 2026.Of the $44 million for the project, $15 million will come from a federal grant through the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Transit Administration, Wu said. Other funds will come from the city and MBTA, according to the mayor's statement. The addition of a center-running bus lane along the corridor will serve more than 37,000 bus riders every weekday, the mayor said. With a crash requiring Boston EMS occurring along Blue Hill Avenue once every three days on average, Wu's announcement said the plan aims to cut back on the estimated 3,000 hours per weekday lost by bus riders stuck in traffic.A bus trip down the length of Blue Hill Avenue, which currently takes up to 1 hour, could be slashed to 25 minutes. Free rides along MBTA bus routes 23, 28 and 29, which run along Blue Hill Avenue, were recently extended for another two years. From the majority of commuters in Blue Hill Ave. who are stuck in traffic waiting on the bus, to seniors and families who cant safely cross the wide roadway to get where they need to go, weve heard community feedback that improvements are needed for all road users," Wu said in a statement. Additionally, Wu's announcement said the project would create wider sidewalks and additional crosswalks while increasing trees throughout the area, upgrading street lighting and adding opportunities for benches, bike parking and public art.The next steps for the project will include a spring effort to collect community input on the block-by-block layout, including the right proportion of parking and loading zones. Short-term work will include refreshing pavement markings, lighting upgrades and repairs for damaged sections of the road or sidewalk.

For Todays Quote, we have picked Chapter 17, Verse 3. This verse talks about how a persons faith makes them what they are, and it says, sattvnurp sarvasya hraddh bhavati bhrata hraddh-mayo ya puruho yo yach-chhraddha sa eva sa

The faith of all humans conforms to the nature of their minds. All people possess faith, and whatever the nature of their faith, that is verily what they are.

Where we decide to place our faith and what we choose to believe in practically shapes the direction of our life. Those who develop the conviction that money is of paramount importance in the world spend their entire life accumulating it. Those who believe that fame counts more than anything else dedicate their time and energy chasing political posts and social designations. Those who believe in noble values sacrifice everything to uphold them.

"It's your outlook on life that counts. If you take yourself lightly and don't take yourself too seriously, pretty soon you can find the humor in our everyday lives. And sometimes it can be a lifesaver." Betty White.

Investing in Yourself: The ROI of Online Learning for Career Advancement and Long-Term Success – Business MattersBusiness Matters

Posted: at 2:51 am

Its about seizing control of your development and opening doors to new opportunities. In a world where industries constantly evolve, staying relevant requires a commitment to lifelong learning.

Now, thats a lot easier said than done. Whether you have a current vocation or are aiming to alter your career path, the multitude of responsibilities outside of work make continued learning feel overwhelming. When will you find the time? And, better yet, will it be worth the investment?

Well, lets find out.

Its easy to understand the concept of investing funds for potential growth, but what about investing in yourself. While it might seem an odd perspective to take on, investing in yourself has the potential to propel your career and personal life forward. Its about enhancing your skills, knowledge, and experience to create a positive impact on your future.

You actively take charge of your growth when you focus on self-investment. Its committing both time and resources to improve your abilities and widen your horizons. This commitment is akin to placing capital into financial assets, but here, youre the asset, and the dividends are personal and professional progress.

By nurturing your own development, you open doors to new opportunities and increase your potential in the job market. Personal growth can lead to higher earnings and career advancement as you become more valuable to employers. It also instils a strong sense of self-confidence and well-being.

Key Benefits:

Weve already addressed the elephant in the room: time. When will you find the time to invest in yourself? How will you manage it?

Enter the world of Online Learning. Here, time is your ally. Online learning platforms allow for a significant amount of flexibility compared to traditional classroom learning. Without a rigid schedule required, you can learn during any free moment you can spare.

Now, with the freedom of flexible learning, there requires a great deal of self discipline. Namely, you have to manage your time effectively.

Now that weve talked about the importance of investing in yourself, lets see just how that investment has the potential to pay off greatly. There are several ways online learning yields a high return on investment.

Consider the traditional path to acquiring new skills or degreesphysical classrooms, textbooks, commuting, and perhaps even relocation. The costs add up, towering like a formidable mountain between you and your aspirations.

Courses from world-renowned institutions are available at a fraction of the cost, and the absence of physical textbooks and commuting slashes expenses further. Starting your nursing career path or journey through project management is so much easier without a significant financial burden. This affordability opens the door to endless possibilities without draining your bank account.

The strategic selection of courses and certifications can dramatically alter career trajectories. For instance, IT professionals who add cybersecurity certifications to their repertoire can see their market value skyrocket, as the demand for cybersecurity expertise outpaces the supply of qualified individuals. These advancements are not merely steps forward; they are leaps toward higher salaries, greater responsibilities, and more fulfilling career paths.

Moreover, online learning platforms are increasingly recognized and respected by employers worldwide. Degrees and certifications from reputable online institutions carry weight, breaking down the barriers between traditional and online education. This recognition opens doors to job opportunities that were once exclusive to graduates of top-tier universities, levelling the playing field and allowing talent and hard work to shine.

The financial gains associated with online learning extend beyond immediate salary increases. They also include the long-term benefits of career stability, upward mobility, and the ability to transition seamlessly between industries. As the digital economy grows, those who have invested in their online education stand to reap the rewards of higher lifetime earnings, job security, and the satisfaction of being at the cutting edge of their field.

Online learning is not just an educational choice; its a strategic career move. It equips professionals with the tools to navigate the complexities of the modern job market, embrace change, and seize opportunities. The result is a more dynamic career path, marked by accelerated growth, high ROI, and the ability to adapt and thrive in the ever-changing world of work.

Josh Taylor explains motivation ahead of Jack Catterall rematch – dazn.com

Posted: at 2:50 am

Rematches can often take on a more personal feeling than other boxing matches, and Josh Taylor vs. Jack Catterall 2 certainly appears to be highly a personal affair to the fighters involved.

The duo were involved in a contentious battle for Taylor's undisputed super-lightweight crown in Feb. 2022, with Taylor claiming victory by split decision.

The "Tartan Tornado" has sincerelinquished the WBC, IBF and WBA titles and lost the WBO belt to Teofimo Lopez last year, but the lack of titles will not put a damper on Taylor's rematch with Catterall, which will be shown live worldwide(excluding the United States)on DAZNon April 27.

For Taylor, the bout is less about getting himself back into the title conversation and more about getting one over on a rival.

"I could retire today and have had a career one in 65 million, because Im the only undisputed champion in the four-belt era in the UK," Taylor said at a press conference on Monday."I could be happy, but this fight, Im right up for.

"Forget titles, championships, belts, I just want to fight this guy, and Im up for it in training and enjoying it. The ambition and hunger are there. There are bragging rights, its right up there and I cant wait."

After both men were deducted points for infractions in the later rounds of their first bout, Taylor expects another scrappy battle against his opponentwhen they meet inLeeds in April.

"The last time his tactics were to spoil and hold and steal the fight which is what he tried to do, and the judges didnt like it, so if he comes to fight, great, the referee this time doesnt allow the holding," Taylor said.

"You lost, why dont you go and phone the police again? Write a letter to your MP again, you grass."

Needless to say, there is no love lost between the two fighters, as Taylor so succinctly explained.

"I dont hate anyone," he said, "but I dont like this guy and I cant wait to smash his brains in, what little brains hes got."

Raiders’ Antonio Pierce motivated to ‘run it back’ against Chiefs: ‘We’ve already given the recipe of how to do it’ – NFL.com

Posted: at 2:50 am

without comments

The Patrick Mahomes era has not been kind to the Silver and Black. The now three-time Super Bowl Most Valuable Player has gone 10-2 against the Raiders and quarterbacked Kansas City to six of its eight straight division titles.

However, Pierce can still hang his hat on being the last squad to beat the Chiefs during the 2023 season.

Entering Christmas Day with a six-game losing streak against K.C., the Raiders bullied the Chiefs during a 20-14 win in which Las Vegas scored two defensive touchdowns and twice turned Mahomes and Co. over on downs.

As part of gearing up for the rivalry game, Pierce leaned into animosity.

"There's a difference between dislike and hatred," he said. "There's a hatred for the Chiefs. You've got to truly dislike and hate this individual team. We'll be cool now in the offseason. We see them, we're going to shake hands out at a place like this. But between that white lines and the grass, it was on. And these guys did it."

"Hate the color red. We saw red. We hate red. It was on that kind of level," Pierce added about the matchup.

At the time an interim head coach, Pierce showed his team footage ranging from UFC fights to Muhammad Ali closing out boxing matches, something the Raiders had failed to do against the Chiefs a month prior despite opening up a 14-0 lead.

He also borrowed from basketball and the "Bad Boy" Detroit Pistons to get his point across, introducing an ingredient that'll continue to factor into Pierce's Chief-dethroning recipe now that he's the full-time head coach.

"We've got the Jordan rules and what I'm calling from now on as long as I'm here, the Patrick Mahomes rules," Pierce said. "So you remember when Jordan was going through it with the Pistons, all those guys in the '80s before he became Michael Jordan, Air Jordan, the Pistons used to whoop his ass. Any time he came to the hole? Elbows, feeling him, love taps. We touched him. We're in the head, mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, I'm touching you. So, I showed those guys Jordan getting his ass whooped."

What resulted was a bruising victory in line with the spirit of the Raiders, one that seemingly had the Chiefs reeling after four losses in their last six games.

It was the height of panic regarding Kansas City's title defense, but much like Jordan did in later years, Mahomes overcame, rattling off six consecutive victories on the way to his third Super Bowl victory while the Raiders watched at 8-9.

Such a response and such sustained success is worthy of Pierce's begrudging respect, even as he looks to build off a slice of success to wrest away the whole AFC West in 2024.

"At the end of the day, you've got to give them their respect," Pierce said. "They've done it now for seven years, man. Three out of four years they're at the Super Bowl. To be honest, we're striving for that."

Binance Announces Closer of BTC, ETH, BNB Leveraged Tokens – Crypto Times

Posted: at 2:48 am

without comments

Binance has announced the closure of several leveraged token services. This decision impacts tokens associated with cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ether, and BNB. Binance has set a clear timeline for users to convert or redeem these tokens, emphasizing the importance of acting before the April 3 deadline.

Starting February 28, at precisely 06:00 UTC, Binance will halt trading and subscription services for leveraged tokens, including BTCUP, BTCDOWN, ETHUP, ETHDOWN, BNBUP, and BNBDOWN.

Consequently, the platform will automatically cancel all related trade orders. Binance advises its users to swiftly transition their holdings into alternative assets to avoid potential complications.

Moreover, the exchange plans a phased delisting and redemption cessation of these tokens from April 1 to April 3. For those who miss this window, Binance will convert any remaining tokens into USDT based on their value at the time of delisting. The exchange promises to credit these funds to user accounts within 24 hours, subsequently removing the leveraged tokens from wallets.

Binances leveraged tokens have offered traders a way to gain amplified exposure to crypto assets without the usual requisites of collateral or maintenance margins. However, despite their advantages, Binance cautions about the inherent risks. These include the volatile nature of the perpetual contracts market, along with potential premiums and funding rates.

This move underscores Binances commitment to user safety and market stability, reminding traders of the careful navigation required in the complex world of cryptocurrency trading.

Also, traders should note that this move is only for leveraged future trading, and Futures trading will continue to be operational as usual.

An Introduction to BNB Smart Chain (BSC) – Binance Academy

Posted: at 2:48 am

without comments

BNB Smart Chain (BSC) was created in 2020 to run in parallel with the BNB Beacon Chain. The two chains were built for different purposes, but both are part of the broader BNB Chain ecosystem.

BSC brought new features and more customization through the use of smart contracts, fostering an explosive growth of decentralized applications and Web3 services.

Soon, the BNB Beacon Chain will be discontinued and merged with BSC, giving birth to a single, unified BNB Smart Chain.

BNB Smart Chain (BSC) is a blockchain network that offers a wide variety of Web3 tools and decentralized applications (DApps). Its a high-performance blockchain that supports smart contracts, which allow developers to create all types of services and applications, including blockchain games, governance and voting systems, decentralized finance (DeFi), and much more.

BNB Smart Chain was created in 2020 to address the limitations of the BNB Beacon Chain. So, to understand the BNB Smart Chain, its helpful to explore its relationship with the BNB Beacon Chain.

BNB Chain was launched in 2019. At the time, the BNB utility token migrated from the Ethereum network to become the native token of the BNB Chain. That early version of the BNB Chain is what we now know as the BNB Beacon Chain.

In 2022, the BNB Smart Chain (BSC) and BNB Beacon Chain were put together under the BNB Chain ecosystem. Since then, the two blockchains have continued to operate separately, serving different use cases.

Unlike BNB Beacon Chain, BSC boasts smart contract functionality and compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). The design goal was to introduce smart contracts to the BNB ecosystem without interfering with the BNB Beacon Chain operations.

BNB Beacon Chain: Adopts the BEP-2 token standard and acts as a governance layer, with staking and voting systems.

BNB Smart Chain (BSC): Created to offer smart contract functionality. Adopts the BEP-20 token standard and works as an EVM-compatible layer with DApps, DeFi services, multi-chain support, and other Web3 applications.

In essence, both blockchains operate side-by-side. Its worth noting that BSC isnt a so-called layer 2 or off-chain scalability solution. Its an independent blockchain that could run even if BNB Beacon Chain went offline.

Because BSC is EVM-compatible, it launched with support for the rich universe of Ethereum tools and DApps. This makes it easy for developers to port their projects over from Ethereum. For users, it means that applications like MetaMask can be easily configured to work with BSC.

In late 2023, the BNB Chain team announced its plan to retire the BNB Beacon Chain, transferring its core functionalities to the BNB Smart Chain network.

The migration is expected to happen through multiple stages, starting in April 2024 and concluding in June of the same year. For more information, please refer to the BNB Chain Fusion roadmap.

BNB Smart Chain achieves ~3 second block times with a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus algorithm. Specifically, it uses the Proof of Staked Authority (PoSA) mechanism, where participants stake BNB to become validators.

Validators are incentivized with transaction fees derived from the blocks of transactions they validate. Note that, unlike many protocols, there is no block subsidy of freshly-minted BNB, as BNB is not inflationary. In fact, the supply of BNB decreases over time as the BNB team regularly conducts coin burns.

BNB Smart Chain adopts BEP-20 as its main token standard. Have you read An Introduction to ERC-20 Tokens? Then, you are already familiar with the format of BEP-20. It uses the same functions as its Ethereum counterpart.

BEP-20 acts as a blueprint for tokens, defining important parameters and rules for token issuance and functionalities. Designed as a technical specification for BNB Smart Chain, BEP-20 allows developers to create a diverse array of digital assets, including NFTs, stablecoins, utility tokens, and more.

Blockchain transactions on the BNB Smart Chain require a small amount of BNB to be paid as gas. Similar to ETH on the Ethereum blockchain, gas fees provide an incentive for validators to confirm transactions and secure the network.

If you use PancakeSwap or other DeFi applications on BSC, you may have noticed digital assets from other blockchains, such as BTC, USDT, ETH, and many more. Such assets exist on the BNB Smart Chain as peggy coins or wrapped tokens. These are tokens that have their values pegged to the original assets on their native chains.

For instance, the BTCB token on BSC tracks the value of BTC on the original Bitcoin blockchain. This is done through smart contracts that issue a new BTCB token for every unit of BTC locked on the original chain. By doing this, we can effectively port external assets onto the BSC ecosystem.

In other words, due to the flexibility of BNB Smart Chain, assets from a number of different chains can be used in the growing DeFi space of the BNB Chain ecosystem allowing users to exchange assets, engage in yield farming, vote on proposals, and much more.

BNB Smart Chain (BSC) stands as a dynamic and high-performance blockchain within the BNB Chain ecosystem, offering a multitude of Web3 tools and decentralized applications (DApps). Created in 2020 to address the limitations of the BNB Beacon Chain, BSC has played a pivotal role in fostering the explosive growth of decentralized applications and Web3 services through the implementation of smart contracts.

The crypto world is rapidly growing, with several projects leading the charts. One standout crypto project is Algotech (ALGT). This newly launched cryptocurrency is in its presale round, and has secured over $455,000 in funding within days.

Other projects like SUI (SUI) and Binance (BNB) have also moved in the green. However, their growth rate is not as convincing as that of Algotech (ALGT).

With a continuous rise in price charts, SUI (SUI) has become one of the best-performing cryptocurrencies in 2024. In the last month, the market value of SUI (SUI) has increased by 30%. Consequently, SUI (SUI) is currently trading at $1.84.

One of the major reasons behind SUIs (SUI) rise is increased activity on its network. The on-chain data shows that the assets deposited on the SUI (SUI) blockchain have skyrocketed by 92% since January 1.

With this, SUI (SUI) has become one of the top ten chains by total value locked. At present, the TVL of SUI (SUI) is more than $609 million.

Binance (BNB) recently grabbed the attention of the crypto community after moving a significant amount of XRP tokens. On February 13, Binance (BNB) transferred a whopping 200 million XRP tokens to an unidentified wallet. As per reports, Binance (BNB) has activated the receiving address on December 21.

However, the real reason why Binance (BNB) transferred these XRP tokens is still not clear. Meanwhile, Binance (BNB) has witnessed an increase in its price movement. On the monthly price chart, Binance (BNB) has soared by 12%. Hence, at the time of writing, Binance (BNB) is changing hands at $355.08.

Thanks to technological advancements, traditional manual trading has given way to algorithmic trading. Algo trading has become popular for its accuracy, low cost, and high efficiency. Therefore, around 70%-80% of traders globally use algorithms in trading. Now, Algotech (ALGT) has launched a novel crypto trading platform to capitalize on this trend.

The new platform offers advanced technologies. It analyzes market trends, patterns, and vast data sets to identify the best digital assets. Besides, Algotech (ALGT) has planned to list multiple trading pairs. For this, it will collaborate with leading crypto exchanges.

Algotech (ALGT) will also offer arbitrage services. Through this, Algotech (ALGT) users can exploit price differences between different crypto exchanges. The platform will promote social trading. Here, users can copy the successful trades of seasoned and professional traders. They can also share their trading strategies with other traders in the Algotech (ALGT) community.

Due to these features, the demand for Algotech (ALGT) has surged significantly. More than 25% of tokens assigned to the platforms presale Stage 1 are sold out within a few days of its launch. Currently, investors can lock an ALGT token at just $0.04, which will rise to $0.06 in the next stage.

Moreover, analysts predict that the tokens price can go up by 275% during the presale round. Interestingly, users can start locking presale ALGT tokens for just $25.

Notably, the holders of presale ALGT tokens will win several giveaways. It includes prizes like the latest iPad, VIP tickets to a blockchain event in Dubai, and many more. The ALGT token holders will also get voting rights on the platform.

Aging lifers in Mass. look to self-improvement as a pathway to release from prison – The Boston Globe

In 1987, Ferreira told the Globe that through Christianity, I could love for the first time.

In a way, I am as free as I will ever be, he added.

More than 35 years later, however, hes preparing to petition the state to set him free from prison.

Get Money, Power, Inequality

A weekly newsletter connecting you with news about the racial wealth gap in Greater Boston, along with solutions being proposed to bridge the gap.

Governor Maura Healey said in October that her office will use new guidelines to grant pardons and commutations that favorably consider petitioners ages if they are over 50, health issues, and exceptional strides in self-development. Advocates have responded by championing lifers with similar backgrounds to Ferreira as ideal candidates for a reduced sentence.

Supporters say this small group of older lifers should be at the top of Healeys list, citing their model behavior as mentors and students and a track record of contributing positively to the community during the old furlough program.

Theres no way some of these men, who are 60, 70, 80 years old, should be in prison, said Wayne Sorel, who spends hours in conversation with inmates each week as part of his work with the prison ministry at the Christian Fellowship Center in New Bedford. Some of these crimes are very heinous, but that doesnt mean character is not built up along the way if they have the proper facilities to [rehabilitate themselves].

While there were only 24 pending applications for commutation as of last month, Massachusetts could see those numbers rise as Healey joins a national tide of governors who are beginning to embrace pardons and commutations for the first time in decades. Nearly 60 percent of the pending applications were submitted by people serving a life sentence for first-degree murder. And close to half of petitions were from people 60 and older, according to the states parole board.

About a third of all 805 people serving life without parole in Massachusetts are Black, according to Department of Correction data from late 2022. Nearly 20 percent are Hispanic, while close to 3 percent are Asian and about 1 percent are Indigenous.

Healey told the Globe her goal in revamping the eligibility requirements for commutations and pardons was to directly address issues of disparities and of systemic race bias in the system.

Weve got a lot of people who are in the system who are incarcerated, who are there because of serious issues with substance use disorder, with mental health, with trauma, she said, pointing specifically to people incarcerated for offenses they committed as young adults. We know through science now, their brain wasnt fully developed.

Youve got people whove been serving their time, who in some instances have gotten themselves further education, who are ready to contribute and want to contribute, whose families want them to contribute, she added. Lets give them that opportunity.

Ferreiras attorney, Tim Foley, said hes hopeful that Ferreiras time spent preaching and mentoring youth while on furlough will give him a better position with the board of pardons, particularly given the new guidelines focus on self-development.

Its just such a long history of being outside in the community, actually helping the community . . . and doing very well, Foley said. Hes done nothing but try to improve himself from where he was when he was first incarcerated.

Foley said he believes that commutation petitions will really pick up steam with Healeys new guidelines and become the norm rather than extraordinary. Foley said he anticipates that the Governors Council, which must approve all requests for commutation, will serve as a check and balance to the new guidelines.

The new guidelines cast a wide net in order to address long-existing inequalities, he said. However, accountability, self-development, and post-offense behavior are still balanced against the facts and circumstances of the crime.

Among the nearly two dozen people whose commutation petitions are currently pending, several acknowledged the role substance use played in their criminal behavior, while others described growing up in homes where violence and incarceration were the norm a pattern that traces the lives of many men and women who themselves are in prison for violent crimes.

Lewis Dickerson, 75, also intends to make another petition to have his life sentence for first-degree murder commuted. When Dickerson went before the Governors Advisory Board of Pardons in 2005, he told Boston Magazine that his father beat him with belts, cords, and fists before dying in a fight, and that he grew up into a young man who was periodically arrested for property crime and experimented with heroin.

His 2005 request for pardon was denied. Nearly two decades later, Dickerson, who killed a young woman during a liquor store robbery in 1975, said in an email that his years spent working outside the prison at several hospitals around the state taught him patience and discipline and matured him.

This exposure and experience, it kept me from becoming involved in the negativity of prison life and has resulted in the healthier, kinder, more generous person that I am today, he told the Globe.

At the State House, Representative Russell Holmes of Boston is the lead lawmaker pushing for the return of furloughs. In addition to filing a bill to restore the program, Holmes said he also continues to lobby Healey directly to bring the initiative back.

Ive met with the governor multiple times, and my number one ask is to begin furloughs again, Holmes previously told the Globe. Im trying my best to get folks [who are incarcerated] connected to their families again, and if I can remove any barrier to that, Im going to do it.

As someone who struggled with substance abuse for years before becoming a Christian, Sorel, the New Bedford prison ministry worker, said he knows what its like to have a bad record, and can relate to the ones . . . who care to be changed. He said any inmate who has worked consistently to grow and mature while in prison has the potential to contribute meaningfully to society upon release, as long as he has a safe place where he can go to continue rehabilitation and where people can watch out for him.

Sorel, who recently started working with Dickerson as part of his prison ministry, described Dickerson as an honorable man whose whole demeanor [is] to do everything good that he could for his community. He said Dickerson reflects often on his time spent outside the prison walls, and sees the new commutation guidelines as a potential pathway home.

The end of the furlough program shot him down and put him in a sad place, Sorel said, but now he has renewed hope.
