California Wow faces fraud suit
Posted: at 1:13 pm
Members of the embattled health Club California Wow (CAWOW) on Sunday filed fraud charges against the bankrupt fitness operator for allegedly failing to provide the services agreed upon and to refund their membership fees.
The charges were filed with the Consumer Protection Police Division by about 50 members of the financially troubled health club accompanied by Saree Ongsomwang, secretary-general of Foundation for Consumers.
Ms Saree said her foundation had received complaints from 587 affected members under life-long, yearly and monthly membership contracts demanding a total of more than 30 million baht in compensation from the company.
CAWOW went into bankruptcy earlier this year and closed most of its club branches. Now It only has three facilities operating two located in Siam Paragon and Esplanade shopping centres in Bangkok and the other in Chiang Mai province.
The complainants living in Bangkok said it was inconvenient to travel to the two remaining facilities after the club branches near their residences had been closed down and they wanted to cancel their memberships. However, the company did not give any response when they demanded their membership fees be refunded.
They also said the company was still recruiting new members even though it was facing financial problems and was now under a business rehabilitation plan.As a result, the members saw this asfraud, Ms Saree added.
The Foundation for Consumers chief believed many affected people have not filed complaints yet because the fitness operator had more than 100,000 members nationwide.

'Orgy' club boss applies to council for health and fitness licence
Posted: at 1:13 pm
ROBERT McCLURE opened the venue near Glasgow city centre seven weeks ago and makes hundreds of pounds each week from organising seedy sex parties.
A SAUNA boss asking council officials to give him a health and fitness licence is making a fortune from cash-for-sex orgies.
Robert McClure
Robert McClure opened his 40 Fox Street club in Glasgow seven weeks ago.
It is advertised as a unique gay and bisexual venue. But we can reveal that 52-year-old McClure makes hundreds of pounds each week from organising seedy sex parties.
Titled Greedy Girls Night, he takes 20 from men to have sex with up to three women at his club. McClure, from Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, holds the nights twice a week and regularly attracts more than a dozen men.
Last month, McClure applied for a Public Entertainment (Health and Fitness) Licence. The permit lets businesses operate as a gym, sauna or massage parlour.
Licensing sources say McClures sideline would torpedo his chances and land him in trouble with police. A council source said: If the premises were to be operating in the suggested manner, then they may be committing an offence.
The club, near the St Enoch Centre, is accessed through a large metal front door with a security entry.
When our investigator was buzzed in, McClure took 40 for entry, claiming it covered a years membership.

Sex / Health / Fitness: When looking for love, what’s with all the hate?

So Ill admit, I have an on / off again relationship with Grindr which Im sure is commonly shared amongst members of our community. My biggest qualm though isnt what youd think no, its not the countless headless torsos, weirdoes or instability of the app itself. Its all this internalised homophobia.
Cmon guys, what with all this No Femmes, No Asians, White only, Str8 Acting bullshit Im seeing? In the time Ive had the app, Ive come across an alarming number of profiles with this type of prolific racism and discrimination and its only getting worse, scarier is the fact that its somehow deemed acceptable amongst the user base.
Somehow it seems we have de-regulated traditional means of human interaction by creating a virtual environment where hiding behind a profile picture (that usually looks nothing like its user weve all had that experience, right?) and witty pick-up lines is an acceptable place for hurtful and unnecessary commentary.
Its only getting worse. Its somehow deemed acceptable amongst the user base.
Internalised homophobia and oppression is generally used to describe when an individual has been taught that heterosexuality is the way to be. Usually growing up in an environment that has created a perception that a certain type of masculinity and femininity is the correct portrayal of those genders. Even though these individuals may come out and be active members of our community, they bring with them, a certain perception of what is deemed acceptable for a man and woman to be.
Ive experienced it first hand with a guy I dated a little while ago, we caught up after things fizzled out between us and he was telling me about a new guy he was seeing (some guys move faster than others I guess) whilst I scoffed down on my Baskin Robbins. He went on to say that he met the new guys friends and one of them dressed strangely wearing heels to be exact.
He went on to say how completely wrong that was; somewhat trying to engage me into agreeing with him which I completely had no intention of doing. In his mind, a man shouldnt wear heels with the simple justification of it not being manly, but who was he to sit there and judge a complete stranger on the basis of his own perception of masculinity? I went on to state that being two young gay men living openly and facing adversity everyday, we should not be initiating negative judgment on those who are different dont you agree?
Weve got idiots in parliament saying that if our unions can be marriages we will open doors for beastliest (Oh, I cant believe that guy was serious I mean really Cory Bernardi? Really? ), our community has an alarming youth suicide rate and with the general inequality we face in our daily lives why are we, members of our beautiful and diverse community perpetuating this internalised hate? Vilifying people because of who they are, havent we all lived through enough to know that this is wrong?
Whether its an app, a comment or a conversation We shouldnt be casting the first stone.

Marching toward health: Camp Ripley hosts Wednesday wellness fair

CAMP RIPLEY -- The Minnesota National Guard will host a health and wellness fair for the soldiers and civilians who work on or at Camp Ripley from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Camp Ripley is a 53,000-acre regional training facility about 40 miles north of St. Cloud for military, federal, state, local and civilian communities, according to officials. The event will be at the Training and Community Center.
"Our intent is to deliver wellness information to our employees holistically, so the event doesn't just span physical fitness, which is what a lot of people think of when they think of soldiers, here, in the Army," said Andrea Foote, state occupational health nurse for the Minnesota National Guard.
More than 40 vendors covering areas such as nutrition and mental health will be at the post, which served as a training location for the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Department of Natural Resources and Department of Transportation. The event will include giveaways and food samples.
"We're reaching out to soldiers and civilians to do some diabetes screening because that's a huge issue, not only for us but nationwideand so we're really not that different from people who work out and about outside Camp Ripley," she said.
Camp Ripley is preparing for heavy use by military units from around the state and nation, including troops from Illinois, Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming, North Dakota and Georgia, according to the Minnesota National Guard website.
"There are some soldiers who are out here working in maintenance and garage bays all day long and are on their feet and then there is someone like me who is a civilian here who probably sits behind a desk 75 percent of the time," Foote said.

Hiring personal trainer?
Posted: at 1:12 pm
Q: I am having trouble sticking with an exercise routine, mainly because I am bored with what I do and I can't seem to figure out what else to try. Would hiring a trainer be beneficial? How do I know who to hire?
Sam Mendoza, Denver, Colo. A: Fortunately, the perception that trainers are only for Hollywood stars with bodacious amounts of time and money is fading. There is some expense in hiring a trainer. But most fitness facilities offer a free introductory session with a trainer to familiarize new members with what is available.
To find out if you need or could benefit from the services provided by a personal trainer ask yourself these questions:
Is my current program effectively helping me reach my goals?
Am I bored with it or still challenged?
Am I familiar and comfortable with the equipment and other fitness tools required by my program?
Do I feel safe when exercising, secure that my form is good?
If you answered yes to these questions, then this may not be the right time to hire a trainer at least not yet. Treat yourself to a massage instead. If you answered no, then it would be advantageous to consider some professional help.
Once you have made the decision, take a little time and do some interviewing. Personal compatibility is crucial. If you like to chat during your workout but the trainer seems to be more of a "drill sergeant," keep shopping.
And there is much more to trainer/client satisfaction than compatible personalities. Here are more important issues to discuss according to Provida Life Sciences (www.provida.com):

Much to do to keep data private

While the Government gets set to enforce the Personal Data Protection Act, all involved should comply with the provisions of the Act now instead of adopting a wait and see' attitude.
SINGAPORE recently had the first reading of its Personal Data Protection Act in Parliament. Many in the republic were buoyed by the development, confident that the passing of the bill should be just around the corner.
Surprisingly, Singapore lags behind Malaysia in this matter; Malaysia is the first country in the South-East Asian region to draft such a bill way back in 2000. Our Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) was gazetted in 2010 after gestating through several public consultations and revisions.
Long overdue
However, now that the sunrise period before the law takes effect for the Information, Communications and Culture Ministry to train personnel and put procedures in place is fast fading, many are asking when our law will be enforced. Especially since it appears that the Ministry has just missed the deadline.
In February, Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim had announced that the Act would be enforced by the middle of this year.
We are now in the second half of the year and there has been no news of the impending implementation of the PDPA. When contacted, all that ministry sources would say is that enforcement details would be announced as early as next month.
Universiti Malaya's data protection law expert Prof Abu Bakar Munir says it is imperative that the Act is enforced soon as all our personal information is fast flowing out there, making its security a big concern.
With petabytes of data transferred and stored on a daily basis, personal data is the new oil of the Internet and the new currency of the digital world. That is why people are concerned about privacy, especially when they transact online, he said at a recent media forum on the PDPA's enforcement hosted by security firm Symantec.
Due to the growth of the social media network and mobile devices, users around the world send around 47 billion (non-spam) email and 95 million tweets daily. Each month, users share about 30 billion pieces of contents on Facebook.

Take a stressful task like homework and combine it with a stress buster like yoga and what do you have? Prana Yoga Center in Geneva calls it the OmWork Club.
The center is developing the after-school program as a way for area teens to develop a yoga habit while also having the space to do homework or form study groups.
Its all part of the centers goal to be invested in healthy community growth, according to Lori Glazebrook, who heads the OmWork Club and serves as the centers marketing and promotions manager.
Prana Yoga Center has been in business in Geneva for 11 years, offering various yoga styles from Power Vinyasa to Yin. But the homework club represents a different twist on an ancient relaxation and strength practice.
Unfortunately there are not many similar programs for teens, and this is why I am committed to creating one in our community, said Glazebrook, who gets help from her husband, Jimmy, also a yoga instructor.
I used to be a Girl Scout leader and taught yoga to the girls in my troop, she added. I noticed a difference in their concentration and ability to unwind after practicing.
Glazebrook is planning a free open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the center, 321 Stevens St., to introduce teens and their families to the program, which will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. each Thursday, starting Oct. 11. Cost is $18 per two-hour session.
