Luckys Market soft opening Jan. 6

Posted: January 6, 2015 at 10:50 pm

A Colorado-based organic grocery store is opening its doors in Gainesville this week.

Luckys Market, a full-line grocery store located at 1409 NW 23rd Ave., is having its soft opening today. A ceremony with live music, free giveaways and food samples from local vendors will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, said store director Garris Matthews.

This is the stores first location in Florida, although the franchise plans on expanding throughout the state, he said. The store will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.

Its a unique grocery store, offering high quality, affordable, local, natural and traditionally crafted foods, he said. Were making it a really comfortable setting.

Although the store mainly offers organic food, it also offers a variety of conventional food, too.

We dont want to confine people to that, Matthews said. Its a one-stop shop for everybody.

Matthews said UF attracted the chain to Gainesville as Luckys lends itself to consumers who are conscious of what they eat and how food affects the body.

The company is passionate about giving back to the community and has donated $25,000 to Bread of The Mighty Food Bank and Grace Marketplace. Matthews said there will also be a $2,000 donation to a voted-upon individual or community group each month.

Wards Supermarket, a family-owned, organic grocery store located about half a mile from Luckys, is preparing for the added competition, said owner Trish Ward.

It is certainly a concern for us any time a new store opens, especially one thats as close as this is to us, Ward said. Weve done everything we can to prepare for it.

Karnataka police to exhume womans body

Posted: at 10:49 pm

A Karnataka police team is camping here to oversee the exhumation and re-post mortem of a body of a Tiruchi woman who died reportedly under mysterious circumstances at the Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam near Bidadi recently.

The parents of A. Sangeetha (24), who was a sanyasini at the ashram, suspected foul play in their daughters death and had petitioned the Ramanagaram Superintendent of Police recently seeking a thorough probe besides demanding exhumation of the body and a re-post mortem.

Sangeetha, who had been working in the ashram for four years, died a few days ago. While ashram authorities had claimed that Sangeetha died of cardiac arrest, her parents suspected foul play.

Upon completion of post mortem in Karnataka, the body was brought here and buried near Navalur Kuttapattu, in the citys outskirts, where Sangeethas parents reside.

Yasodhara Ahsram on Kootenay Lake planning rebuild of Temple of Light

Posted: at 10:49 pm

Creston Valley Advance

The Yasodhara Ashram is preparing for a redesign and rebuild of its cherished Temple of Light, which was destroyed by a fire in June.

The design process will be led by Patkau Architects, a Vancouver firm.

"It's so rare to have a project that is about aspiration as opposed to meeting some sort of expedient requirements," said architect John Patkau in a press release. "The opportunity to do something that speaks to all the senses and the spirit is a rare and wonderful challenge."

The original temple, completed in 1992, was a longtime vision of Swami Sivananda Radha, who founded the ashram in 1963.

"The temple represented the values and vision of the ashram that this is a place open to people from all spiritual traditions," said current president Swami Lalitananda in the press release. "The next iteration of the temple is to say, yes, we honour that vision."

The Temple of Light's white dome was a landmark on Kootenay Lake, and attracted visitors and spiritual pilgrims from around the world.

"Even though this is one little temple in the wilderness of the Kootenays, we see it as a symbol of hope in the world," said Lalitananda. "The world can feel so divided, and the temple is where we recognize unity the light in each other not division. The temple was, and will be again, a sacred space where we can come together in harmony."

The design and planning phases will run 2015, with a goal of having construction completed in 2016.

The fire broke out late in the evening of June 5, and the Riondel and Balfour-Harrop volunteer fire departments responded, working through the night and extinguishing the fire after about 12 hours.

Death at Nitya’s ashram:Second autopsy sought

Posted: at 10:49 pm

Bengaluru, Jan 07, 2015, DHNS:

The Bidadi police are awaiting orders of executive magistrate to exhu-me the body of Sangeetha, sanyasini who died at the Nityananda Dhyanapeetam, to conduct a second autopsy.

Sangeetha Arjunan (24), who hailed from Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu, died of an alleged cardiac arrest on December 28. According to the Ashram authorities, Sangeetha had collapsed in the ashram and was declared dead at a hospital in Bengaluru.

However, her father Arjunan and mother Jhansirani had filed a complaint with the Ramanagara superintendent of police Chandragupta alleging foul play. The parents said that Sangeetha had moved in with them in Tiruchirapalli some time ago, however the Ashram staff had taken her back.

The parents have moved the request for a second autopsy. We have forwarded the plea to the executive magistrate. The exhumation will be carried out if the magistrate gives a direction, Ramanagara SPChandragupta said.
