Mumbai residents spread awareness about fitness, walk for health
Posted: at 9:51 am
Mumbai, Nov.4 (ANI): In a bid to urge people to make walking a habit, Mumbai residents participated in a walkathon on Sunday to bring about a long term and sustainable behavioural change in their lives.
The multi-city initiative 'Walk for Health' was announced by Max Bupa Health Insurance Company to inculcate fitness into the lives of people, so that they place health above everything else.
The walkathon has already been a success in several cities. The company has planned to cover 11 cities and participants from all age groups could register for the event.
In the humdrum of life, we often tend to neglect our health. An erratic lifestyle with wrong eating habits leads to several kinds of lifestyle diseases like hypertension, diabetes and obesity.
"The idea is to encourage a healthy lifestyle. I think in urban India, a lot of people take a sedentary lifestyle and that leads to a lot of diseases like hypertension, diabetes or something else. Our view is that we really want to encourage people and create awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle and to adopt walking. It is something, which is very easy to do. You can walk in the office, in your house, park, wherever you like. So, the idea is to encourage people to live a healthier lifestyle," said Gagan Bhalla, Director, Operation and Strategy, Max Bupa.
Walking is an easy form of exercise, which can be done at one's own convenience. The inclusion of any form of physical exercise can result in several health benefits in the long run.
Adopting walking as a permanent habit could be a solution. According to reports, if we swapped one car journey a week to walking, traffic levels would reduce by at least 10 per cent.
Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor, who is riding high on the success of his latest comedy caper 'Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana' was seen flagging off the event.
The actor, a self-confessed fitness freak, said that this was a good initiative to inculcate walking as a habit.
"Well, I think it's a wonderful campaign. It is a good initiative, because I believe that everyone must exercise and walking is the easiest form of exercise. Anyone can do it at any age," he said.

Health and Fitness: Is kettlebell training for you?
Posted: at 9:51 am
A kettlebell is a cast-iron weight that resembles a cannonball with a handle. The unique way the weight is distributed allows for momentum and many total-body dynamic exercises. Total-body dynamic exercises have been shown to burn the most calories during and after a workout session.
Kettlebells are nothing new. In the 1700s, kettlebells were used as counterweights for Russian farm equipment. As Russian farmworkers began working with them, they realized the possible as a fitness tool. The kettlebells popularity spread throughout Russia and, by the 1940s, lifting them would become the country's national sport. Russian power lifters were not the only ones using them. It wasn't long before the Olympic team, military and Special Forces began training with kettlebells. In recent years, various athletes and public personalities have helped spread their popularity along with several different certification bodies including the Russian Kettlebell Challenge and the International Kettlebell and Fitness Federation. Although Kettlebell training has stood the test of time, there is limited research to back up the claims of increases in strength, flexibility, cardiorespiratory endurance and decreasing body fat.
In order to better understand the metabolic demand of kettlebell training, researchers at the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse Health and Exercise Department, tested the kettlebell snatch. The Kettlebell snatch is a total body move that swings the kettlebell overhead. The subjects, men and women between the ages of 29 and 46 years old, continuously performed kettlebell snatches during a 20-minute period. The study funded by the American Council on Exercise found that, In terms of calorie burning, these results are equivalent to running a six-minute mile pace, or cross-country skiing uphill at a fast pace. The authors went on to state that, Overall, kettlebells use can produce remarkable results, which is what virtually all fitness enthusiasts look to get from their workouts. Kettlebells not only offer resistance-training benefits, they also will ultimately help people burn calories, lose weight, and enhance their functional performance capabilities.
The reason I like to use kettlebells isn't so much as to the supposed effectiveness, but more for the ease of use. Because of the handle, the weight is much easier for most of my clients to hold. Also, for trainees not accustom to lifting weights, kettlebells can be less intimidating and allow people to work harder than they might otherwise. Recommended starting weights for recreational weight lifters beginning kettlebell training are 18 pounds for women and 35 pounds for men.
If you are not familiar with the kettlebell exercises, seek someone who is and learn the proper form to avoid injury. The kettlebell has made a resurgence in recent years and for good reason, it works. If you want to mix things up, or have never exercised before, kettlebell training may be a viable training option.

Come Home. Sarah Finnegan, Sabrina Vega, Rebecca Bross, Elizabeth Price
This is a montage of three very talented gymnasts who did not make the Olympic team but have not announced their retirement. I #39;m pretty sure they are all still training (I #39;m not sure about Becca). Any one of these girls could have been on that Olympic team. They are all so beautiful and talented. I wish them the best of luck this upcoming season and I really hope they come home and keep competing for Team USA. I also tried to focus on the relationship they have with their coaches because I #39;m sure their coaches do not want to lose them. I know I have a lot of Elizabeth Price at the end but her coaches have the best reactions. I used only trials footage which was hard because a lot of the routines were not shown so I did the best I could 🙂 I tried to keep it simple to really showcase the gymnastics. Thanks for watching! @Ashley_Flipper **A HUGE thanks to TayTayandZoee (@EquestrianKim) for the song idea!! for all the love and support I DO NOT OWN OR CLAIM TO OWN ANYTHING IN THIS VIDEOFrom:AshleyakaFlipper2Views:106 8ratingsTime:04:05More inSports
