Mike Tyson, Vegan for 10 Years, Says "I’m In the Best Shape Ever" – The Beet

Posted: at 8:45 pm

without comments

Boxinglegend Mike Tyson says hes in the best shape ever and credits hisvegan diet and rigorous exercise routine for making it happen. Over the last decade, Tyson has been plant-based andexplains how his vegan diet has completely changed his life for the better.

UPDATE: The New York Post just reported that Tyson might have a new chance to fight again. The former Champ is expected to be offered $20 million to spar in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. So that would certainly make staying in shape worth it.

After retiring in 2005, Tyson was eating meat and drinking alcohol on a regular basis, he tells an interviewer. He was diagnosedas clinically obese in 2009 and toldTotally Vegan Buzz, I was so congested from all the drugs and bad cocaine, I could hardly breathe."Tyson also revealed in the interview, I had high blood pressure, was almost dying, and had arthritis."

In 2010, Tysontransformed his diet and ditched the meat in favor of a plant-based lifestyle, which he has continued ever since. Her also is completely clean and sober now, something he is proud to tell fans. The former heavyweight champ says everything he is doing to change his life and turn his health around is for his kids and his wife.

The 53-year old warrior explains,"Turning vegan helped me eliminate all those problems in my life, and adds, "I'm in the best shape ever." This kind of statement from such an iconic sports figurethat he is in better shape now than when he was competing and fighting and collecting belts and endorsementsissure to get attention the world over andspur more plant-curious athletes to try it out.

Last week, Tysonposted an Instagram videoboxing with hisnew coach,MMA trainer Rafael Cordeiro, and showed off hismuscular bodywith fast-speedform that is helping him stay in shape during the lockdown.

Corderio also agrees that Tyson is in his best shape and complimentshis punches: "He has the same power as a guy who is 21, 22-years old."

The trainer said he wasn'tsure what to "expect from a guy who hasnt hit mitts for I think almost ten years," Corderio told TalkSport. During the boxing session, Tyson clips together powerful punches so we can see his greatest moments. His trainer notes, "I held his right hook and thought he is going to kill somebody. Watch the video to see for yourself, we wouldn't want to get behind any of those, even in full body armor gear.

During an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2013, Tysoncredits his plant-based diet for saving his life. He shared, "Well, my life is different today because I have stability in my life. Im not on drugs. Im not out on the streets or in clubs and everything in my life that I do now is structured around the development of my life and my family. I lost weight. I dropped over 100lbs and I just felt like changing my life, doing something different and I became a vegan."

Becoming a vegan gave me another opportunity to live a healthy life. High blood pressure, almost dying, arthritis, and once I became a vegan all that stuff diminished.

Before getting too ahead of ourselves and predicting Tyson'sreturn to thering, hehopped on T.I's Instagramlive and hinted the idea.Ive been working out, Ive been trying to get in the ring, I think Im going to box some exhibitions and get in shape.

Tyson also said, I want to go to the gym and get in shape to be able to box three or four-round exhibitions for some charities and stuff." It's clear that othersshould be nervous about the idea of Tyson's return, like professional boxer Ryan Garciawho commented on one of Tyson's posts, saying, "I got scared when you said Im back ."

HomeFood & BeverageNew Chef-Led Startup Launches to Bring Frozen Vegan Dishes Around the UK with Free Delivery DTC Pep Kitchen

Plant-based, frozen, and shelf-stable are leading the way through the troubles caused to the foodservice sector during this global pandemic. Riding on this wave, vegan ready meal brand Pep Kitchen in the UK is set to launch with a range of seven frozen meals with free delivery DTC.

Pep Kitchen is a startup founded by chefs Joe Coulter and Ben MacAndrews. The duo met whilst working together in a French Restaurant in Covent Garden and also worked together running busy food trucks in Londons street food scene. Their menu is heavily influenced by their experiences.

The menu comprises Jerk Sweet Potato Curry, Mexican Chipotle Bean Stew, Spicy Szechuan Mapo Tofu, North African Harissa Hotpot, Gunpowder Roots & Dhal, Mung Bean Moussaka and Jackfruit Massaman. Meals need to be ordered in batches of six, cost 5.75 each, are one serving each and can be heated up in under ten minutes.

In keeping with the company ethos on sustainability, the deliveries are carbon neutral and all of the packaging is either compostable, recyclable or returnable for reuse.

The website for Pep Kitchen states that the company is pro freezing as this allows them to cook food and maintain its goodness without the use of artificial additives for preservation.

It goes on to say: We love our food and we werent satisfied with what was on offer in the market, especially for people who arent strictly vegan but want to cut down on their meat intake. So, we said; lets give this a go ourselves and make plant-based food people will genuinely enjoy!

Study Shows Meat Consumption in Germany is Declining – vegconomist – the vegan business magazine

Posted: at 8:45 pm

HomeMarket & TrendsStudy Shows Meat Consumption in Germany is Declining Tobias Arhelger-adobe.stock.com

A recent representative study by Forsa on the eating habits of Germans, commissioned by Federal Minister of Food Julia Klckner, shows that meat consumption in the country continues to decline and this decline is increasingly taking place amongst males. Only 26% of those surveyed eat meat every day, whereas this was the case for 34% surveyed in 2015.

One reason for this decline is that more and more men in particular are forgoing their daily portion of meat. Just under half of those surveyed (49%) have already bought vegetarian or vegan alternatives to animal products at least once.

Predictably, young people are more open-minded: 61% of 14 to 29-year-olds and 64% of 30 to 44-year-olds have already opted for these products once or more often when shopping. The reasons given were:

Julia Klckner commented: Consumers in Germany are eating an increasingly varied diet. They like to try out new things, and according to our survey, there is a colourful variety on their plates. What consumers do not need are government regulations for private shopping lists. A balanced diet does not include meat and sausage every day. The number of those who deliberately avoid them has increased. People used to talk about Sunday roasts and not without reason! A clear result of the eating habits in Germany is that more than half of them are flexitarians, not completely without and not only with meat, but both.

Vegan fave Wild Chive to open brick-and-mortar in Bluff Park the Hi-lo – Long Beach Post

Posted: at 8:45 pm

without comments

Wild Chive, the brainchild of Brooklyn-based vegan chef Soozee Nguyen that has been a vagabond staple across the city, has finally found its forever-home: Nguyen signed a lease for the building at 2650 E. Broadway. Wild Chive will open June 5.

Nguyen, who had been doing brunch pop-ups at Portfolio Coffeehouse and MADE by Millworks, has been saving up since landing in Long Beach and takes over what was an antique renovation space.

Its crazy to think that its been four years since I had moved back from working my way through the kitchens of New York City, she said. The popups and residencies have been nice but the big dream and goal has always been to lay down some roots with our very own brick and mortar.

Four years running but 10 years in the making, Nguyen can finally offer her famed Vegan Brunch on a regular basis within her own space and join the growing vegan scene that has taken hold throughout the city.

When I became vegetarian at 19, I still yearned for the good stuff, Nguyen said. Not so much the actual food, but more what that food meanta certain flavor, a texture and that kick Id grown accustomed to after growing up in Texas eating meals prepared by my mother, a traditional Vietnamese cook, and my father, an experimental kind of guy with a taste for fusions.

Nguyens keen sensibility for high-quality vegan food kept vegans and non-vegans alike returning for signature dishes such as stuffed french toast filled with house-made chocolate-hazelnut spread, fresh strawberries, bananas, coconut whip and topped with maple and almonds. Or a breakfast bnh m filled with tofu, tempeh bacon and ham, pickled veggies, cucumber, cilantro, chile, fried shallots, and a chive-cilantro aioli.

Highlights for this space? Vegan Vietnamese Coffee with housemade condensed milk, French Quarter beignets, a vegan Monte Cristo sandwich and vegan macncheeseand it will be available for takeout and delivery come June 5. Thats going to be followed by an expansion into their candle-lit dinner service, open-air dining with their outdoor patio, and a craft beer and wine bar that is currently in the works.

Wild Chive is located at 2650 E. Broadway.

Posted: at 8:45 pm

Applewood, a cheese company that has been producing traditional dairy cheese for more than 56-years, launched its first-ever vegan cheese last year which proved so popular that it sold out in just one day.

Now the company has secured listings at Sainsburys supermarket to stock its new vegan cheese slices that are perfect for burgers and sandwiches.

Applewood Vegan Slices will be stocked in 304 Sainsburys stores across the UK and will RRP at 2.50 for ten slices.

The cheese is also available in 200g blocks in 470 Asda stores, 250 Waitrose and Partner stores as well as online via TheVeganKind and VBites.

Lisa Harrison, Senior Brand Manager for Applewood, said:The success of Applewood Vegan has been phenomenal. The excitement around the launch back in October was amazing with 40% of the Asda stores stocking it sold out, which started us thinking about how we could innovate with the cheese, which has led to the creation of the new slices product.

We are over the moon that Sainsburys is on board and has agreed to stock it in 304 stores from 14 June; they will be a great partner for the cheese slices. It shows that there is an increasing demand for vegan cheese, not just among the vegan community, but also with flexitarians.
