Becoming A Small Giant- McCloy Addresses National Summit – The Madison Record – themadisonrecord.com
Posted: at 4:53 pm
SEATTLE, Wash.- For one hour Madisons Andy McCloy set the record straight on how small gyms can make a big impact on the local community, no matter where that community resides. The owner/operator of Body Creations Sports Performance and Fitness (BCI) in Madison was one of three special guest speakers on Oct. third who spoke at length on different subjects at the 2020 Vigor Ground Fitness and Business Summit held at the companys building in Seattle, Wash.
McCloys one hour presentation was held virtually and was titled Small Gyms Make Big Impact on Community- Becoming A Small Giant. He should know that subject as well as anyone as he opened his original business in Huntsville in 2001, moved to Madison in 2005 and has been at his current location at 9582 Madison Blvd. for eight years. With over 200 clients on his current workout agenda, the 41-year old McCloy knows how to professionally train any elite athlete or anyone who wants to be in better health.
My presentation hit on different subjects about operating a gym, but mostly covered this idea proposed on a model that gyms not need to be big, but good at what you do, said McCloy, who has been a highly petitioned guest speaker and seminar host at numerous health and fitness symposiums around the world.
McCloy led off his presentation to those joining in virtually from all over the world with his seven key reasons on how gyms can survive the COVID-19 pandemic. He said all will lead to success during such difficult times across the globe.
The listed seven headlines included:
As for the clean portion of my presentation, the COVID-19 situation has made people take note of your locale as clean is the future of the business and focus on the members of your gym, said McCloy. In whats going on now we must adapt and utilize those implements for the necessary steps to make valuable business practices, especially with off-site situations with virtual items.
We have benefited from our location; we have a highly trained team; know your business data and run a lean machine; best to have little or no debt; have small group workouts 12 or smaller; find a business partner(s) that makes sense and have a complimentary skill set; be clean and without clutter, added McCloy on his seven key notations.
The Summit was scheduled to be a powerful three-day event for coaches and fitness professionals who want to achieve financial freedom through fitness. Speakers tackled an array of subjects within the scope of the Summit that allowed those tuning in to get the knowledge, insights and crystal-clear action steps needed to have a fitness business be successful. For McCloy, he made the trip to Seattle to accommodate the Summits request and stayed at the Hyatt Regency located on Lake Washington. While there he spent time with other industry friends and besides sharing fellowship, also shared their expertise in the world of health and fitness.

We Are Going to Stay Open, We Are Not the Problem, Says Gym Owner Refusing to Close His Doors – Men’s health UK
Posted: at 4:53 pm
From Thursday evening England will be thrown into another national lockdown, with non-essential shops, hospitality venues and gyms closing their doors to the public once more to help fight the spread of the coronavirus.
Study Shows risk of Catching Covid-19 at the gym
However, many commentators have argued the move could cripple the economy, put businesses out of action permanently and harm the health of a nation. These arguments will, undoubtedly, fall on deaf ears, but one gym owner is taking a stand and making sure his voice is heard.
This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.
Alex Lowndes, who runs independent gym Gainz Bedford, posted a video on his Instagram page explaining why his doors will remain open from Thursday evening, pointing out how health and fitness, and encouraging people to work out, is part of the solution and not the problem when it comes to the pandemic.
We have done a lot of thinking and we have decided that we are actually going to stay open, he said in the video.
The reasons for that are laid out in a document that we have prepared, which is two full pages, contains a lot of facts, a lot of relevant information.
No this isnt Liverpool, this isnt Tier 3, this is national lockdown.
The same arguments apply, the same logic, the same facts. Gyms are part of the solution here, not part of the problem. We need to be allowed to stay open. We are going to stay open. We hope that becomes legal in time.
The document released by Gainz Bedford argues that boosting the immune system through exercises is of paramount importance during the pandemic. With numerous studies highlighting how obesity heightens the risk of covid-19 and potentially worsening the effects of the virus, the gym owner's argument isn't without merit.
We all know that obesity is the biggest co-morbidity when it comes to Covid, and what has the government done about this? Absolutely NOTHING. In fact, they subsided fast food, so that people could buy cheeseburgers for 45p.

Why not invest in educating people on nutrition, encouraging physical exercise? Perhaps a VAT cut on running shoes, bicycles, gym memberships. Closing gyms goes against the science in every way possible.
From Thursday evening, it will be illegal for gyms to remain open, and anyone caught breaching the rules could face a hefty fine.
According to Test and Trace data however, gyms were responsible for just 3% of coronavirus infections in October. From 20,766 public infections, gyms accounted for just 620.

For the health of the nation, shouldn’t Johnson’s medical fitness for office be scrutinised? – The Guardian
Posted: at 4:53 pm
Boris Johnson has dismissed claims that he is feeling the pace after his illness with Covid as drivel. Photograph: Leon Neal/AP
Just six words, Doctor Who said, would be enough to bring down the unprincipled prime minister Harriet Jones. Dont you think she looks tired?
Would it work on a man? Time to find out. I have read a lot of nonsense recently, about how my own bout of Covid has somehow robbed me of my mojo, Boris Johnson said in his party conference speech. Was he thinking of the Daily Telegraph, where he appearedstrangely out of sorts, or of the protracted lament by a former fan, the Spectators Toby Young: What on earth happened to the freedom-loving, twinkly-eyed, Rabelaisian character I voted for? Young cited one theory, that the disease actually damaged his brain in some way.
Covid-19 damage featured again in a Times report detailing the exhaustion of a miserable and forgetful prime minister, who was also struggling with his latest infant, whose exact age recently escaped him. Physically, I think Covid has had huge impact, definitely, a source said.
Of course, Johnson told conference, this is self-evident drivel, the kind of seditious propaganda that you would expect from people who dont want this government to succeed. This seems unnecessarily harsh on some recently prized supporters, yet more unkind to the elderly huntsman Sir Humphry Wakefield, father-in-law of Dominic Cummings, who reportedly said that Johnson is so unwell he will step down in months and should not have gone back to work early because youd never do that with a horse.
Johnson added, presumably for the benefit of the imaginary seditious propagandists to whom, in dreams, he shows scant mercy: I could refute these critics of my athletic abilities in any way they want: arm-wrestle, leg-wrestle, Cumberland wrestle, sprint-off, you name it. And if protecting the population in a pandemic ultimately came down to the prime ministers victory in next summers Lakeland Games, while a non-catastrophic Brexit depended upon the physical humbling of Michel Barnier in a series of tap-room challenges, hopefully excluding the more cerebral skittles or darts, that might indeed have been one of Johnsons more impressive performances since, well, maybe that time he identified as the Incredible Hulk?
Alas, the most convincing rebuttal of unkind post-Covid-19 Dont you think Johnson looks tired/sick/thick/dishevelled/shifty/dandruffy/unRabelaisian commentary is the one line Johnson cant deploy: what the hell did you think he was like before?
As it is, Johnsons affirmation of undiminished mojo seems to have been roughly as effective as reports of Donald Trumps alleged plan to prove his potency by ripping off his shirt to reveal a Superman T-shirt. Like Trumps accompanying protestations of perfect health and eternal youth, the (unrealised) stunt only added to his critics case for invoking the 25th amendment, which allows Congress to rule a president unfit for office. Regular medicals, even if these duly descended into farce under Trump, also mean that, at least in theory, US politics legitimises public interest in a leaders physical and intellectual fitness for the job.
However idiotic, Johnsons boasting about Hulk-level athleticism suggests a measure of respect for the above principle and, perhaps, it follows, for the former MP Lord Owens proposal, that prospective leaders provide medical reports just as many CEOs are required to do. I see every case for those who seek the highest political office at least subjecting themselves to a medical prior to nomination, Owen wrote, years before Johnsons serious illness indicated need for regular check-ups in order to address the obviously minute risk that an ailing leader could put personal ambition before the needs of the country.
Maybe it's unwise, in the long run, repeatedly to compare yourself to a 'greased panther'
Having continually advertised his prowess in everything from tennis to barging child sports opponents to the ground, while denigrating wetness, malingering, languishing, girly swots and, indeed, swotty girls, Johnson is now dismissing as nonsense public interest in his stamina. Maybe its unwise, in the long run, repeatedly to compare yourself to a greased panther? Since the suggestion that competitive virility denotes political prowess possibly the result of some twisted public school codes intensification within the legendary rough and tumble of the Johnson household? must amount to a parallel concession that deficient greasiness will inevitably undermine a panthers claim to authority. Actually, its tantamount to an admission, if it wasnt obvious, that the peerless humanitarian Marcus Rashford, being also good at football and probably at leg-wrestling, would be a better leader than Johnson.
If unsuspecting US citizens have the right to know if their president becomes unfit, those of us currently at the mercy of Boris Johnsons shambolic and recently Covid-19-infested cabal can surely be excused for wanting medical confirmation that his faculties are adequate to handle even a few more days of ignoring life-saving scientific advice.
You hardly need a doctor, its true, to see that as well as performing serial U-turns, appearing defeated, indecisive, irritable, incoherent and inept to the point of being owned by mayors, footballers and, worse, lefty lawyers, and too weak to dispense with an adviser who has single-handedly destroyed public compliance, Johnson does not even know his own Covid-19 regulations (Apologies, I misspoke today). Anyone, even anyone without a classics degree, must also have spotted his rhetoric declining from the showily ornate to a stitch in time saves nine, from the faux Churchillian to the full Gavin Williamson I have had more than enough of this disease.
But new findings, indicating significant cognitive deficits in coronavirus survivors, raise the possibility that the prime minister may more than tired. Researchers identified pronounced problems, with patients who had been hospitalised experiencing as much as an 8.5 point drop in IQ.
If only to signal the risks of pointless presenteeism Johnson would surely welcome the chance to confirm, via a thorough medical, that he is not in his current state a national liability; that is, no more so than usual.
