I have been active as a journalist for over 10 years, most of it in the field of technology. I worked for Toms Hardware and ComputerBase, among others, and have been working for Notebookcheck since 2017. My current focus is particularly on mini PCs and single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi so in other words, compact systems with a lot of potential. In addition, I have a soft spot for all kinds of wearables, especially smartwatches. My main profession is as a laboratory engineer, which is why neither scientific contexts nor the interpretation of complex measurements are foreign to me.
Growing up in regional Australia, I first became acquainted with computers in my early teens after a broken leg from a football (soccer) match temporarily condemned me to a predominately indoor lifestyle. Soon afterwards I was building my own systems. Now I live in Germany, having moved here in 2014, where I study philosophy and anthropology. I am particularly fascinated by how computer technology has fundamentally and dramatically reshaped human culture, and how it continues to do so.

Local yoga teacher coauthors new anthology The Sopris Sun – soprissun.com
Posted: at 2:37 am
Amy Harris, a local yoga teacher and energy and embodiment mentor in the Valley, has coauthored an anthology book which tells the stories of eight master students of Teo Alfero, a renowned spiritual teacher and shamanic practitioner who spearheaded the collaboration.
Transmission: An Anthology of Consciousness, Dreaming and Heart also features the stories of Jen Ziegner, Nicholette Routhier, Lauren Jane Heller, Stefanie Menack, Wendy Cirello, Erin Kinney and Janet Douglas. The book dives into each authors experience and touches upon Alferos specific technique for teaching practical consciousness known as recapitulation. Harris described it as a life assessment where events and relationships are viewed energetically to better understand them.
What were hearing from our readers is the different perspectives and versions of the journey helps people find themselves in the process. Im really proud of it, and us, she said.
Harris described the project as a journey filled with ups and downs, but rewarding, due to the nature of the stories presented. The communication between all of us was precisely what we needed, she stated. Personally, the hardest part is that theres a lot of vulnerable stuff in the stories. To show up and say look at how wild my life is is hard.
No stranger to spirituality or methods to deepen ones consciousness, Harris said she has been practicing for the majority of her life. She now holds a masters degree in spiritual science. She then began her career as a yoga teacher and started working with Alfero in 2020.
I did my first personal growth seminar when I was 8 years old, she said. My mom is really into spirituality, so its been something infused into my world for a long time Ive been immersed in spiritual endeavors in a practical way. Its always been a very practical set of questions Ive asked throughout my life: How does this actually matter on earth? How does this actually impact my life and the people I connect with?
The title of the book is a reference to the transmission of energy in all settings. It also represents the transmissions of each coauthors personal energy, depicted with nine symbols forming a circle on the books cover.
Each of those symbols is as close as we can get to a symbol of each persons transmission, Harris said. For example, Teo [Alfero] runs a wolf sanctuary and does wolf therapy and has done that for over 15 years. His transmission is very wolf-like.
For upcoming projects, Harris mentioned she is already in dialogue with her coauthors and Alfero about conducting a workshop based on the book. She hopes to do this in collaboration with a yoga studio based in Carbondale.

GET ACTIVE: Downward puppy brings added fun to yoga practice – Dayton Daily News
Posted: at 2:37 am
There is some level of physical activity, but some people just go to love on the puppies, said Brandi Knox, Paw Patrol director. Its so much fun.
Paw Patrol hosts puppy and kitten yoga events to support the organizations mission, to rescue and re-home neglected, abused or otherwise unwanted pets into loving homes. The fully volunteer-run, foster-based cat and dog rescue adopts out approximately 250 animals a year all breeds and all ages. From puppy mills to overpopulation to rehoming, the need has never been greater for fosters and animal adoptions according to Knox.
It is truly unprecedented, the number of animals in need right now, she said. Its a mix of animals adopted during the COVID pandemic that people cant care for now to the economy and people struggling financially, there are so many animals. Its the worst anyone in animal rescuing has seen.
Events like puppy yoga raise awareness as well as offer an enjoyable afternoon of yoga and puppy love.
Benefits for two-legged yogis
The National Institutes of Health has partnered with the Mars Corporations WALTHAM Centre for Pet Nutrition to research the physical and mental benefits of human-animal interactions.
Research has shown that interacting with animals can decrease levels of cortisol, a stress-related hormone, and lower blood pressure. Other studies have found animals can reduce loneliness, increase feelings of social support, and boost overall mood.
Studies are ongoing regarding animal interactions with kids who have autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) as previous research has shown a variety of benefits for children with those conditions.
Beyond the science, there are the smiles that are impossible to miss when a puppy scrambles through your legs or leaps onto your lap.
Benefits for four-legged yogis
Humans arent the only ones benefitting from the practice.
According to the American Kennel Club, socialization is an important benefit for the puppies. Interactions like puppy yoga can help the furry little yogis become more comfortable and confident around people. There can also be improvements in trainability and overall behavior.
Its great to get them socialized, having different people pick them up and handle them, Knox said. Its good for us to see how the puppy relates to different people so we can determine what a good home for them would be.

Columbia initiates Black Maternal Health Week with yoga in park – WACH.com
Posted: at 2:37 am
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH)
The City of Columbia, in collaboration with the Black Maternal Health Collective, recently announced a series of events for the inaugural Black Maternal Health Week. This initiative, aligned with the Black Mama's Matter Initiative, aims to raise awareness, promote activism, and foster community-building regarding Black maternal health issues in the United States.
One of the key events scheduled for Sunday, April 7, is "Yoga In the Park with Balloon Release." The session will take place at MLK Park, 2300 Greene Street, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Led by an instructor, this yoga session is dedicated to mothers and families impacted by losses due to maternal health inequities. It offers a peaceful environment for reflection and remembrance. Additionally, the event will feature a Balloon Release to honor those who have experienced loss and to foster community connections and mutual support.
At a press conference, officials highlighted the week's objectives, which include sparking conversations about Black maternal health, amplifying community-driven solutions, centering the voices of Black mothers and families, and providing a platform for Black-led efforts on maternal health and reproductive justice.
Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reveals concerning statistics about Black maternal health in the U.S. In 2021, the maternal mortality rate for non-Hispanic Black women stood at 69.9 deaths per 100,000 live births, which is 2.6 times higher than the rate for non-Hispanic White women. Moreover, Black women in the U.S. are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than White women. Alarmingly, CDC reports that over 80% of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable.
The Black Maternal Health Week events aim to shed light on these disparities and mobilize efforts towards improving maternal health outcomes for Black mothers and families.
