Russell Brand's all night yoga sessions
Posted: at 9:19 am
Russell Brand has swapped partying for all night yoga sessions and recently entered his local studio at 2am and didn't leave until 7am.
The former heroin addict - who this year celebrates 10 years since he successfully completed rehab treatment - recently went to his local yoga studio at 2am for a marathon five-hour session.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: 'Forget wild partying or all-night bonking, Russell went on solo yoga enlightenment.
'He turned up alone at his local yoga studio at 2am, let himself in and meditated until 7am.'
Perhaps Russell likes to meditate alone as it was recently claimed his love life is 'the talk of his yoga class'.
He met a number of his former lovers at the class including Jordana Brewster's sister Isabella and Mexican artist Oriela Medellin and the British comedian was spotted kissing a pretty brunette as he left the studio in Los Angeles last month.
A source said: 'Russell arrived at yoga with his new girl and they shared a big kiss in his car after the class.
'His antics are the talk of his yoga class.
'He was spotted with a girl after his lesson last week too. He had just left the class and was all over her in a nearby caf.'

Classroom Yoga Helps Improve Behavior Of Kids With Autism

Yoga is increasingly being used in classrooms across the U.S. to help kids behave and perform better in school.
Yoga is increasingly being used in classrooms across the U.S. to help kids behave and perform better in school.
Researchers have found that kids with autism spectrum disorder who did yoga at their elementary school behaved better than kids with autism who weren't doing yoga.
The researchers surveyed teachers at a school in the Bronx who said a daily yoga program reduced the kids' aggressive behavior, social withdrawal and hyperactivity.
Kristie Patten Koenig, an assistant professor of occupational therapy at New York University who led the study, says that yoga was effective because it seems to play to the strengths of kids with autism, while also reducing stress.
"We know that anxiety fuels a lot of the negative behavior, so the yoga program gives them a strategy to cope with it," Koenig tells Shots. "And if it's done every morning, it becomes an integral part of the day that sets the status of the classroom and allows the kids to become calm, focused and ready to learn."
According to the researchers, yoga is increasingly being used in classrooms across the U.S. to get kids to behave and perform better in school. Early research suggests that yoga exercises help kids concentrate and focus, and improves their strength, motor coordination and social skills.
The Bronx school had the the kids follow a specific routine each morning, five days a week, for 17 minutes. The routine: mats out, breathe deep, assume yoga poses, tense and relax muscles, and, finally, sing. The researchers studied the program for 16 weeks and compared the kids in the program with a control group of kids doing a standard morning routine. Their finding? Teachers said that the kids doing yoga exhibited significantly fewer problematic behaviors overall.
Many researchers argue that kids with autism need behavioral therapies early on, when they do the most good. Intensive interventions like the Early Start Denver Model, which has therapists work with children in their homes four hours a day, five days a week, also appear to be effective.

Legendary coach speaks

Wyat Taylor/The Daily EvergreenCoach Herman Boone delivers a speech to the students Wednesday in the CUB's senior ballroom.
Inspirational football coach Herman Boone shared life lessons he learned while coaching the famous 1971 Titans to a crowded CUB Senior Ballroom on Wednesday night.
Boone, whose life was portrayed by Denzel Washington in the movie Remember the Titans, spoke to the students not only about the game of football and the movie, but also everything he learned from the team.
These young boys called the Titans broke the mold in Virginia, Boone said. They took risks and showed the world that they were not afraid to take the plunge for what they believed in. By doing so they created trust among themselves, and that trust became respect, and that respect became the emotional glue that binds that football team together then, and today.
Boone made the audience laugh with his stories of the Titians, including some of the differences between real life and the movie. He told the crowd that he did not make the team run through the swamps of Gettysburg at 3 a.m. but in fact had them ride the bus there at 9 p.m.
Boone spoke on other subjects, such as his marriage, and touched some students in ways they did not expect.
People, I think, expected a lot about football, and about leadership and education, and just the typical things that you were taught in the movie, said Avery Hutcherson, a senior digital technology major who attended the lecture. But I think the thing that stood out to me the most was when he spoke about his wife. Marriage isnt a normal thing anymore. It's not a sacred pack between a man and a woman. The way that he spoke about his wife, saying that he was married to her for 49 years, and how he couldnt wait to wake up every morning just to make her laugh, was probably one of the sweetest things every woman and man needs to hear.
Another aspect of Boones lecture that left a mark with students was his approach on how to gain respect from others. Boone emphasized creating dialogue between different cultures and creating trust.
I think that is something that will stick with me throughout my time here at WSU and throughout my life, about opening up and creating that dialogue with someone that you dont know, or with someone that you dont like, and learning to gain that respect, said Christina Turner, a senior communication major.
Boone advised students to never back down in the face of adversity.

If Texas Bans Planned Parenthood, The Fallout May Be Huge
Posted: at 11:19 pm
They say things are bigger in Texas, and apparently its true. The state may suffer a whopping $6 million loss if Planned Parenthood clinics are no longer part of the Womens Health Program, and tens of thousands of women could be without care.
Thats the word from a George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services report that analyzed the fallout from a Republican-led plan to kick Planned Parenthood out of the states Womens Health Program. The program, a family planning and health system that started in 2005, is run under a waiver from Medicaid and serves about 100,000-plus low-income women.
In a broader perspective, its a little sad to me that not very long ago, there had been a political compromise about family planning a birth control services, with conservatives and liberals agreeing that it was a good thing to help women take control of their reproductive choices and also decrease the need for abortions, Leighton Lu, director of the schools Center for Health Policy Research told TakePart.

Within the year that social contract has appeared to unravel, and there have been stronger attacks on family planning and birth control. I thought this was something everyone could agree on.
The Womens Health Program offers birth control and basic screenings for illnesses such as diabetes and cancer. It has always excluded institutions that offer abortions, and the Planned Parenthood clinics that were part of the program didnt provide them, so they were allowed in.
But according to the Austin American-Statesman, in February of this year state officials made a new rule saying that healthcare providers that were even associated with organizations that provided or promoted abortions were to be excluded.
Medicare and Medicaid decided this wasnt in line with existing laws that allowed women to choose their own healthcare providers, so they yanked the funding, which constituted 90 percent of the budget for the Womens Health Program with them.

The state said it would continue backing the program with state money. However, two lawsuits ensued: Texas is suing the federal government, and a number of Planned Parenthood affiliates are suing the state of Texas.
