Russell Brand
Russell Brand thinks of Tom Cruise when he does yoga.
The British funnyman is a huge fan of the ancient Indian spiritual and physical discipline and the actor - who he starred with in 'Rock of Ages' - bought him a yoga mat which means his thoughts turn to Tom as he's exercising.
During an appearance on UK TV show 'This Morning', Russell said: 'Tom Cruise bought me a yoga mat, although I don't know if it was actually from him. Certainly someone who works for Tom Cruise sent me a yoga mat and said here's a yoga mat and think of Tom Cruise when you do yoga. And I do.
'I like yoga a lot, I don't think there's a problem doing yoga and meditating every day ... there's a daily access to unseen realms of power - not just me, everyone has that within themselves! Yoga and meditation for me is a way of accessing very beautiful principles that perhaps make us happier at a time when people feel disillusioned with the economy, concerned about the ecology, worried with politicians, don't trust what they are being told on television...'
Russell - who was once married to singer Katy Perry - also revealed he is happy most of them time and feels at his most contented when he is treating other people well.
When asked if he was happy, Russell replied: 'Yes. Intermittently. Happiness cannot forever be sustained like some glistening bauble, it's a transitory thing like a butterfly ... so I'm happy mostly when I'm being nice to other people.'

Yoga assistant training to take place at Revolution Power Yoga in Eagle-Vail
Posted: at 5:46 am
On Saturday afternoons beginning this week and continuing through March 30, certified yoga teacher Rachel Nelson of Revolution Power Yoga will teach a new series on how to safely and effectively make physical pose adjustments.
Even the slightest assist during a yoga pose can be enough to bring you to that a-ha moment. This month, Revolution Power Yoga is offering a training series to help you get even more physical with your yoga.
This hands-on training will spark a true understanding of poses, said Rachel Nelson, certified yoga teacher and co-owner of Revolution Power Yoga. The classes will offer tools to help you transform your teaching, your assisting and your practice.
Nelson, who will be leading the series, said each class will offer concrete skills for safe and effective hands-on assisting. She said the classes are open to teachers and students of all levels.
As a teacher, you will gain confidence and tools in delivering assists that are direct, clear and powerful, Nelson said. If you do not teach, you will gain a new perspective of your personal practice and a deeper understanding of yoga.
Series schedule
March 9: Foundation of assisting: Attention, touch and key adjustments for every pose.
March 16: Deepen the student's experience: How to read bodies, and assists in standing poses and twists.
March 23: Empower your students: Advanced assists, arm balancing and back bends.
March 30: Put it all together: How to assist a whole class.

Yoga for the maimed and feeble
Posted: at 5:46 am
One of my first columns was about finding a yoga class for someone of my age and auto accident decrepitude. Theres practically a yoga studio on every corner in downtown La Jolla so one wouldnt think this was such a problem, especially when one factors in the large demographic of locals who are, well, old. But La Jolla is nothing if not a competitive community and I have flunked out of more yoga classes than you can count.
No one ever asks me to leave, of course, but if the teacher is having to adapt every pose for me and Im holding up the class, I start to feel the very un-yoga-ish vibes of photon missiles directed at the back of my head. I conclude its time to pack up my mat and take my chakras elsewhere.
At this point, Im pretty good at sizing up whether a yoga class is going to work for me as soon as I walk in the door. Im not fooled by the brochure description of the class being suitable for all levels. Yoga studios lie. Im sure the goddess Bhuvaneswari is not happy with them about this.
I can tell instantly if Im in the wrong place if its a room full of people half my age (and worse, weight) who are wearing Yoga Attire. Yoga Attire is characterized by suitable-for-forward-folding Nylon/Spandex tank tops over coordinated sports bras and stretchy pants, hair pulled back into a ponytail with matching scrunchie. If Im really in the wrong place, toenails match the bra. I would be arrested in this outfit, if for no other reason that it would be a crime against humanity to inflict mois chunk derrire in the downward dog pose to a room full of fellow yogis. (But it would clear out the room fairly fast.)
Younger people, inexplicably, sometimes show up at old people yoga. I think they just want to show off. They do balance poses without holding onto the wall, the tree pose with nary a wobble. It is so frickin annoying.
If your best pose isnt shavasana (the resting pose), you dont belong in a class with me. If the room has a rope wall and the teacher has any intention of involving us with it, I cant flee fast enough. If the class takes place in one of those intentionally super-heated rooms, Id have heat stroke. People my age come with their own internal combustion furnaces. In fact, in one of my classes, our sweet young genuinely adorable teacher always thinks the room is cold and wonders aloud why we dont think so, too. From the back of the room comes, Wait 20 years.
It has taken a while, but I have indeed found classes with my demographic: Asanas for the Ossified and Svaroopa for the Somewhat Sentient are right up my alley. But even these have their downside. During the final relaxation, at least half of the class is snoring. Loudly. I mean, if oldies have a single talent, its falling asleep instantaneously.
Im actually fine with snorers; its the moaners that disrupt my om-ish serenity. Its like theyve gone into pranayama overdrive. You begin to think youve been transported to the deli scene from When Sally Met Harry. Its all I can do to keep from hissing, Do you mind??? Some of us are trying to have some inner peace over here!
The other thing Ive noticed in older people yoga is that when we go to put away our props (blocks, blankets, etc.) after class, I am always in line behind the precision blanket folder who decides that all the rest of the people ahead of her did not fold their blankets correctly. You just know exactly what her linen closet looks like. But my yoga-cultivated calm starts fading fast waiting for her.
Heres one of the reasons why: Classes are an hour and 15 minutes but parking around yoga studios is generally an hour. (Note to take this up with La Jolla Town Council.) That wonderful feeling of oneness with the universe is totally shot to hell when you see your car and 10 others around it with parking tickets.

How to Coach PART EIGHT - Life Coaching, Business Coaching, Executive Coaching, Sales Coaching
http://www.knowyourmind.com - Coaching With EIQ Part Eight Hi, it #39;s Mike Lally of Know Your Mind. Welcome to Part Eight of How to Coach With EIQ. In this part, we will look at some of the key attributes that distinguishes a master coach from a capable coach. Emotional IQ has several additional competences to the ones already mentioned. A master coach has these skills. These competencies will provide you with the skill to easily motivate both yourself and others, and get the very best out of the people you coach. People sense this concern and will readily respond. If there is a trick, it is to see the world from their perspective. But beware - you want to avoid being hypnotised into their problem state, so remain a little detached, but genuinely curious. It is enormously useful to keenly develop your empathy. Reading the body language of people and using influence and persuasion to get the best out of them is key to this. The simplest approach is to put yourself in the other person #39;s shoes, being somewhat dissociated at times, and begin to see the world from their perspective. You can seek to understand the pressures, responsibilities, expectations, and demands they feel are placed upon them. Make enquires about their world before judging and jumping to conclusions. If you don #39;t understand something, go ahead and ask! Ask them to explain certain things, by saying something along the lines "I #39;d like to know more about that." Explore why they reason in the way they do. Behind every ...
