Permian Football Coach Gary Gaines Announces His Retirement
A Texas legend is hanging up his whistle. Coach Gary Gaines was the head football coach for Permian High for a total of eight years. It may not seem like a very long time but it #39;s what he did in those eight years that counts. In two separate four year stints at Permian High School, Gary Gaines made a name for himself by coaching up some of Permian #39;s greatest teams including the 1988 team profiled in the infamous book, Friday Night Lights, and his 1989 Class 5A State Championship team. On Tuesday after his second four year stint with the program, Gaines retired from his head coaching position. His second go around at Permian was not nearly as successful as the first. After winning 46 games in his first four seasons, the Panthers only went 23-21 over the past four years with only one playoff victory. Gaines cites these struggles as one of the reasons he #39;s hanging it up. "It #39;s been a special school to me and my family. The reason I #39;m retiring is that we haven #39;t done what I expected us to be able to do in terms of wins and losses. When you #39;re a .500 football team, I think Permian deserves better than that and we need a new face for the program," Gaines said.From:AdamJacobson08Views:0 0ratingsTime:01:54More inEntertainment

*NEW* RIP ROBERT H. BORK (DETAILS)
Robert H. Bork, whose failed Supreme Court nomination in 1987 infuriated conservatives and politicized the confirmation process for the ensuing decades, died Wednesday at the age of 85. The former Yale law professor and judge on the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit had a history of heart problems and had been in poor health for some time. But Bork was a towering figure for an early generation of conservatives. In the 1960s and #39;70s, he argued that a liberal-dominated Supreme Court was abusing its power and remaking American life by ending prayers in public schools, by extending new rights to criminals, by ordering cross-town busing and by voiding the laws against abortion. He was an influential legal advisor in the Nixon administration and served as a footnote to history in the Watergate scandal. When the embattled president ordered the firing of special counsel Archibald Cox, the attorney general and his deputy resigned in protest. Bork, who was in the No. 3 post as US solicitor general, then carried out Nixon #39;s order. But Bork #39;s biggest moment came during the Reagan administration in the 1980s. He left Yale and came to Washington when Reagan appointed him to the US court of appeals in the District of Columbia. The job was seen as a steppingstone to the high court. In 1986, Bork was passed over for a younger colleague when Reagan named Judge Antonin Scalia to the Supreme Court. Long Term Care Plans
http://www.infolongtermcare.org - long term care plans are a neglected part of retirement planning. For many reasons, we avoid the subject. We deny a fact of aging at some point, about 60% of us will require long term care. Others mistakenly believe that Medicare or Medicaid will help them. Medicare coverage is limited and Medicaid is for those with great financial need. What about those of us who, though not rich, have assets and who would like to make sure they don #39;t spend all of those assets paying for expensive long term care costs? Many Americans fall into this category, yet have no plan. Long term care planning is essential. It provides an opportunity to educate yourself to find out if you need the protection long term care insurance offers. Most of us can #39;t go it alone. Planning and education will inform you, then you can decide whether or not you are a good candidate for long term care insurance plans. Knowing is better than ignoring. Garbage Man Blues – Roy Newman And His Boys – Video

Garbage Man Blues - Roy Newman And His Boys
Recorded in 1934. By his mid-twenties, he played piano, piano accordion and guitar and worked as a staff musician at WRR Dallas. In 1926, apart from his studio duties, he began to play piano as one half of the Mystery Duo, with John Thorvald (guitar). In 1931, he played guitar as part of a quartet known as the Wanderers, where he became associated with guitarist Jim Boyd. The group moved to WFAA in 1932, but Newman and Boyd with different musicians returned to WRR, as Roy Newman And His Boys, the following year. Also at WRR at that time was Bill Boyd, who played and recorded with musicians known as the Cowboy Ramblers. In reality, some of the musicians who played and recorded with Newman also played on Boyd #39;s recordings, but each band managed an individual sound and both played on WRR #39;s popularNoon Hour Varieties. Newman And His Boys (who sometimes numbered 10 musicians) recorded 72 sides between 1934 and 1939, and established a considerable reputation through their broadcasts and appearances in the Dallas and Fort Worth areas. Although never afforded the publicity gained by Bob Wills or Milton Brown, Newman, who probably played more jazz than his contemporaries, played his part in popularizing western swing music, before he disbanded in 1940. Important group members over the years were fiddlers Art Davis and Thurman Neal and Holly Horton (clarinet). Newman continued to work as a staff musician at WRR and/or WFAA until his retirement. He died at his home in 1981, the same ...From:Lloyd T.Views:1 1ratingsTime:02:57More inMusic
