T. Rowe Price (Nasdaq: TROW) has launched its new Personal App for iPhone and iPod touch, which provides investors the ability to manage their accounts and view fund information.

Its launch follows that of the investment manager's Investor Magazine App for iPad, which came out earlier this year and gives free access to the company's quarterly magazine for mutual fund shareholders.

With the new app, individual investors and participants in employer-sponsored retirement plans can:

- Check account balances, including those associated with T. Rowe Price Brokerage and small business accounts; - View asset allocation charts; - Track fund performance; - Check the status of pending transactions; - Access T. Rowe Price investment insights and market news; - Conduct fund research.

Additionally, individual investors outside of an employer-sponsored retirement plan can conduct mutual fund transactions.

Todd Cleary, Vice President of T. Rowe Price Group, Inc. and director of the company's Retail Division, said, "The launch of the T. Rowe Price Personal App for iPhone and iPod touch continues our dedication to providing customers with the technology and mobile tools they need to stay connected with their investments in an increasingly mobile world. The app makes it easy for investors to manage multiple accounts and work with T. Rowe Price, with the same level of security they're used to experiencing on our website."

White Sox-Twins Preview

Posted: at 11:13 am

Gavin Floyd was suffering through a dismal personal stretch for the Chicago White Sox before a solid performance in his last outing.

Ending the major leagues' longest active losing streak against one team likely would make him feel even better.

Floyd looks to snap an eight-start skid versus the host Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night as the first-place White Sox try to bounce back from another empty offensive effort in the opener.

The right-hander ended a nightmarish personal run by holding the Cubs to four hits in 6 1-3 innings of a 7-0 win on Wednesday. He had gone 1-4 with a 10.38 ERA in his previous six starts, though he contends he wasn't pitching as poorly as the numbers indicated.

"It was frustrating,'' Floyd said. "There were games where I felt really good and (didn't) get the results. It's part of baseball, I guess.''

Floyd (5-7, 5.20 ERA), though, may have a tough time staying on track. He has an 8.86 ERA during his rough stretch against the Twins, allowing a season-worst nine runs in 3 2-3 innings of a 9-2 home loss to Minnesota on May 22.

The last pitcher to have a losing streak as long as Floyd's against one team was Jamey Wright, who lost nine straight starts against Houston from October 1, 2000-June 27, 2005.

"I guess I've got to figure that out,'' Floyd said after the latest dismal outing versus the Twins. "I wish I could pinpoint certain things. They have a good game plan against me apparently and I've got to change that and try to get them next time.''

The White Sox (38-35) may need to shake their offensive funk to help Floyd end the streak. They've scored one run in back-to-back games and have put up one or zero runs five times in their last eight.

Kevin Youkilis couldn't put a charge into the offense in his Chicago debut Monday, though he did have one of his new team's five hits in a 4-1 loss.

Akitio MyCloud Mini Personal Cloud Server

Posted: at 11:13 am

The Akitio My Cloud Mini Personal Server ($100, street) is a NAS that's a hybrid of local and cloud storage. The data you save to the internal drive or on attached USB or eSATA drives is accessible through the myakitio cloud service as long as you have an Internet connection. The MyCloud Mini is an intriguing little box with customization options and good features. The device is more likely to be embraced by those who like to spend time learning the nuances of their technology devices since not all configuration options and features are intuitive to set up, setup documentation needs work, and the interface is seriously wonky. The device is an interesting and decent NAS option overall, (though somewhat pricey for its capabilities) and the management interface seems like it could use a firmware upgrade, stat.

Specs MyCloud Mini is a small desktop form factor measuring 1.3 by 4.8 by 4.8 inches (HWD). The box is surprisingly heavyconsidering the sizeweighing a little over a pound. Aluminum housing gives the NAS a sturdy, if somewhat plain, appearance.

The front panel has the Akitio logo and one power LED. The rear panel has two USB 2.0 ports, an eSATA port, and a Gigabit Ethernet port. There's also a reset button, a power button, and a K-slot for physical security.

You can install a 2.5 inch SATA drive but you have to supply it yourself since the device ships diskless. Internal maximum storage capacity is 1.5TB. You can attach USB external drives formatted with FAT32, NTFS, HFS, EXT2, EXT3, EXT4, or XFS. The device also supports USB printers.

The internal SATA disk and the external eSATA drive being attached can be configured with RAID 0 or RAID 1 to expand capacity.

Setup The setup process leaves room for improvement. First, there isn't sufficient documentation about installing and configuring the SATA drive. There's no setup software, so you have to rely on the hard copy Quick Install guide that the NAS ships with, which has somewhat confusing instructions.

After installing the HDD, the guide instructs connecting the NAS to your network. The next step is to mount a partition from a newly installed SATA or USB drive from the Disk Manager. Although the guide does not specify how to get to Disk Manager, I found Disk Manager located within the Web-based management software. You have to login to the Web portal first, so the instructions seem a bit backward.

The web-based management portal is available at http://www.myakitio.com. To access, you have to enter the MAC address of the device and a username and password; all of which are located on a sticker at the bottom of the NAS. You can register the MyCloud Mini and give it an actual hostname, rather than use the MAC address every time to login. The Web interface, which is called iSharing, seems to have an issue handling a fresh install of a new drive. When I first accessed the management interface home page, I saw a spinning cursor. When the spinning stopped, I got the message, "Get data error."

When I clicked off the message, another window displayed that the system was running without a home partition and needed to be mounted. I clicked "Mount," but the system did not detect any drives. I decided to manually start up Disk Manager.

Disk Manager gives three options to configure disks: Auto, Advanced, and Expert. The latter two allow for manual configuration and with Auto, the system creates a suitable partition and formats the drives. Auto is the recommended option. I selected Auto and again, got the circling cursor, then a message on-screen: "Completed."

Proving social media success is all about analytics

The elusive social ROI. Executives demand it, marketers search for it.

But its actually not so elusive, especially for those marketers whove embraced the latest social technologies. In fact, there is a treasure trove of data available.

Perhaps, however, marketers should not be thinking old-school marketing metrics for todays social web. For social, its more about the ROE (return on engagement) than the ROI.

Theres no denying the importance of social for marketers, as Facebook closes in on 1bn consumers and Twitter tops 200m, not to mention emerging platforms like Google+, Instagram and Pinterest.

And as smartphone proliferation continues to rise, literally hundreds of millions of mobile consumers will make social networks their on-the-go portal. Mobile social will be the future and provide us an even more personal and detailed look at a consumer, virtually 24/7. Thats a lot of data.

By now, every major brand has a social presence. But proving exactly what that social presence is doing for your brand, and how it helps you reach our goals, should be priority number one for marketers.

Executives are asking for analytics to prove social ROI, but social is a completely different medium that requires a different way of looking. Executives might be looking for the old-school ROI but ROE can offer much more including brand awareness and loyalty that lay the foundations for invaluable consumer-to-brand relationships.

An engaged consumer can be much more powerful than a few sales, they can be a walking brand ambassador.

MELAKA (Herald Malaysia): When you add all the distractions and the pressures in todays world, Christian parenting becomes more than a challenge. A huge part of this challenge is passing on ones faith to their children who live in a society that is moving towards freedom from religion instead of freedom of religion.

Family man and old hand facilitator, Martin Jalleh backed his presentation with humour, and personal experiences in a two-hour two-way dialogue with parents whose children will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation at the parish of St Peters on July 1.

He said, First, as parents, you must live out your faith. It is impossible to give away something you do not have or possess. Children these days can spot a phony from a mile away. They are looking for the real deal from their parents. Living your faith can start with simple things like showing love, kindness, generosity, sharing time, exchanging views and just being involved with them. If your young ones see you finding ways to be a blessing, it will become a natural and normal way of life for them too.

Then you can also share your faith in their lives. Being a part of an active church shows your young ones that spending time with God is important. Another great way to share your faith with your children is to allow them the opportunity to make and develop Christian friendships by attending parish organised activities and gatherings.

Jalleh also commented that present day culture advocates strong parental involvement in pushing children to ever greater heights of success in studies, music, sports, and careers. However, by the law of averages, not every child will attain greatness, but that does not mean every child is destined to live an unsuccessful life, he added.

Some parents want their child to become exceptional at something versus a child with well-balanced and rounded life experiences.

Just enjoy everything as children are gifts from God and so are their abilities and talents. Also it is good to remind children that just because you are on top now, does not mean you will be on top later. Likewise, on the flip side, just because you are at the bottom now does not mean you will have to stay there always.

One of the major problem I see in our culture is that parents measure success in the wrong way, such as getting a good job, a nice home and family. We Christians put so much effort into the more secular side of success, but the measure of success for our culture do not always reflect the values we ought to have as believers in Christ.

Parents these days are tied to their childrens successes or failures. We view failure as a reflection of our ability as a mother or father. We need to separate our own identities from our children.

I think so many people feel they have to define their kids now, but we need to remember that Gods view is so different. It is not the achievement that is important, but the character that is developed through success and failure.

From conception to creation, an entrepreneur’s journey to success

Posted: at 11:12 am

Like many before him, hopeful entrepreneur Jason worked on a business he wanted to launch while in Dr. Cornwall's program. His plan was to move to Montana and open a coffee shop. However, as is often the case, nothing went according to plan

In May of 2005 Jason Duncan walked across the stage at Belmonts graduation. At that moment he became the first alumnus of our new entrepreneurship program.

Jeff is the Jack C. Massey Chair in Entrepreneurship and Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn.

Like many who have followed him, Jason had worked on a business he wanted to launch while studying in our program. His plan was to move to Montana and open a coffee shop. He even had a name for his coffee shop EVOKE.

However, as is often the case, nothing went according to plan.

Try as they might, he and his wife Jenni were never able to open their coffee shop in Montana. But they did find a way to get into the coffee business. Since every attempt to open a store seemed to meet a roadblock, they adjusted their business model and opened EVOKE as a mobile coffee catering business.

EVOKE did not set out to be a mobile coffee catering company, said Jason. But what we found out is that we grew up doing this, made money, and knew that we now had a foundation to stand up on.

Although they had success with their mobile coffee catering business in Montana, in 2008 they decided that their best chance for long term success was to move EVOKE to Jasons home town of Oklahoma City.

When we moved EVOKE to Oklahoma City, we knew we had two options: to work our tails off and learn from our mistakes in Montana or shut EVOKE down and move on, said Jason. We knew we could be better. We took the first option and worked tirelessly to run a solid company based on what we had planned years ago.

Jason and Jenni realized they would have to adapt their business model once again in this new market.
