GENESEE COUNTY The I- 69 International Trade Corridor Next Michigan Development Corporation (NMDC), a regional economic development effort consisting of 35 communities from across St. Clair, Lapeer, Genesee and Shiawassee counties, has granted the first PA 328 Personal Property Tax Exemption to Pinnacle Foods Group LLC, a leading producer, marketer and distributor of highquality branded food products that manufactures pickles, peppers and relish in Imlay City.

The approval marks the first PA 328 exemption granted by a NMDC in the State of Michigan.

Imlay City, along with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and the Lapeer Development Corporation, has been working to recruit the expansion to Imlay City since early 2012.

In May 2012, the company announced the expansion would occur in Imlay City, Michigan, to consolidate pickle production.

This project will have a very positive impact on the Imlay City and Lapeer County regional economy. We are thrilled that Pinnacle Foods Group LLC has chosen Imlay City for this project, said Patricia Lucas, Executive Director of the Lapeer Development Corporation.

The Imlay City project will increase capacity, upgrade existing manufacturing capabilities, and improve efficiencies. The company will create 29 new jobs at the facility.

These jobs will be added to the current workforce of 249 full-time employees and approximately 300 seasonal positions. Several hundred additional seasonal positions are also expected to be created as a result of the expansion.

Pinnacle Foods Group utilizes trucking and rail transportation for shipping their products from the facility, qualifying the company as an eligible NMDC business under the terms of PA 328.

European Council Promotes Personal Data Protection In Latin America

MONTEVIDEO, Nov 1 (BERNAMA-NNN-MERCOPRESS) -- The Council of Europe is promoting international co-operation in the field of personal data protection, particularly by encouraging non member states to ratify the Convention for the protection of individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data, also known as Convention 108.

Uruguay has started the process for its ratification and therefore may become the first non-Council of Europe member state to accede to the convention.

Head of the human rights policy and development department of the Council of Europe, Jorg Polakiewicz was recently in Uruguay for the 34th International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners, which took place in Punta del Este.

"The eventual accession of Uruguay will be a key step towards the global promotion of the convention and intergovernmental cooperation on personal data protection", said Polakiewicz, and added: "We are sure, hopefully, that Uruguay will be the first of many non-European countries to join the treaty".

This convention is the first binding international treaty which protects individuals against abuses which may accompany the collection and processing of personal data. Created in 1981, it remains the only legally-binding standard which has the potential to be applied worldwide, providing legal certainty and predictability in international relations and open for signature by any country.

The convention formulates a number of core data protection principles to be transferred to their national legislation, with the aim of ensuring that personal data are obtained and processed fairly and lawfully, stored for specified and legitimate purposes, preserved in a form which permits its identification for no longer than is required and that any person is enable to access, rectify or delete their personal data.

An additional protocol demands to each signing Party to designate an independent authority to ensure the implementation of the data protection principles and imposes some restrictions on transborder flows of personal data to States where legal regulation does not provide equivalent protection.

The Council of Europe, an intergovermental organisation based in Strasbourg (France) which brings together 47 states, is inviting non-member-states to request access to the Convention, which has already been ratified by 44 States.

The World Day of Architecture celebration was initiated by the Union Internationale des Architectes (UIA) or International Union of Architects which is an international federation of national associations of architects with headquarters in Paris.

Since its founding in 1948, it has grown to encompass the key professional organizations of architects in 124 countries and territories, and counts some 1.3 million members worldwide today.

In 1996, the UIA decided to celebrate the World Day of Architecture on the first Monday of October of each year. This is the same day that the UN observes World Habitat Day in order to reflect on the state of human settlements and the basic right to adequate shelter for all.
