Why Kerry Washington’s Water Aerobics Pregnancy Workouts Are So Effective – PEOPLE.com

Posted: at 11:46 pm

Kerry Washington revealed on Tuesday that her go-to pregnancy workoutwas water aerobics and she may be onto something.

When youre pregnant, you feel heavier. But in water, you get to feel lighter again, CeCe Marizu, an Equinox Sports Club instructor and group fitness ambassador for their H20 workouts, tells PEOPLE.

When you get pregnant, you also tend to swell and water takes that pregnant feeling away. A lot of pregnant women have pain in their low back, and a water aerobics class can correct your pelvic tilt. And as far as modifications, you dont have to do a million modifications.Swimming is one of the safest sports.

It also allows pregnant women to be in positions that are not safe for them on land.

When youre pregnant, you can be on your back in the water, says Marizu. You have more freedom to mix up your workouts when youre in water versus when youre on land.

Whether or not youre pregnant, water aerobics can provide an effective workout without putting impact on your joints like many traditional workout classes do.

Water gives you a natural resistance that still lets you build up your strength without causing injury to your body, says Marizu. Anything you can do on land, you can kind of do in the water. You can do squats, you can do a high-knee march, you can do a run.Well do stuff with your arms where you pull the water down, and then you might grab that buoy as a weight where youre also adding some curls or some tricep extensions.

Being in the water allows people to have a range of motion they cant have on land.

The thing that makes water so special is you can move around all planes, she says. Youre working on rotation, youre working with each sagittal plane, the frontal plane.

It also adds more natural resistance to each move to build strength: a simple kicking move when done in water can work your quads and hamstrings.

You work muscle groups that I dont think people realize that youre working in the water, adds Marizu. Your forearms are a really hard area to target, but even if youre just standing in the water, and you start to move your arms in a figure-8 motion, youre working your shoulders, your delts and your forearms at the same time.

Chloe Coscarelli may have built her reputationon cupcakes, tempeh burgers, and sweet potato fries(theres not a line out the door of By Chloethe vegan chain she co-founded, before recently exitingfor nothing),but theres another food staple shes just as obsessed with: tacos. Theyre definitely one of my go-to lunches, admits the plant-based chef.

As a vegan, Coscarelli isnt about to fill her tacowith chicken or steakshe has another go-to on hand for protein: One of her favoriteingredientsistofu, the OG vegan staple. Not only is it often her tortilla filling of choice, but she also turns to it when shes looking to punch up her dishes with something other than guac. (Because not everyone can stomach avocados all the time.)

I useitto make creamy sauces by throwing it in the blender. Some people get intimidated by making cream sauces with nuts, but tofu is really easy to work with, she says.

Here, Coscarelliputs the soy-based specialty to workas a spicycrema.Paired with mango salsa, it all adds up toa summer mealthats sweet with a kick. Chipotle, are you taking notes?

Austin Aries Talks WWE Cruiserweight Division, Being Vegan and More – Bleacher Report

Posted: at 9:51 am

Austin Aries is one of the most talented all-around performers in the wrestling industry, and since joining WWE in 2016, a whole new audience has now had the pleasure of seeing the Greatest Man That Ever Lived operating at the highest level.

At 39 years old, Aries has been wrestling for 17 years and has earned a reputation as one of the best in-ring workers in the business. Add in the fact that there are only a few wrestlers who can stand toe-to-toe with him in a promo, and Aries is one of the most gifted talents in the world.

In a recent interview promoting his new book, Food Fight: My Plant-Powered Journey from the Bingo Halls to the Big Time, Aries spoke to Ring Rust Radio about his place in WWEs cruiserweight division following another loss to Neville at Extreme Rules, his interest in becoming a commentator following his in-ring career and the challenges of living a vegan lifestyle.

At the 2017 edition of the Extreme Rules pay-per-view, Aries tried unsuccessfully for the third time to capture the Cruiserweight Championship from Neville. Following another hard-fought defeat, there are questions about whats next for Aries.

While staying in the cruiserweight division and climbing the ranks once again could be a viable option, Aries proved in Ring of Honor and Impact Wrestling that he doesnt need to be pigeonholed. He could easily make the jump to the heavyweight division and instantly be one of the top stars on the Raw brand as he chases the Universal Championship.

When asked what he has planned moving forward, Aries was uncertain about his future.

Right now, I feel like Im at a point where I am reflecting and just trying to figure out what my next move is. I have put a lot of energy and focus into capturing the Cruiserweight Championship, but obviously I didnt get the job done, Aries said. So, I am not really sure what my next move is. I think right now I am going to take a step back, see what the landscape in front of me and see where I fit in best moving forward.

Regardless of whether Aries stays in the cruiserweight division or makes the leap into the heavyweight division, his skill in the ring and on the mic will result in marquee matchups and feuds that would bolster any card.

Not only has Aries proved to be one of the best all-around talents in wrestling today, but while he was out with an eye injury, he also showed that he'll have a bright future at the commentary table when his in-ring career is over.

After working with Michael Cole and Corey Graves, Aries has a newfound respect for commentators and a new career path if he eventually wants to follow through and become the Greatest Commentator That Ever Lived.

I had a lot of fun doing that and it was a new opportunity for me. I learned a lot and I got to work with some cool people that I would never have had the chance to work with as an in-ring competitor, Aries said. A lot of respect for what those guys do. Theres a lot going on that people dont know about in those headsets while those guys are trying to manage while they are also trying to narrate a story. I think at a certain point when the time is right, if that opportunity is there for me, its something I would like to pursue.

Aries has been a staple of the wrestling industry for almost two decades, but he still has so much left in the tank. One of the reasons for his success thus far has been his commitment to a vegan lifestyle.

Finding the proper foods and meals for a vegan is difficult at times, but its even more complicated when WWE Superstars are on the road constantly traveling from city to city without ample options.

Aries spoke about the difficulties of being a vegan who travels constantly and how his commitment to the lifestyle has helped him stay true to veganism.

I think if youre trying to be mindful of eating well on the road, it can be difficult no matter what, Aries said. Your choices at midnight or one oclock in some of the smaller towns when we are getting out of shows arent going to be the best choices for eating healthy no matter what your dietary choices or restrictions are.

So, I think the important part is to always be prepared. I always try to carry some stuff with me so if cant find some food around me, Im not stuck in that position of having to make a bad choice, Aries continued. I think the hardest part is just the dedication to it. Once you decide its important to you, it becomes easier to do because you are invested in it.

While most wrestling fans look at a Superstar who is 39 years old as someone who is on the downside of a career, Aries has bucked that trend and only appears to be getting better with age.

With so much left to prove inside a WWE ring beyond being stuck in the cruiserweight division, the best is yet to come for Aries. Hopefully, WWE officials dont squander the opportunity to add a bona fide championship level heel to Raws heavyweight division.

No matter where the future takes him, Aries has demonstrated time and time again that he has the talent and the smarts to be one of the most entertaining aspects of any show he graces.

People who say vegans are wimpy and weak are really misinformed at this point in the game, lets be honest.PlantBuilt, a vegan non-profit bodybuilding organization proves that with so many plant-based protein options out there, vegans are most often well-fueled machines with plenty of strength and energy.

The country has been left feeling pretty shocked, as we head towards a hung Parliament after the snap election.

No political party has emerged with an overall majority, and all eyes are now on what Prime Minister Theresa May will do next.

Having a normal day at work may be proving pretty difficult as youve probably noticed, the results are ALL anyone is talking about. So, here are some things you can do to try and keep your concentration levels as high as possible and actually achieve some work.

Motivate yourself by making a list of what you need to get done

Lists can be a good way of keeping focused at work on a normal day, never mind a day when its probably going to be easier to lose concentration. It will help you prioritise, and you know youll get a sense of achievement when you can tick to-dos off your list.

Go and get some fresh air

It may sound pretty obvious, but many people are guilty of staying in the office all day without taking a break. With so many distractions today, its more important than ever that you take time out to just stroll around the block and have a break from everything. Of course, during this walk you may just be thinking about the election, but at least youll return to work with a clearer mind.

Do some meditation

Were not suggesting you lie down in savasana pose and freak out the office but, if you have a desk job for example, sit for a few minutes in your chair and do some deep breaths. Be mindful of how your body feels, close your eyes and do a few 10-count breaths. Hold for a second as you relax into the feeling of the in breath. Now breathe out to a count of six. Ahhhh doesnt that feel better?

Eat foods that will keep you alert

Basically, avoid sugary foods as much as possible. Go for brain foods for your lunch, to avoid a mid-afternoon slump when election thoughts may take over blueberries, salmon, bananas, spinach and eggs will fuel your concentration. If you are craving a sweet treat, dark chocolate will perk you up nicely.

Put your phone on silent for a while

On top of the distraction of your co-workers debating the election result, youve likely also got friends and family texting you their thoughts and opinions on the matter.

If youre prone to checking your phone too much at your desk, just turn it face down and avoid temptation for a while. Youll feel better for it, promise.

Listen to some music

Many people find they feel motivated with their headphones in. Obviously be selective with this go for some relaxing music with no words maybe, and see if it gets you feeling focused.

If youre honest with yourself, theres probably no way youre going to go the whole day without wanting to check whats happening. Has Theresa May resigned? Whats Jeremy Corbyn said? What funny tweets are going viral?

So, schedule distractions in tell yourself that, after a chunk of hard work, you can check Twitter and Facebook as a reward. But, control how long you spend scrolling it can be all too easy to get carried away checking out funny memes about politicians

Achilles Wheel set to play at High Sierra Music Festival – The Union of Grass Valley

Posted: at 9:50 am

Achilles Wheel, an eclectic Nevada City band that blends roots, world music and psychedelic rock, will play at the 26th annual High Sierra Music Festival this summer, which takes place from June 29 to July 2 at the Quincy Fairgrounds.

High Sierra will be one of several stops on Achilles Wheel's summer tour. The band will head north to play shows in Washington and Oregon before making its way back down the west coast, where it plans to play several shows around Lake Tahoe, in addition to making a stop at the Kate Wolf Music Festival in Laytonville.

The band will also play during a benefit at Gold Country Gymnastics in Grass Valley on June 24 for Nevada County resident Paige Lyon, who is raising money to help pay for a surgery that will help correct her severe scoliosis.

High Sierra has been on the forefront of the camping festival scene since its inception in 1991, said Rebecca Sparks, a producer who has worked with the festival since its very first year. Not only does the event bring great music to the mountains, she said, but it books artists from a wide variety of genres, appealing to different tastes.

Sparks said the founders of the festival "didn't understand why you can't book a singer-songwriter, follow it up with a rock act, and then have a funk band wrap up the night."

The seamless blending of different sounds has attracted thousands to Quincy each year. The event traditionally takes place during July 4 weekend, and might be described as a four-day party under the sun, with music, water guns and camping.

"It's a mix of people getting together with friends, relaxing, ditching their cars for four days, and really being able to enjoy great music together in an outdoor natural setting," said Sparks.

Achilles Wheel is slated to play shows on both Saturday afternoon and Sunday night at High Sierra.

"It's a huge honor and a big thrill for us to be playing up there," said Paul Kamm, an Achilles Wheel guitarist and singer.

Kamm said the band started out playing cover tunes at local bars around Nevada City. Eventually, band members began composing original music, which Kamm said was a big hit around town.

"We started playing our original stuff for bar crowds and people wouldn't leave the dance floor all night," he said.

Kamm said the band draws inspiration from the live playing style of rock and roll jam bands, but their overall sound is difficult to define.

"We tie in roots, Americana, world music and rock. What we've focused on most is writing and playing original songs," he said. "Writing music is compelling, because what you're really doing is telling a story."

The band recorded its first album, Thirteen Hours, in 2011, which featured 13 original songs.

Achilles Wheel's main goal, Kamm said, is to make people dance, and he looks forward to making that happen throughout the summer.

KVMR plans to broadcast live from High Sierra Music Festival throughout the weekend.
