The founder of Planet Fitness is bringing a new health club to northeast Phoenix.
Rick Berks, founder of YouFit, a new fitness center, is opening a location in July.
YouFit is based in St. Petersburg, Fla. The newest location will open in the strip mall on the southeast corner of Tatum Boulevard and Greenway Road.
YouFit hopes to open five more Valley locations, according to its website. Locations in Mesa, Tempe, Gilbert, Peoria and Tolleson are expected before the end of the year. There are locations at 16th Street and Bethany Home Road in Phoenix, 35th Avenue and Bethany Home Road in Phoenix, Glendale and Chandler.
"We've had success really everywhere we've gone. We space them out. It's not an exact science," Berks said. "We do retro fits of buildings and go to different markets and look for sites that will work for us."
The chain has nearly 50 locations under construction nationally.
Like many boutique gyms that have popped up in northeast Phoenix, YouFit markets itself as a fitness center for "regular people."
"Our clubs are geared more to the average person who is going to get in shape," Berks said. "We're more fitness-oriented. It's not geared towards the bodybuilder type or the triathlete or professional athletes."
Bob Glazar, 58, lives in central Phoenix and joined the YouFit at 16th Street and Bethany Home Road after his previous gym raised its rates.

Guardian Retirement Solutions™ Launches New 401(k) Fee Disclosure Website
Posted: at 4:28 am
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
The Guardian Insurance & Annuity Company, Inc. (GIAC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian) today announced the launch of a new website to help plan sponsors and plan participants navigate the increasingly complex 401(k) marketplace.
Effective July 1, 2012, The Department of Labors (DOLs) new requirements for plan service providers to begin providing plan sponsors with enhanced fee disclosure went into effect. Guardian Retirement Solutions launched Understanding Plan Fees (www.guardianretirement.com/understandingfees) to provide information and tools to help plan participants and plan sponsors understand their retirement plan fees, the services they pay for and the value the different service providers bring to the table. The website is open to any individual or company.
Simply providing a statement without any explanation has the potential to confuse and frustrate plan participants. Guardians website educates the consumer by providing information on not only the fees they are paying but the services and value that different players involved in administering a 401(k) provide, said Jason Frain, Vice President, 401(k) Product Management and Development, Retirement Solutions. At the end of the day, its important for sponsors and participants to understand who is working on their behalf to ensure they have a tax-deferred benefit to save for retirement.
The Guardian website includes a host of tools and educational resources, including:
Shortly following the changes on July 1, plan sponsors will begin providing their participants with annual and quarterly information about plan and investment fund fees and expenses. Fee disclosure focuses on the DOLs initiatives to increase transparency surrounding plan and investment expenses as they impact plan sponsors and participants.
Its impossible to assess the fees on your 401(k) statement unless you understand the services different providers are performing. Guardians Understanding Plan Fees (www.guardianretirement.com/understandingfees) lays out in plain English the team of players who each provide unique services and expertise to create a great retirement solution, said Frain. . In the final analysis, its important to understand the value you receive for the fees you pay.

US High Performance Composites Market
Posted: at 4:28 am
NEW YORK, July 2,2012 /PRNewswire/ --Reportlinker.com announces that a new market research report is available in its catalogue:
US demand to grow 15% annually through 2016
US demand for high performance composites -- polymer materials containing advanced fiber reinforcements -- is forecast to grow 15 percent per year to $10.3 billion in 2016. Advances will represent a considerable improvement over the pedestrian growth of the 2006- 2011 period, during which time composite demand was hampered by a weak aerospace market and declines in military applications. Going forward, high performance composite demand will be aided by strong growth in the commercial airliner market, as well as emerging opportunities in applications such as wind turbines and pressure vessels. However, the high cost and labor-intensive production of advanced composites compared to competitive materials will prevent these materials from penetrating more highvolume and price-sensitive applications. High performance composites are high strength, high stiffness materials that feature lighter weight and better durability than aluminum and other metals. Historically, these composites have been confined to military uses and high-end sporting goods due to their much higher prices compared to conventional glassfiber composites and metals. However, better production processes, the development of lower-cost carbon fibers, and a greater focus on lighter-weight components have allowed advanced composites to attract more widespread attention.
Aerospace, wind turbine markets to see best growth
Aerospace markets will remain the leading outlet for high performance composites in 2016, and will be by far the fastest-growing market. While composites have long been used in military aircraft and helicopters, they are beginning to penetrate the commercial airliner segment on a large scale as well. In particular, the production ramp up of the Boeing 787 DREAMLINER, which has more than 50 percent composite content, will stimulate the bulk of gains in high performance composite demand. Rising production of other composite-intensive aircraft, such as the Airbus A380 and A350 XWB, will also benefit demand. Outside of the aerospace applications, a strong area of growth for high performance composites is the burgeoning wind energy market. In wind energy, advances will be fueled by rising wind turbine installations as states seek to meet renewable energy generation standards, as well as increased use of carbon fiber composites. Much slower growth is expected for defense and safety applications -- due to reduction of combat forces in Iraq and Afghanistan -- and the highly mature sporting goods market. The motor vehicle market, which holds perhaps the greatest potential for high performance composites, will see only moderate gains in demand, as widescale, large-volume use of automotive composites will continue to be restrained by high cost and slow production speeds.
Carbon fiber composites to remain dominant
Among product types, carbon fiber composites will continue to account for the largest portion of demand, totaling 84 percent of the high performance market in 2016. Carbon fiber composites will benefit from robust growth in the aerospace market, as well as their versatility, good balance of mechanical properties, and moderate cost compared with other high performance composites. S-glass fiber composites -- the lowest-priced of all advanced composites -- will also see double-digit gains in demand, fueled by opportunities in aerospace, wind energy, and pressure vessel markets. More moderate gains are forecast for composites based on aramid and other fibers, restrained by the slower-growing defense and safety composites market.
Study coverage
This upcoming industry study, High Performance Composites, presents historical demand data (2001, 2006, 2011) plus forecasts for 2016 and 2021 by fiber, market and resin. The study also considers market environment factors, assesses industry structure, evaluates company market share and profiles US industry competitors.

Adam Levine describes past drug use as "valuable, beneficial experience"
Posted: at 4:26 am
Adam Levine has been very chatty as of late, letting the general public in on all sorts of personal information including his revelation that he believes he is very deserving of all of his success.
However, the star has gone a little deeper in revealing how experimenting with drugs in his past provided a "valuable and beneficial" life lesson for the singer. The Maroon 5 front-man says,
"I definitely, firmly believe that the experience I had on mushrooms made me understand certain things about myself that I probably wouldn't have otherwise...What I took away from that experience was valuable and beneficial to me. It really forced me to look at myself."
Adam went on to say that taking mushrooms helped him to reconnect with the "wonderment" he experienced as a child and began to lose in adulthood. The singer continued,
"It's so corny to say but it's true; you just get in touch with the wonderment you have as a kid that you tend to lose. Obviously if you abuse a drug like that you'll never come back and end up as a f**king psychotic maniac."
Adam has enjoyed enormous success in his band Maroon 5, but unlike some bands of today, he's not quick to dispel their rapid, mainstreamsuccessas a cop-out. The star dismissed the notion that mainstream recognition is "uncool", saying,
"Aspiring to pop success is not a bad thing...Some bands seem to be shy about going for it. For a time, it became uncool to try...When we were making Overexposed, we were embracing who we are - a band that plays pop."

Georgiou Group is a privately owned, national civil infrastructure, building construction, and property development company that has harnessed over 30 years of success through sustained growth and strategic decision making.
Entering the Western Australia resource sector in 2007, Georgiou began diversifying the scope and scale of its projects following the development of the groups mining services business unit. A determined contractor, Georgiou exceeded expectations through targeted capability in civil and building services, and provision of earthmoving equipment to the resources industry.
The addition of the mining services business unit to the companys overall business structure transformed Georgiou into a complete turnkey operation which enticed the company to seek opportunity in Queensland in 2008 and Victoria shortly thereafter.
Over the past five years, Georgiou has finessed its formula of project experience and thought leadership into a service offering that meets the demands of a booming Western Australia and Queensland resources market.
The groups future will see strategic planning expand at depth, increasing the experience of the organisation and venturing into the oil and gas sector.

Online Classes Cut Costs, But Do They Dilute Brands?

Universities are delving into online education as a way to cut costs and take in more students. But questions remain as to whether online teaching will bring the same kind of education to students.
The University of Virginia may have settled its most urgent controversy by reinstating President Teresa Sullivan after initially forcing her out. But still unresolved is one issue underlying her ouster: whether the university was too slow to join the stampede of schools into the world of online education.
Many other schools share the concern and wonder if the technology will live up to its hype.
Rollins College in Florida was one of the early pioneers of online learning. It's one of 16 Southern schools using technology to share courses and professors. Rollins President Lewis Duncan says it's easy to understand how neighbors may be fretting about "not keeping up with the whizzes."
"There's the old saying that for any organization when the outside world is changing faster than the inside world, you're moving backwards," Duncan says.
Add in the financial pressure on universities and their need to find new ways of doing business, and it's not hard to see how anxiousness could turn into panic. Especially with each new venture launched, such as Coursera with Stanford, Princeton and others and edX, a partnership between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard.
"Certainly it got everyone's attention, and I think schools that don't try and find their place in that will be left behind," Duncan says.
While it used to be just a relative few who paid MIT tens of thousands in tuition to take Electronics 6002, today anyone in the world can take Electronics 6002X online free.
