24-03-2012 21:35 After a successful tour of President Buchanan's America, young Prince Bertie returns home to find that his parents do not see it as a personal success rather one that can be attributed to the monarchy in general. His father tells him he is to go to Oxford to continue his studies but will be under the care of a governor and will not be allowed to mix with other students. Bertie really wants to join the army but his father, at first, refuses, but eventually decides in his favor. He is made a Lieutenant Colonel in the Grenadier Guards and sent to Ireland to undergo his training. There he sees a few familiar faces and begins an affair with an Irish music hall performer. The situation in Italy creates a conflict for Albert with his relations in the Austrian court. Vicky's son Wilhelm is born with a damaged arm. States in the American South secede, raising the possibility of war. Victoria's mother, the Duchess of Kent, dies. First broadcast: April 15, 1975.

‘The Hunger Games’ opens with $155 million: A look at its box-office success by the numbers

As expected, The Hunger Games is a huge box-office hit. As in, really huge.

The first film in the much-anticipated Katniss Everdeen franchise brought in $155 million over the weekend, making it the No. 1 movie in America and the film with the third-biggest opening weekend of all time.

Jennifer Lawrence, hitting a box-office bulls eye. (Murray Close - Associated Press)

And thats only one of the designations that can now be assigned to The Hunger Games courtesy of its mega-revenue over the past few days.

Lets look more closely at some of its accomplishments in numerical terms, shall we?

The Hunger Games sits at No. 3 on the list of all-time biggest opening weekends.

When considered with no adjustment for inflation, The Hunger Games is in third place on this list, according to Box Office Mojo, right behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (at No. 1, with $169.1 million) and The Dark Knight (at No. 2, with $158.4 million). Its also the only movie in the top 10 releases on that list that isnt a sequel.

The Hunger Games also had the biggest midnight opening ever for a non-sequel.

Ticket sales for the Thursday night/early Friday screening brought in $19.74 million, giving it the seventh-biggest midnight debut of all time, behind various Harry Potter and Twilight sequels.

The Hunger Games is off to a much stronger start than either the Harry Potter or Twilight films.

Turning The 99% Into Ants- NWO/ILLUMINATI – Video

23-03-2012 04:23 The simple things that show we are being manipulated and controlled. But we are all waking up to the truth. VIDEO SCRIPT:y- People need to understand what's really happening. Whenever there is military the state will use the necessity for "defence" as their excuse for seizing complete and absolute power. This defence is said to be against the crimes of their own people and against attack from foreign countries, if there are no immediate threats, they will create the fear required to take control themselves, and if there are threats, they will advertise them everywhere and constantly in order to gain support to enforce harsher laws, which restrict the freedoms of their people to the highest degree. They achieve this submission by subjecting children to an education system, that employs authoritarian discipline so that they may grow up to be obedient to superiors and heartless to those they consider below them, creating a complete and utter desire for personal success. In school they are taught excessive lies, important truths being distorted or supressed. The media is controlled so that we may learn only what our controllers decide that we should learn. Intricate systems of spying are organised to investigate the lives of the people, monitoring them explicitly and secretly. Terrorism is made legal. Justice administered in secret; the trials being unfair, the penalties viciously cruel. Brutality, captivity and isolation are regularly employed in the so called fight against ...

Helping students aspire to success

Posted: at 6:21 am

without comments

More than one million students a year fail to graduate with their class. Over the past four years, AT&Ts Aspire program has worked with organizations across the country to help reverse this trend and achieve a national goal of a 90 percent graduation rate by 2020. Although the high school dropout rate has improved, it is still a critical problem, particularly in an era when competition for jobs is intense.

Continuing our efforts to address this critical issue, we are excited to launch a new phase of Aspire a $250 million investment that will build on our existing initiative to help more students graduate from high school prepared for careers and college and ensure our nation is better prepared for global competition. AT&T Aspire has already reached more than one million students with $100 million invested since 2008, and now we are doubling down on American students and Americas future

In Florida, public officials and educators have placed a premium on education, and we have had an opportunity to play a role in their success. The Florida AT&T Aspire investment of almost $5 million since 2008 has benefitted South Florida organizations including Take Stock in Children and the Miami Science Museum.

David Green is an exemplary example of the local impact of AT&T Aspire.

David began the Miami Science Museum program during the summer after eighth grade. He had moved from Jamaica to the Overtown community with his mother, and transitioning into American inner-city culture was difficult. David found himself involved with gangs and after a couple of life-threatening situations, made the decision to leave.

Through support from the Miami Science Museum program activities, David has successfully transformed himself into the valedictorian at Booker T. Washington Senior High in Miami. Hes gained admission to the University of Florida and is awaiting decisions from other top-ranked schools. David was also a Posse Finalist, a finalist for the Dell Scholars program, the Gates Millennium Scholarship, the Coca-Cola Scholarship and has already been awarded over $10,000 in additional scholarship monies. His goal is to become a neurosurgeon.

David has succeeded because of his personal dedication, and adult and peer mentors providing positive influences to guide him in the right direction.

This new phase of Aspire will take a socially innovative approach that goes beyond traditional philanthropy, engaging people and technology to create distinctive solutions to social problems.

Today, the mobile Internet is omnipresent. Students of all ages are using this powerful resource, harnessing its potent power for the cause of education. For example, AT&T Foundry innovation centers will work with educators and other companies to find atypical approaches to help improve education. You can expect to see a particular emphasis on gamification, mobile applications, video and social media the communications environments in which todays students are most comfortable to instill a new level of excitement into learning.

But it will also take people to solve this challenge.

New format proves success for Morning with Mr. Bunny event

Posted: at 6:21 am

without comments

Parents and young children poured into Heritage Place on Metcalf Street early Saturday to take part in Conroes annual Morning with Mr. Bunny event.

The free event ran from 10 a.m. to noon. Unlike previous years, where the event featured a large egg hunt, Event Coordinator Rachel Bonnette said theyre instead letting children and parents visit booths featuring local businesses to collect eggs.

The egg hunt was a bit of a mad scramble for the kids, Bonnette said. Having the children visit vendors extends the life of the event and makes sure all of the children are happy.

The free event featured about a dozen different vendors handing out eggs to children and offering information about their businesses to parents. Bonnette said they hoped to increase the number of vendors attending the event as people become more familiar with the new format.

Vendors included Infinity Auto Insurance, ATA Martial Arts of The Woodlands and Spring and Rodgers Stein Chiropractor among others.

Each vendor also donated a basket filled with candy and other goodies. They were given away as prizes to children who were lucky enough to find an egg with a winning paper slip inside of it.

The Morning with Mr. Bunny offered a variety of activities for young children, many of which have become mainstays of the event this includes face painting, bunny hop races and, of course, pictures with Mr. Bunny.

Photographers from the City of Conroe and Pixel Parties from The Woodlands were on hand to take photos of the event and pictures with children atop Mr. Bunnys lap.

Bonnette also said there were a number of new activities at this years event.

This year weve added mini stock car racing. Bonnette said. She also said that in addition to a usual snake exhibit, there was going to be a crocodile on display for children to see.

Mates go for more success, nearly three decades on

Posted: March 24, 2012 at 12:14 am

TWENTY-eight years ago, Michael Murphy, Dale Mitchell and David Ryan savoured premiership success.

Today, with a strong bond forged through cricket, the great mates are hoping to once again win the games ultimate prize.

They may not move as fast as they used to and the grade might be a rung or two down from where their careers peaked, but the Brierly Christ Church life members, who have played a combined total of more than 1080 senior games, are as excited about todays division three showdown with Russells Creek as they were all those years ago.

The trio played in the Bulls most recent premiership, the 1983-84 A reserve flag, and would dearly love another one as the end of their careers near.

Murphy, who turns 50 in two weeks, is adamant the grand final is his swansong.

I had retired . . . several times, Murphy said.

But (son and coach) Nathan talked me into playing a few games because they were short of players. A few games turned into most of the season.

But its been far from a chore for the paceman, who now describes his speed as slow medium.

I just enjoy playing with mates Mitch, Dave Ryan and Gary Stonehouse. To come back and have a year with them has been great.

Murphy said his knees were buggered and he had to use his personal relationship with the coach to not bowl at training during the week.

Oxnard College baseball hoping for a run of success

Posted: at 12:14 am

It hasn't been all sea breeze and endless blue sky in Oxnard this spring.

The frustration has been on a rolling boil at the Condors' Nest, where the Oxnard College baseball team has struggled to plate enough runs to support a strong pitching rotation.

"We've got good pitching and we play defense," Oxnard head coach Jon Larson said. "Offensively, it's been hard to watch."

The proud program of professional hitters like Terry Pendelton, Paul McAnulty and Erik Komatsu, of four all-state sluggers (Jake Mahan, Mario Landeros, Jonathan Erb and J.C. Aguayo) in just the past two seasons, is hitting just .260 and slugging .310 through 20 games.

"A lot of Mendozas," said Larson, referring to the Mendoza Line, which in baseball parlay is hitting below .200. "I can't explain it. It drives me nuts."

A pair of draft-caliber sophomores in smooth centerfielder Westley Wright and quick-handed shortstop Kevin Minjares have attempted to carry the offense.

Wright's .388 batting average is fourth in the WSC North. The Moorpark High product also leads the team with 21 runs scored and six doubles, as well as two of the team's three triples and one of the team's two home runs.

"He's long and swings like a man," Larson said. "He's pretty dang good."

Minjares, who has already signed to play at the University of Oregon, is hitting .333 with a team-high 14 RBIs.

The rest of the team is hitting .230.

Brew-haha at Starbucks Investor Conference

Starbucks (NASDAQ: SBUX) has issued more game changing press releases in the past two weeks than most of its competitors have announced in the past year. Soon after Starbucks unleashed its plans to expand into the $8 billion premium single-serve coffee market, as well as its full launch into the premium juice market with its Evolution Fresh branded stores, the retailer has shown that it still has other tricks up its sleeve. In digesting the message from the coffee kings March 21st investor conference, it is clear that the relevancy of the Starbucks brand is swiftly growing.

Starbucks Refreshers

The retailers latest venture uses the extract of unroasted (green) coffee to create a light and, as the product name implies refreshing energy drink entry into the $8 billion industry. Refreshers, sweetened with stevia and lacking huge energy boosters like taurine and additional caffeine, will be a lighter competitor to popular market incumbents including Red Bull and Monster (NASDAQ: MNST). However, this should not imply that the product has little chance of success, as it will be targeted towards a more sophisticated, coffee-enjoying adult core group, and is intended to further boost the traffic that patronizes Starbucks stores in later day parts. Many of the corporations new product offerings, including juices, teas, expanded food menus, and even after-work alcoholic drinks (wine/beer) have acted to spread out the traffic at worldwide Starbucks locations.

Although more than three-quarters of the traffic has traditionally come in the morning day parts (5 am 11 am), an increasing percentage has been spread out into early afternoon and late night day parts. Refreshers are intended to further enhance this trend, evening out the number of employees the corporation needs on staff throughout the day, and creating a less crowded, more intimate Starbucks experience for consumers.

If Starbucks Refreshers enjoy even a fraction of the success as other entries in the market Monsters revenues have grown at a 30+% CAGR over the past decade the new venture should add a hearty revenue stream in addition to the corporations core offerings.

Deeper Penetration into Single Serve

The Starbucks/Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (NASDAQ: GMCR) pairing to co-produce Starbucks-branded k-cups for the Keurig machine has been a suitable first step into the premium single-serve market. Starbucks shipped more than 100 million branded k-cup packs during the first quarter of the year, and the retailers own venture into the market with its upcoming Verismo machine will give it further access to unlock the benefits of Green Mountains razor/blade sales model.

Being released during the holiday season alongside Starbucks Verismo is Green Mountains own high-pressure Vue machine. Similar to the existing low-pressure Keurig, Starbucks will continue its relationship with Green Mountain through the Vue machine, co-branding Vue packs for release in department stores and general merchandise retailers.
