All ZenThe Secret to Achieving a Breakthrough in Your Career

By Anthony Meindl | Posted Jan. 21, 2014, 10 a.m.
Do you want to know how to have a breakthrough year? In all areas of your life?
Just stay open.
Thats hard enough to do on a daily basis, as we have lots of ways of keeping ourselves from being just that. We become cynical or jaded or glib. We get rejected so we begin to believe in limitations and start doubting. We negate. The more closed we become the more we shut out the possibility of what being open bringswhich is simply more openings. When we stay open we create openings in our life.
And openings are breakthroughs.
I think we believe that breakthroughs occur in a flashy, dynamic, sudden, Boom! kind of way, but Ive actually found that although quantum breakthroughs do occur, those are actually called miracles. Breakthroughs, however, occur on a daily basis by simply showing up. Theyre not nearly as dramatic or perhaps as exciting as what we think a huge momentous experience looks like compared to the actual day-in-and-day-out of creating, but thats the only way we can get there. I know its a lot less glamorous than just being discovered or it magically happening, but we can rely on science because the logic works.
Its laying the foundation. If the foundation isnt laid we cant climb to the next level. Its physically impossible. Breakthroughs occur at the thought level first. We have a new idea or an Ah-ha! or a paradigm shift. Thats a breakthrough.
They also occur at the planning levelwe want to take action and move forward with our idea, and this phase is the bridge we must take to get to the third level: action.
It doesnt matter if what we want shows up right away or it looks like we thought itd look. The breakthrough simply occurs in doing it. Sitting around and having thoughts about something isnt the same as actually taking that something and moving into the world with it.
So, if you want to have a breakthrough year, stay open.

Power failure disrupts UNILAG PG entrance exam
Posted: at 10:44 pm
Professor Rahamon Adisa Bello - Unilag VC
The qualifying examinations for candidates seeking admission to the University of Lagos postgraduate school have been disrupted because of power failure, the PUNCH gathered on Monday.
Some of the candidates, who particularly were to write the Computer Based Tests, had the excercise disrupted on Saturday evening following the inability of one of the schools generators to power the computers and other facilities for the examination.
The schools Deputy Registrar (Information), Mr. Oluwatoyin Adebule, who described the development as minor, however, linked the disruption of the examination to server problems.
Confirming that the challenge had not been resolved as of Monday, he promised that the university would fix another date for affected candidates.
He said, It was a fact that the generator went off and that is the generator of the centre. But the university also has a back-up from the main campus. But that (power failure) was not the issue. After they connected to the university generator, it was discovered that the server was down.
It was when they (Post-Graduate School) realised that it was becoming dark around 6pm that they asked the candidates to go home. In fact, they are still battling with the server. As soon as we are through with it, we will reschedule examination. The university will inform the students of the rescheduled date through print media.
Many of the affected candidates were seeking admission to study M.Sc. Economics and Master of Public and International Affairs.
The test, which began about 9am, was disrupted abruptly after the generator used to power the computers became faulty in the afternoon.
Our correspondent gathered that attempts to shift over to inverters as an alternative power source to ensure the continuation of the tests were futile as they also packed up after about five minutes later.

TROY - Cameron Mitchell Goins of Libby died Saturday morning after crashing his snowmobile in the Keeler Creek area southwest of Troy while on the way to a training exercise.
Lincoln County Undersheriff Brent Faulkner says that Goins, 47, passed away after he drifted off a snowmobile trail and hit a tree.
Goins, along with a group of other snowmobilers, were headed up the Keeler Creek drainage toward an avalanche training area when the crash happened. Goins was wearing a helmet.
Members of David Thompson Search and Rescue and CANAM Search and Rescue were taking part in a joint avalanche preparedness training exercise in the Bear Mountain area on Saturday.
The joint training also involved members of search and rescue teams from Sanders County, Montana, and Boundary County, Idaho, along with personnel from the U.S. Forest Service and other volunteer members of the community.
Troy dispatchers were told of the accident at 9:50 a.m., and were that told medically trained personnel already at the scene of the accident had requested an air ambulance response and began CPR on the patient.
The Alert Helicopter of Kalispell was launched to respond, while the Troy Volunteer Ambulance and Advance Life Support personnel responded to the scene from Troy.
An ALS member was transported up the drainage by snowmobile to meet the patient, but Goins was declared dead at 10:33 a.m.
Lincoln County Sheriff Roby Bowe responded to the scene with Detective Nate Scofield. U.S. Forest Service investigators also responded to the scene.

BANGKOK: Thai stocks fell for a second straight session on Monday as foreign investors shed exposure to risky assets after violence over the weekend hit sentiment, while other Southeast Asian markets closed mixed amid concerns about a slowdown in the Chinese economy.
Shares in Singapore and Malaysia closed 0.6percent and 0.3 percent lower respectively with Kuala Lumpur witnessinga foreign outflow of $88.08 million as expectation of a sluggishgrowth in China dented investor appetite for risky assets.
The Thai SET index ended 0.4 percent, led by information technology and banking shares, while the baht also slid due to political tension. Foreign investors sold a net $46.47 million worth of shares on Monday, extending the offshore outflow to $165.9 million in the last five straight sessions. Analysts expect foreign outflows to continue with Thai authorities "very seriously" considering a state of emergency after the weekend violence where protesters have been trying for more than two months to bring down the government. Shares in Singapore and Malaysia closed 0.6 percent and 0.3 percent respectively with Kuala Lumpur witnessed a foreign outflow of $88.08 million as expectation of a sluggish growth in China dented investor appetite for risky assets. China's economy grew 7.7 percent in 2013 after easing in the final three months on sagging investment growth, while analysts expect a cool-down this year as the government wrestles to implement major reforms. Bucking the trend, the Vietnam stock index, the region's best performer this year, outperformed the region with a 1.9 percent rise, while the Jakarta Composite Index and the Philippines ended 0.4 percent and 0.3 percent firmer, respectively.
