Media Mails Inc Announces: New initiative will lead to supply affordable organic food
Posted: at 5:50 pm
NW, Washington DC, U.S (PRWEB) December 09, 2014
American entrepreneurs, Nadia Robinson and Louis Bookoff have started a groundbreaking initiative with the distribution of healthy, organic food from their social business, Locals Aquaponics Farm.
Sustainable aquaponics growing system to supply affordable organic food.
Locals allow for everyone to be able to eat organic produce regardless or income or location, and allow for cities to grow smart. Their mission is helping local communities.
The venture combines sensors with technology in a vertical aquaponics growing system to supply a sustainable source of organic produce. The project started on a small scale after years of research and development to meet the growing demand for organic produce that is affordable for the consumer and grown in a transparent and social responsible manner.
This business grew out of a desire to preserve and protect the environment for this and future generations. Researchers and engineers who examined this project have agreed this is a groundbreaking initiative that will lead to help a large number of consumers lead healthier lives.
"Having access to organic food is the best way for them to avoid the supplements and synthetic items like food coloring, preservatives and chemical additives which damage the immune system and cause serious health problems every year, says Mrs. Robinson, CEO of Locals.
A fundraising campaign was recently launched on the crowd funding site, Indiegogo, to raise money to start development and production of organic food and take the company to the next level. The business partners have invested thousands of dollars in the last five years to set up the small scale aquaponics farm and are now ready to take the venture commercial.
With the high-quality organic food produced, the company aims to significantly reduce the cost to the consumer and provide affordable alternatives for them to live healthier lives.
About the owners Nadia Robinson has played vital roles in launching three start-ups prior to Locals. She has degrees in Biotechnology, Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises, and has multiple years of greenhouse experience as well as other growing experience. Louis Bookoff is currently majoring in Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises and Accounting at the Whitman School of Management. He has a passion for food and has led various marketing campaigns for restaurants and a startup company.

NSW ashram ‘not to blame’ for abuse
Posted: at 5:50 pm
A doctor has denied over-prescribing morphine to children at a NSW yoga ashram where he lived.
An ashram should not be held responsible for abuse inflicted on children by its former spiritual leader and his second-in-command, two yoga devotees have told a royal commission.
Muktimurti, a longtime resident of the Mangrove Yoga Ashram on the NSW Central Coast, said on Tuesday she did not know if physical and sexual abuse as alleged by former child residents had taken place.
Muktimurti said she did not really believe the allegations against ashram leader Swami Akhandananda when he was brought to trial.
She said in her statement to the commission she found it "morally questionable" for victims to now seek financial compensation.
"I don't agree with the ashram being held to ransom for something that none of us in the ashram community have anything to do with," she said.
Muktimurti said she believed compensation would imply the ashram had done something wrong.
Akhandananda, who has since died, was jailed in 1989 for abusing four girls.
The sex abuse royal commission has heard from nine witnesses who have described shocking sexual abuse by the swami and physical abuse by his second in charge, a woman known as Shishy, in the 1970s and 80s.
Muktimurti lived at the ashram from 1978 to 1996 and is back there in an administrative position.

Employee tells royal commission yoga ashram should not be ‘held to ransom’ by compensation demands
Posted: at 5:49 pm
A worker at a New South Wales yoga ashram who denies fetching teenage girls from their beds at night and taking them to their spiritual leader, who sexually abused them, says the organisation should not be 'held to ransom' by people seeking compensation.
The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse is looking at the handling of 11 complaints made against Swami Akhandananda Saraswati over the past 40 years, relating to abuse that happened in the 1970s and '80s.
Muktimurti Saraswati told the Sydney hearing that she joined the ashram at Mangrove Mountain on the New South Wales Central Coast when she was 17.
She worked as a secretary and assistant to a woman called Shishi who has already appeared before the royal commission.
Muktimurti rejected earlier evidence from a victim, Alecia Buchanan, who said Muktimurti took her to Akhandananda's room where she was repeatedly abused.
"I can recall absolutely and categorically it never happened," Muktimurti said, adding that she did not believe the allegations of abuse when they first emerged.
"After Akhandananda went to jail I have to say I think we all became disillusioned with him," she said.
"But I stayed in the ashram not because I dedicated my life to him but to the ideal that is expressed within the ashram."
Last week the lawyer representing the ashram apologised to the victims and acknowledged they might view efforts to make amends as "too little, too late".
Muktimurti said she still does not know if the abuse occurred but said: "It looks rather likely."
