Aerobics Improves Memory: Study | TopNews United States

Brain health can be improved with aerobics. Yes, this is what a new study has revealed, suggesting certain hormones are increased during exercise that have benefits for brain health and cognition. People can seek improvement in their memory with the help of aerobics.
Hormones are known as growth factors and are linked to the relationship between exercise and brain health. These hormones have direct implications for hippocampus, which is a region in brain crucial for learning and memory.
Exercise and hippocampal functions affect the growth factors like brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1).
The study was conducted by researchers at the Boston University School of Medicine. The study saw measurement of blood hormone levels of participants along with performance on a recognition memory task and aerobic fitness.
The findings revealed that memory can be improved with aerobics as hormones are increased. This leads to better functioning of the hippocampus. The researchers found that low fitness BDNF levels had negative implications for expected memory accuracy. On the other hand, high fitness resting BDNF levels has positive prediction for recognition memory. Also, they found a strong link between IGF-1 and aerobic fitness.
