Boxer David Haye has finally defeated credible opponents and convincingly won a title.

The pugilist has been awarded the prestigious Sexiest Vegan title.

Along with BAFTA Award winner Thandie Newton, the Hayemaker was ahead on points all the way in a victory that made his plodding defeat of punch-shy Audley Harison look like a Strictly audition.

The award is given annually to recognise celebrities for their efforts in promoting compassion for animals while demonstrating how healthy plant-based eating can be.

Mission: Impossible star Newton and Haye won't receive a Lonsdale Belt for the championship but do receive a framed certificate and a box of vegan chocolates.

Haye went vegan at the beginning of this year and was immediately open about his reasons for doing so.

He said: "I watched a TV documentary about how animals are farmed, killed and prepared for us to eat.

"I saw all those cows and pigs and realised I couldn't be a part of it any more. It was horrible. I did some research to make sure I could still obtain enough protein to fight and, once satisfied that I could, I stopped. I'll never go back."

Thandie said: "I don't want any kind of suffering of any living form.

"Animals are being pumped full of growth hormones which are then getting fed to our kids. And it's affecting the water, environment."

JERUSALEM The spiritual leader of the African Hebrew Israelites, a polygamous vegan group that believes some black Americans descended from a Jewish tribe, has died aged 75.

Ben Ammi Ben Israel died Saturday, the group announced on Sunday. He was born Ben Carter in Chicago in 1939.

He maintained that some black Americans descend from the tribe of Judah, who migrated to Africa after the destruction of the Second Jewish Temple in A.D. 70.

In 1966, he had a vision that the angel Gabriel told him to "return to the holy land by way in which we came," a spokeswoman for the group said. He led a few hundred followers to Liberia, the West African republic settled by freed slaves in the 19th century. In 1969 they moved to Israel.

Spiritual leader of African Hebrew Israelites dies aged 75 in southern Israel

A vegan teacher who criticised a dairy farm in a Facebook post has claimed his actions on the social networking site lost him his job.

Keith Allison posted a snap of a dairy farm which was using crates to hold baby calves in Smithville, Ohio, US.

Mr Allison branded the farm inhumane for separating calves from their "loving mothers".

He wrote: As someone who grew up feeling parental love and support, and now as a parent who gives love and support, I reject the claim that separating babies from loving mothers to raise them isolated in boxes can ever be considered humane."

After that he said the school district pulled his one-year contract when it was up for renewal.

He told Fox 8: I was informed by my superintendent that the family that owns this farm had called and complained about it and expressed that they were upset and frightened about the post.

The fact that their familys farm was in the picture, I guess, is where their complaint was coming from and from what I was told, they were fearful, afraid that someone might come and break their calf crates or free their cows and their children were not safe to be out in their yards."

Away from work, Mr Allison is animal rights advocate, who openly posts his beliefs on his personal Facebook page.

He said he was riding his bicycle by a local dairy farm in August when he took the picture.

The picture shows what he described as crates which are used to house calves who are separated from their mothers at birth.

Elen Rivas has stripped off for a new PETA campaign.

The new advert - which sees the star covered by only grapes and Spanish melons - has been released to coincide with National Vegetarian Week.

Rivas commented: "Going vegetarian was one of the best decisions my girls and I have made. It's had a positive impact on us on so many different levels.

"It's healthier, we feel much more alive and we have so much fun cooking delicious meat-free meals!"

Rivas has two daughters, Luna, 8, and Isla, 7, with former fianc Frank Lampard. She split from the Chelsea footballer back in November 2008 after seven years together.

Made in Chelsea's Lucy Watson, Penlope Cruz, Pamela Anderson and Eva Mendes are among other stars who have appeared in PETA campaigns previously.
