WASHINGTON, March 29, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CorePower Yoga, a yoga brand with a commitment to making yoga accessible to all, opened its first studio in Washington, D.C. on Friday, March 29th. Located in the popular Georgetown neighborhood just off M Street NW, the Georgetown yoga studio joins the recently opened Bethesda, Maryland yoga studio as the second CorePower Yoga studio on the East Coast.

The Georgetown studio will offer a variety of yoga class styles for all levels, including CorePower Yoga's dynamic heated Power Yoga in beginner to advanced formats, Yoga Sculpt, and Hot Power Fusion. In addition to classes, the Georgetown studio will offer Yoga Teacher Training Programs, as well as Lifestyle Programs, such as boot camps and wellness programs to complement yoga and provide students with cross-training opportunities.

[UPDATE] The Bikram sex scandal has now gotten the NMA treatment.

Though the sexual roots of yoga have been all but purged from the practice the spiritual attachments have remained. This means that there are still spiritual leaders of certain styles of yoga. That, along with the teacher-student power dynamics inherent in yoga classes, can create an atmosphere ripe for the exploitation of authority.

This week, the yoga world was shaken by a lawsuit that has been filed against the founder of Bikram Yoga, Choudhury Bikram. According to a Gawker report, a woman named Sarah Baughn claims that Bikram sexually harassed and assaulted her during a yoga instructor training camp in 2005.

Baughn claims that Bikram came onto her during the camp, even going so far as to tell her that he knew her from a past life, and that he had a special type of feeling for her. Baughn rejected his offers, but claims she was later assaulted by the teacher. She states that Bikram pinned her against a door and humped her leg while kissing her face, neck, and chest.

The Bikram Yoga organization has released a rebuttal to the charges laid out in the lawsuit:

Bikram Choudhury has spent over 50 years bringing the benefits of Bikram Yoga to people through his teaching and the creation of his worldwide Bikram hot yoga organization.

He is disappointed by the false charges made in this lawsuit. However, the matter is in the hands of his attorneys, and he will not comment at this time.

Bikram expresses gratitude to all who have reached out to express their love and support.

Capistrano Valley's search for a new football head coach included a number of candidates, some from out of state. But in the end, the Cougars did not have to look far to find their man.

Ernst Bucher has been coaching football for half his life; now, after 17 years as an assistant or coordinator, he will get his first chance to lead a program as the Cougars' new head coach.

Bucher's hiring was officially approved Wednesday night by the Capistrano Unified School District board.

"I already felt like I was at home at Capo," said Bucher, 34, who had been an assistant at Capistrano Valley for the last three years under Matt Poston. Poston left earlier this month to take the head coaching job at Tesoro.

"When Matt got the job at Tesoro, I was excited to jump at the opportunity to get the head coaching job and keep some continuity," Bucher said.

After graduating from St. Paul of Santa Fe Springs, Bucher began his coaching career at La Quinta (1995-98). He then did stints at Capistrano Valley (1999-2001), Estancia (2002-04) and Aliso Niguel (2005-09) before returning to Capistrano Valley in 2010.

"All the people in the community who had been around the program had nothing but positive things to say about him and his football expertise," Capistrano Valley Athletic Director Chad Addison said.

Bucher, 34, is an English teacher at Aliso Niguel, but Addison said a request has been made to transfer Bucher to Capistrano Valley as a teacher, but it has not yet been finalized.

According to those who know Bucher well, it is no surprise he is finally getting a shot as the head of a program.

"From the beginning, he's a guy that grew up as a football kid," said Jeff Veeder, who coached Bucher at St. Paul (Santa Fe Springs) and hired him twice as an assistant. "He lived and breathed football. Even as a player he was kind of a coach on the field."
