Online "GED Certificates" Not Worth the Paper They're Printed on
Posted: at 7:32 pm
WASHINGTON, March 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Consumers are being deceived by fraudulent online "schools" offering high school credentials that have little or no value. GED Testing Service has filed a lawsuit to stop this abuse and protect those seeking to further their education.

"With the filing of this lawsuit, GED Testing Service has taken action to help protect adults who wish to improve their lives by earning a high school equivalency credential," said Randy Trask, president of GED Testing Service. "In these tough economic times, competition for jobs is intense and a high school credential is typically the minimum educational requirement for employment. It is reprehensible that fraudulent websites are taking advantage of those who are seeking a credential that will help them be better positioned to find jobs and support their families."
This lawsuit is not the first or only step GED Testing Service has taken to protect consumers from these scams. Over the last few years, GED Testing Service has issued alerts, provided information to states' attorneys general about fraudulent "test" providers, and shared information nationwide.
"Along with our efforts to educate those at risk of being scammed and with this lawsuit, we are asking the federal court to take action to protect well-intentioned adults," added Trask.
On February 14, 2012, in Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York, the lawsuit was filed jointly by GED Testing Service and the American Council on Education, which originated the GED test in 1942. The complaint alleges that a network of websites in connection with Senford High School and Sunshine High School are engaging in deceptive and misleading business practices to defraud consumers under state and federal law.
Through this action, GED Testing Service seeks to shut down the network of allegedly fraudulent websites and order these businesses to cease their illegal practices. GED Testing Service expects that court action will put other online programs on alert to alter their false advertising practices and misuse of the GED trademark.
These programs advertise widely on popular search engines and falsely promise a quick way to obtain an "alternative" high school credential, using the GED trademark to lend credibility to their scams.
The GED test must be taken in-person at an official GED testing center. Those individuals successfully passing the complete battery are issued a credential directly by the state. If the credential is not issued by the state, it is not associated with the GED testing program and is unlikely to provide any benefit to those seeking better jobs or admission to college.
Unfortunately, the activity in this case is not an isolated incident. Similarly misleading websites purport to offer a GED credential a fact that Denise Richardson knows all too well. "When the college admissions officer told me that my diploma wasn't valid, I was extremely disappointed and angry," said Richardson. After taking and passing the real GED test at an official GED testing center, Richardson has this advice for potential GED test-takers: "I was fortunate to have the support from my local adult education center. Everyone should use this new online resource from GED Testing Service to find official testing centers and to report suspicious websites. The only way to prevent possible fraud in the future is to educate people about this problem."

Pilates: Tough, but adaptable to the core
Posted: at 3:21 pm
With some fitness regimens, that first trip to the gym can nearly kill you.
Pilates, with its emphasis on core training and an abundance of moves, works the other way.
The first time is almost the easiest, says Alycea Ungaro, author of Pilates: Body in Motion.
It gets harder after that. Once you know what to do, the bar gets higher, the demand gets harder. You see things you're doing wrong and you fix them. You work harder.
Ungaro, who has been teaching Pilates for almost 20 years, says Pilates is one of the most adaptable forms of exercise.
We have exercises for people through every decade of their life or their condition, whether they're triathletes prepping for an event or people recovering from injury or postpartum, she says. It's a very malleable means of training. You can make it as hard or as easy as you wish.
Ungaro says that the classic Pilates mat routine is known for being effective in changing one's body. But many people find the complex choreography and multiple position changes too difficult to keep up with, she says. She suggests Pilates as a circuit.
By using just a handful of key moves and reducing them to their most intense positions, Pilates can be both simple and effective.
This six-minute circuit can be repeated three times for a thoroughly challenging 20-minute routine, she says. Take a 30-second rest between each full set.
Stand tall with your legs together tightly. Keep your heels together and toes slightly apart by squeezing your glutes and hold your arms genie' style forearms crossed at chest height. Begin quickly lifting one knee up at a time, replacing them just as fast and lightly as possible. Continue for 60 seconds. Hold body still as the legs work quickly and push off the floor with each lift bending the knee sharply into the body.

Yoga and positive thinking
Posted: at 3:20 pm
Positive thinking is considered in yoga a success sine qua non condition, whether it is about success in yoga practice or in any other benefic action we want to. The reason why yoga puts such a high price on positive thinking is the knowledge of the occult law of resonance. According to it, our thoughts put us in resonance (energy subtle connection) with different force secret spheres of the Universe and facilitate, thus, a transfer of energy from them to us.
By these mechanisms, which are perfectly real and infallible even if they are secret, man gradually becomes what he thinks he is, as the yoga wise aphorisms say. We create our success or failure in any direction we go with the help of our thoughts. We are the ones creating our happiness or misery; we are the ones responsible for our inner developing and our external behaviour.
The thoughts of success and score put us in resonance with the energy of success while chaotic, predominantly negative thoughts put us in resonance with energies of failure, mistake, and disappointment. If you carefully analyze the lucky or the successful ones, you will notice they are full of optimism and self confidence.
Positive thinking in Hatha-Yoga practice In order to easily progress in yoga practice, you must learn to think positive and to be optimistic. Never tell yourself: this yoga exercise is much too difficult for me. On the contrary, think yoga is a scientific discipline, that is, anyone who does it right reaches the mentioned results. By practice, patiently, you will be able to realize even the most spectacular asanas, the most difficult pranayama techniques.
Here is a very efficient practical modality: while you do a certain yoga posture that you cannot do very well for now (due to stiffness, lack of equilibrium), visualize yourselves or mentalize yourselves perfectly doing that asana. The subtle effects of the asana will be much increased and your progress will soon be visible!
Positive thinking in concentration and meditation exercises The same thing applies to any yoga exercises. If you are someone who does not focus very well, your mind being dispersed, if you cannot feel very well or at all the energy wheels or if you are not very good at the meditation techniques, perseveringly apply the principle of positive thinking! It is a way of proclaiming your confidence in yoga practice efficiency and in yourselves.
Always approach the meditation and concentration techniques with optimism and joy, feeling the freshness they produce when the mind is calm. Every time joyfully think with anticipation that meditation is an exercise that you like very much and that you can do better and better. All great yogis successes can be repeated and actualized in your being! For those who cannot directly feel the energy wheels or some of them, we have several supplementary positive ideas: all yoga trainees gradually come to feeling their energy wheels sooner or later. It is a thing certified by direct practical experience with yoga trainees. The wheels of energy can be felt in different ways: vibrations, pressure sensations, warming but other specific feelings also.
For instance, love is an obvious expression of Anahata Chackras dynamism. All persons who are in love feel something in their heart in Anahata Chakra actually! Think positive as you will succeed waking up and feeling your wheels of energy sooner! And do not neglect the importance of finding information on this topic; you must study very well the theory on the energy wheels.
Supernatural accomplishments? Why not? It is true, advanced yogis do not have the fascination of supernatural powers at all. But since some of them are very useful (empathy, telepathy, previous lives recognition), it is good to know that positive thinking can act here as a powerful engine propelling us towards success. So, think positive in everything good you want to do and study the example of those who already achieved that.
And in the end, a fundamental aspect: the goal of yoga practice is reaching the state of oneness with God, the ecstatic fusion with God Father, reaching the supreme spiritual absolution. Yoga definitely tells us it is perfect possible to reach this fundamental goal of life and yoga practice in this very life, on Earth, no matter the karmic conjunctures we were born with and we live in now. Do not think for just a minute that this is not possible! This is the power of the authentic spiritual paths. This is why you must think positive: you can reach the ultimate spiritual absolution in this very life if you want to and if you practice yoga with perseverance and devotion!

Yoga pants seller Lululemon 4Q net climbs 34 pct

NEW YORK (AP) Yoga clothing seller Lululemon Inc. said Thursday that its fourth-quarter profit jumped 34 percent on strong demand for its pricey wares. But its earnings outlook for the year fell shy of analyst estimates, and shares dipped.
For the quarter ended Jan. 29, Lululemon earned $73.5 million, or 51 cents per share, up from $54.8 million, or 38 cents per share, in the same three months a year earlier.
Revenue rose 51 percent to $371.5 million from $245.4 million.
The Canadian company's results beat Wall Street predictions. Analysts expected a profit of 48 cents per share on $360.2 million in revenue, according to a FactSet poll.
Revenue at stores open at least a year jumped 26 percent when the effect of changing currency values was excluded, while online sales more than doubled to $50.1 million.
Revenue at stores open at least a year is a key measure of a retailer's health because it excludes sales at newly opened or closed stores.
The company, which sells $98 yoga pants, has outperformed many of its competitors due to high demand for its yoga, running and other athletic gear. For the full year 2011, Lululemon earned $184.1 million, or $1.27 per share, up from $121.8 million, or 85 cents per share, in 2010. Revenue rose to $1 billion from $711.7 million.
But like other retailers, it's been dealing with higher costs and the effects of cautious consumer spending.
Lululemon projected a first-quarter profit in line with analysts' predictions, but its full-year earnings estimate fell short.
The company said it expects first-quarter net income of 28 cents or 29 cents per share on $265 million to $270 million in revenue, while analysts are predicting profit of 29 cents per share and $256.2 million in revenue.

Prulife Grows Premium By 33%
Posted: at 3:11 am
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Life Insurance arm of London-based Prudential Plc posted a 33 percent growth in total gross premium last year propelled by a more active and larger sales force and increased sales through brokers.
Pru Life UK's total gross premium income in 2011 was P10.4 billion, up from P7.8 billion in 2010. Of the amount, first-year premiums and single premiums amounted to P8.1 billion, an increase by 26.56 percent from P6.4 billion in the previous year and renewal premiums totaled P2.3 billion.
"Our improved performance was brought about by recruiting more financial advisers and increased productivity. We recruited over 1,000 agents in 2011. Furthermore, there was significant growth in the business brought to us by brokers," Antonio De Rosas, Pru Life UK president and chief executive said.
De Rosa also said Pru Life's new businesses were mostly made up of variable unit-linked insurance policies, accounting for about 94 percent and the remaining balance was made up of traditional policies.
In 2011, De Rosas added that Pru Life's net income also increased by 6.56 percent to P682 million from P640 million in the previous year.
De Rosas attributed the company's continued growth to its aggressive recruitment strategy, training and coaching programs for financial advisers, and the launch of innovative products.
These products are Pru Link Exact Protector, a revamped version of one of Pru Lige UK's bestselling unit-linked or investment-linked products, the PruLink Exact Plus.
"This year, we will be aggressively expanding our agency force," De Rosas said.
The company recruited more than 1,000 agents last year. De Rosas said they want to hire some more this year. To date, Pru Life UK has about 3,000 agents.
"This year we'll have much more than that. We're aggressively requiring agency force," De Rosas said.
