SAS education software is expanding
Posted: at 12:36 am
Software giant SAS announced today that more than 20,000 teachers and 8,000 schools registered for its free online education software in 2011.
Altogether, since it was launched in December 2008, 70,000 teachers and 18,000 schools have registered to use SAS Curriculum Pathways, the Cary company announced.
"SAS Curriculum Pathways is a powerful resource for teachers," CEO Jim Goodnight said in a release. "High school graduates today must be tech-savvy problem solvers prepared to navigate, read and comprehend digital content."
The software provides Web-based content in English, mathematics, science social studies and Spanish aimed at students in grades 6 through 12. With the release of an updated version last year, the software includes more than 200 interactive tools, 600 web-based lessons and 70 audio tutorials.
Earlier this month, the Oklahoma State Department of Education announced that it was collaborating with SAS to distribute its free software to teachers and students statewide. The software was recently named a top product by education publisher eSchool Media and by District Administration magazine.
SAS has 12,502 employees worldwide and is one of the Triangle's largest employers with 4,860 people in Cary. Last year its revenue grew 12 percent to $2.725 billion.
