So here you are, a restless soul, still searching for the meaning of life, still searching for Loves fulfilment, still feeling alone, still hiding behind a mask, but I see you and what I see is more precious than you have dared to consider.

So here we are, brought together by Love and Truth, so that we may share in their gifts.

I will share freely the things that were given to me, and together we will fill that empty space within you.

I will tell you of things that no-one else in this world canor dare tell you, and you will know that I am a true teacher and healer of souls. I will give you back what was taken from you and make you your own master, for a loving soul seeks no power over others.

We all have only one judge and that is Love, from which all Truth comes.

It is not who you were or what you have done in the past that matters, rather it is who you are now and what you will become that is important.

You will never cease to exist, may your future be lived in peace and harmony, and with Love and Truth.

I will make all things new, and you will know that you are loved and on the true path to your Spiritual Evolution.

Buddhism began in India 2,500 years ago and, although virtually extinct in India, it remains the dominant world religion in the East. There are over 360 million followers of Buddhism worldwide and over one million American Buddhists. There even a significant number of "Jewish Buddhists." Buddhist concepts have also been influential on western society in general, primarily in the areas of meditation and nonviolence.

Buddhist beliefs and practices are based on the teachings of the Buddha ("Enlightened One"), an Indian prince named Siddharta Gautama who lived around 500 BCE. According to Buddhist tradition, the young prince lived an affluent and sheltered life until a journey during which he saw an old man, a sick man, a poor man, and a corpse. Shocked and distressed at the suffering in the world, Gautama left his family to seek enlightenment through asceticism. But even the most extreme asceticism failed to bring enlightenment. Finally, Gautama sat beneath a tree and vowed not to move until he had attained enlightenment. Days later, he arose as the Buddha - the "enlightened one." He spent the remaining 45 years of his life teaching the path to liberation from suffering (the dharma) and establishing a community of monks (the sangha).

Over its long history, Buddhism has grown into a variety of forms ranging from an emphasis on religious rituals and the worship of deities, to a complete rejection of both rituals and deities in favor of pure meditation. Yet all forms of Buddhism share respect for the teachings of the Buddha and the goal of ending suffering and the cycle of rebirth. Theravada Buddhism, prominent in Southeast Asia, is atheistic and philosophical in nature and focuses on the monastic life and meditation as means to liberation.

Mahayana Buddhism, prominent in China and Japan, incorporates several deities, celestial beings, and other traditional religious elements. In Mahayana, the path to liberation may include religious ritual, devotion, meditation, or a combination of these elements. Zen, Nichiren, Tendai, and Pure Land are the major forms of Mahayana Buddhism.

Seligman, a self-confessed pessimist by nature, spent his early career studying learned hopelessness, until an encounter with his five-year old daughter led him to shift his personal and professional endeavors.

While weeding in the garden one day, Seligmans daughter Nikki was throwing weeds into the air, singing, and dancing. Seligman reacted by yelling at her, to which Nikki responded, Daddy, I want to talk to you. Daddy, do you remember my before my fifth birthday? From when I was three until when I was five, I was a whiner. I whined every day.On my fifth birthday, I decided I wasnt going to whine any more.That was the hardest thing Ive ever done. And if I can stop whining, you can stop being such a grump (Seligman & Csikszentmihalyi, 2000). In this moment, Seligman recognized three critical things: (1) Parenting is not about fixing childrens weaknesses, but about identifying and fostering their strengths, (2) He could do more than simply endure life as a pessimist, he could immerse himself in the beauty of all he had, learn to be optimistic, and flourish in life, and (3) The field of psychology needed a major shift from simply diagnosing and treating what ails people, to taking the next step to uncover peoples internal and external strengths and resources, and helping them leverage these to live meaningful, satisfying lives.

It is important to note that Positive Psychology coaching is NOT about feeling happy 100% of the time, ignoring weaknesses and problems, or never experiencing negative emotions like sadness or anger. Life will always include little daily stressors, busy schedules and competing priorities, roadblocks to our plans, and traumatic experiences.To be cheery and smiling in the midst of such experiences 24/7 would be robotic, not human. Authenticity and experiencing a range of emotions is normal and healthy. Top 10 Ways To Prepare For Retirement

Financial security in retirement doesnt just happen. It takes planning and commitment and, yes, money.

Putting money away for retirement is a habit we can all live with. RememberSaving Matters!

If you are already saving, whether for retirement or another goal, keep going! You know that saving is a rewarding habit. If you're not saving, it's time to get started. Start small if you have to and try to increase the amount you save each month. The sooner you start saving, the more time your money has to grow (see the chart below). Make saving for retirement a priority. Devise a plan, stick to it, and set goals. Remember, it's never too early or too late to start saving.

Retirement is expensive. Experts estimate that you will need at least 70 percent of your preretirement income lower earners, 90 percent or more to maintain your standard of living when you stop working. Take charge of your financial future. The key to a secure retirement is to plan ahead. Start by requesting Savings Fitness: A Guide to Your Money and Your Financial Future and, for those near retirement, Taking the Mystery Out of Retirement Planning. (See below to order a copy.)

If your employer offers a retirement savings plan, such as a 401(k) plan, sign up and contribute all you can. Your taxes will be lower, your company may kick in more, and automatic deductions make it easy. Over time, compound interest and tax deferrals make a big difference in the amount you will accumulate. Find out about your plan. For example, how much would you need to contribute to get the full employer contribution and how long would you need to stay in the plan to get that money.

If your employer has a traditional pension plan, check to see if you are covered by the plan and understand how it works. Ask for an individual benefit statement to see what your benefit is worth. Before you change jobs, find out what will happen to your pension benefit. Learn what benefits you may have from a previous employer. How you save can be as important as how much you save. Inflation and the type of investments you make play important roles in how much you'll have saved at retirement. Know how your savings or pension plan is invested. Learn about your plan's investment options and ask questions. Put your savings in different types of investments. By diversifying this way, you are more likely to reduce risk and improve return. Your investment mix may change over time depending on a number of factors such as your age, goals, and financial circumstances. Financial security and knowledge go hand in hand.

If you withdraw your retirement savings now, you'll lose principal and interest and you may lose tax benefits or have to pay withdrawal penalties. If you change jobs, leave your savings invested in your current retirement plan, or roll them over to an IRA or your new employer's plan.

If your employer doesn't offer a retirement plan, suggest that it start one. There are a number of retirement saving plan options available. Your employer may be able to set up a simplified plan that can help both you and your employer. For more information, request a copy of Choosing a Retirement Solution for Your Small Business. You can put up to $5,500 a year into an Individual Retirement Account (IRA); you can contribute even more if you are 50 or older. You can also start with much less. IRAs also provide tax advantages.

When you open an IRA, you have two options a traditional IRA or a Roth IRA. The tax treatment of your contributions and withdrawals will depend on which option you select. Also, the after-tax value of your withdrawal will depend on inflation and the type of IRA you choose. IRAs can provide an easy way to save. You can set it up so that an amount is automatically deducted from your checking or savings account and deposited in the IRA.

Social Security pays benefits that are on average equal to about 40 percent of what you earned before retirement. You may be able to estimate your benefit by using the retirement estimator on the Social Security Administration's Website. For more information, visit their Website or call 1-800-772-1213.

Meditation What is meditation?

Meditation is the practice of focusing your attention to help you feel calm and give you a clear awareness about your life. Eastern philosophies have recognized the health benefits of meditation for thousands of years. Meditation is now widely practiced in the West, with the belief that it has positive effects on health.

Two meditation techniques are most commonly used: concentrative and mindful.

Meditation usually involves slow, regular breathing and sitting quietly for at least 15 to 20 minutes.

People use meditation to help treat a wide range of physical and mental problems, including:

Most of these conditions may also require conventional treatment for best results.

People also use meditation to relieve anxieties from long-term (chronic) conditions such as HIV and cancer.

Since meditation usually involves sitting quietly for a period of time and breathing deeply, anyone who cannot sit comfortably or who has respiratory problems may have difficulty practicing meditation. Some people with mental health problems, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or schizophrenia, may not be able to use meditation therapy effectively.

Meditation is not thought to have any negative side effects or complications alone or when combined with conventional medical treatment, but it is not considered appropriate or safe for acute, life-threatening situations.

Always tell your doctor if you are using an alternative therapy or if you are thinking about combining an alternative therapy with your conventional medical treatment. It may not be safe to forgo your conventional medical treatment and rely only on an alternative therapy.

Howdy and welcome to Vegan Chicago!

We are the oldest and one of the largest vegan-focused meetup group in the world! Founded in 2002 and run by long-time vegan and animal rights activists we have extensive experience and knowledge with a passion to share. We are Chicago's vegan support group that provides connections and resources for being vegan in Chicago.

We welcome anybody regardless of how "vegan" you are. We recognize the "practical" part of being vegan with an eye on the larger prize. No judging here so wehave aCode of Conduct policy in place to ensure everybody has a great time. We are also unique in that we have a science-positivemission motivated by an ethical point of view.
