The tribal boys and girls studying in government tribal welfare school-cum-hostels, ashram schools, AP Tribal Welfare Residential schools in this remote area the mornings are no longer the same. Instead of waking up at 5.30 a.m. they are getting ready by 4.30 a.m. to attend yoga classes conducted by Patanjali Srinivas from Rajahmundry. Though it is cold these young children are ready by 4.45 a.m. to attend the classes in open grounds, said Srinivas. About 250 to 300 students from these three schools are attending the classes in both the morning and evening sessions.

In the first three days of the Yoga Camp at Addateegala, the attendance of the tribal students was less. When Mr. Srinivas had a meeting with wardens, parents and also some active students and explained the importance of yoga, the attendance started increasing.

To my surprise it is cent per cent from the fifth day of my camp and I took classes to parents also in the evenings in Vedurunagaram for which tribal people from nearby hamlets attended, said Patanjali Srinivas. Swasa, Dhyana, Kriya Yoga and Kapalabhat which cleans the lungs and increases blood circulation were taught to the students and also some of the aasanas which increase concentration and memory power were taught.

Vedurunagaram Bhadram, sarpanch, said that no yoga teacher had camped continuously for 20 days in their village except Mr. Srinivas.

Tribal students wake up with yoga

YANGON - The Myanmar owner of a Yangon bar accused of insulting Buddhism in a drinks promotion told the court Tuesday the New Zealand bar manager was responsible for the offending ad that could see them jailed for up to four years.

Philip Blackwood, a general manager of the VGastro bar in Yangon, has been held in the city's notorious Insein prison along with the bar's owner and manager, both Myanmar nationals, since posting the offending mocked-up photo of the Buddha wearing DJ headphones in December.

The poster triggered outrage in the Buddhist majority country, which is witnessing a surge in religious nationalism, and led to the arrest of the 32-year-old along with Tun Thurein, the bar's 40-year-old owner, and manager Htut Ko Ko Lwin, 26, for insulting religion.

Bar owner Tun Thurein made a personal appeal to the court Tuesday, saying Blackwood was responsible for the Facebook posting.

"It was not my instruction. I wasn't involved at all. We are not guilty," he told the court, asking for the release of himself and the manager.

The trio face up to four years in jail if found guilty of breaching the Religion Act with the contentious poster, which was quickly withdrawn from the bar's Facebook page as the furore erupted.

"The verdict will be given at 12pm (1.30pm Tues Singapore time) on Tuesday 17 March," court judge Ye Lwin said on Tuesday.

Under the act, anyone who attempts to insult, destroy or damage any religion can be punished by a maximum of two years in jail, with another two-year penalty for those who insult religion through the written word.

Delivering his final arguments, Blackwood's lawyer Mya Thway said his client had "no intention" of insulting religion and was simply promoting a cheap drinks night, reiterating a statement made by the New Zealander at an earlier hearing.

"I ask for the acquittal and release of Mr Philip," the lawyer told the court.

Myanmar bar owner says New Zealander responsible for Buddha ad

The Edinburgh-based energy consultancy is reported to have appointed bankers to advise on an excercise that could result in a dramatic increase in the paper worth of the holdings of shareholders.

The company is said to be targeting a valuation of up to 2bn.

Companies House records show Wood Mackenzie's chief executive Stephen Halliday and fellow board members Paul Gregory and Brain Aird have significant holdings, which would be worth millions of pounds if the plans go ahead.

Directors and staff ranging from office workers to analysts are thought to own around 24 per cent of the shares in Wood Mackenzie, putting them in line to share handsomely again in its success.

Wood Mackenzie was bought by an American private equity firm, Hellman & Friedman in 2012. The deal valued Wood Mackenzie at 1.1bn and paved the way for payouts to employee shareholders averaging 250,000.

Around 340 employee shareholders shared in a 90m dividend Wood Mack paid out after Hellman & Friedman took control. They kept half their existing holdings in the company.

The company had 270 employees in Scotland and 800 in total at the time.

The flotation plans are reportedly being developed after Wood Mackenzie received takeover bids from big US corporations valuing the company at around 1.5bn.

Information specialists McGraw Hill and Verisk Analytics are said to have made bids for the firm recently.

Bid interest in Wood Mackenzie would reflect the value of the massive knowledge banks that Wood Mackenzie has developed and the company's prestige client lists.
