Aerobics and line dancing star at Jefferson Family YMCA senior health fair

Aerobics and line dancing will highlight the East Jefferson Family YMCA's annual senior health fair April 10.
"We held our first senior health fair in 2011, and it has become an event that seniors look forward to," said Amy Segar, associate executive director of the YMCA. "Last year, 250 seniors participated in the health fair, and we are anticipating even more this year."
The hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free, and the health fair is open to both YMCA members as well as nonmembers.
Classes will include aerobics, Zumba Gold, line dancing, Silver Sneakers and Yoga stretch. Various vendors will also be on hand to show seniors how they can develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
"We have a large senior population, and we want to help provide them with resources they can use to stay healthy," Segar said.
The East Jefferson Family YMCA is located at 6691 Riverside Drive, Metairie. For information call 504.888.9622.
Myasthenia Gravis walk
The third annual New Orleans Myasthenia Gravis walk will be held April 5 at Lafreniere Park in Metairie. Registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by the walk at 10 a.m. Walkers can choose to walk either one mile or three miles.
Myasthenia gravis is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disorder. Proceeds from the walk will go towards finding a cure for myasthenia gravis, improving treatment, research and education.
Since the walk began, it has raised $100,000. More than 350 walkers participated in last year's event.
