Charles J. Mangarella, 89, of Avon, loving husband of the late Concetta C. Mangarella, passed away on Monday (December 17, 2012). Born in Hartford on December 18, 1922, he was the son of the late Carmelo and Vincenza (Zappulla) Mangarella. Charles lived in West Hartford and Wethersfield before moving to Avon. During World War II, he served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS Midway and the USS Birmingham. As a tool die maker, he was employed by Pratt Whitney Aircraft and was a member of UAW Union. Working for Shearson Lehman Bros. and formerly Buell Securities as a licensed stockbroker was not only a profession but also a hobby. After retirement, he and Concetta moved to Florida where he spent time by the water. He was a fan of the New York Giants, gardening, spending time at the ocean and especially his wife #39;s cooking. His family will remember him for his love of music, singing and dancing. He leaves his children, Charles J. Mangarella and his wife Mary of Sandy Hook, Susan Massirio and her husband Gene of Bloomfield and Angela Mazur and her husband David of Avon; five grandchildren he adored, Michael and Nicole Mangarella, Mark Massirio, Lindsay Donlin and Brian D #39;Agostino; three great grandchildren, Jacob, Erin and Juliana. Help Injured Veteran Father
Hello, my father is an honored retired veteran, because of service-related injuries and diseases, and has served the United States Air Force for 22 years. He is currently in the intensive care unit at a hospital and is fighting for his life. Right now he is on life support and is having trouble breathing. There is only one hospital that can take him in his condition, which is long-care facility, but Tricare does not cover the long-term care facilities. His PCM doctor said his conditions have chance of improving, if they can get him there. But we have been told by hospital, if we don #39;t have money to put him in the hospital, which Tricare doesn #39;t cover, they want to take him from life support. He is in Fairfax Hospital in Virgina and they said that they cannot keep him in there longer and that they have to send him to long-term care facility. My family lives off of his retirement pay and that is not much. We cannot afford to send him to a treatment center and if we don #39;t, the doctors will have no choice but to cut off the life support, taking his life away just because of money. My fathers life is on the line during this holy season. I hope some great people around the world can help keep my father alive, because I don #39;t have anyone else to turn to. My mother is struggling to take care of him, me, and my sister, while trying to get by through the days.
