Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald to visit Oxfam America's humanitarian and development programs in Ethiopia

BOSTON, March 16, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Former teammates and NFL superstars Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald are again teaming up with international relief and development organization Oxfam to raise awareness of the food crisis in East Africa. The Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals wide receivers will travel to Ethiopia with Oxfam for a first-hand account of the drought and famine affecting more than 13 million people in the region.

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20080221/DC14723LOGO)

Boldin and Fitzgerald will embark on a four-day trip across Ethiopia beginning March 27. The duo will meet with villagers affected by the crisis, local Oxfam partner organizations and internationally known Ethiopian athletes to bring attention to the region. They will also visit Oxfam programs in the field such as an irrigation project that brings water to much needed areas.

"Four months after Larry and I issued a public service announcement with Oxfam, we are excited to meet face-to-face with those affected by the food crisis in Ethiopia and witness some of the life-saving programs Oxfam is undertaking in the field," said Boldin.

This is the second time in four months the players, who are widely known for off-the-field contributions to communities in need, have joined Oxfam to fight hunger in East Africa. In November, the Oxfam ambassadors released a thirty second public service announcement to spotlight the growing need for relief funds.

"We are traveling with Oxfam to see first-hand how communities are affected and how we can help," said Fitzgerald. "By bringing further attention to the famine, we hope to energize our fans and the public to do what they can to assist."

The United Nations officially recognized the disaster affecting over 13 million people in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia in July 2011 with a declaration of famine. Oxfam, in collaboration with local partner organizations, aims to reach over 3 million people affected by the crisis across the region with aid and sustainable development programs.

"We are grateful for the personal engagement of Mr. Boldin and Mr. Fitzgerald," said Raymond C. Offenheiser, president of Oxfam America. "Continuing to raise public awareness of the famine in East Africa remains critical with emergency conditions expected to last well into 2012. It's a great opportunity to highlight what local communities are doing for themselves, and how Oxfam, and our supporters, can help."

MMRGlobal Introduces Worldwide Standardized Personal Health Record and Document Management System to America's Military

Posted: at 12:30 pm

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire -03/16/12)- MMRGlobal, Inc. (OTC.BB: MMRF.OB - News) ("MMR"), a leading provider of Personal Health Records (PHRs) and electronic document management and imaging systems for healthcare professionals, today announced it presented the Company's patented Personal Health Record products and services for active military, civilian personnel, veterans and America's wounded warriors at the Military Electronic Health Records Conference, March 15-16, in Washington, D.C. MMR is no stranger to Wounded Warriors initiatives, having sponsored The Thalians benefit for Operation Mend. The event chaired by MMRGlobal Chief Executive Officer Robert H. Lorsch and Company Spokesperson Kira Reed Lorsch raised more than $1 million last year for the Operation Mend program that helps heal severely wounded U.S. service members.

The Company's standardized approach to health information technology offers seamless connectivity to personal health information for military and civilian personnel wherever they are stationed in the world. Using the Company's MyMedicalRecords Personal Health Record technology, medical records and other important documents can be securely managed for active duty personnel and veterans and their families from any hospital or healthcare facility in the world to the most advanced electronic medical record systems currently being deployed by the Department of Defense (DoD), the Department of Veterans Affairs and major contractors. The system also acts as a communications and message center for the entire family to share photos, notes and videos when a family member is away.

According to Richard M. Lagani, MMRGlobal Executive Vice President, "Our nation's wounded warriors are receiving care from doctors, hospitals and healthcare professionals in locations around the world, and what we are learning is that MyMedicalRecords is one of the only services of its kind that is ready to be deployed anywhere in the world that our military is deployed. Despite the fact that standardization across varied systems in the DoD/VA environment is rare, MMR can seamlessly connect to any medical facility in the world regardless of the level of technology employed without significant connectivity or integration costs."

MMR management is meeting with military and civilian personnel at the Military EHR Conference who are working on DoD/VA interoperability. MMR's patented solutions meet the needs of both the DoD and VA, providing access from virtually anywhere through any web-enabled device. Furthermore, MMR offers the one solution that easily bridges the gap between civilian and military health records for active duty personnel and their families.

Each MyMedicalRecords account can cover a family of up to 10 members, providing secure storage, retrieval and sharing of personal health information and actual copies of medical records and medical images such as X-rays and CT scans in addition to any important document needed in an emergency. In addition to safely maintaining a full range of personal health data for easy access, including lab reports and test results, conditions, medications and immunization records, MyMedicalRecords also includes multiple special "lockbox" folders with secondary passwords to protect other important documents such as military discharge papers, gun permits, passports, birth and marriage certificates, insurance policies, and deeds of trust. Moreover, because of its patented integrated telecommunications platform, the MyMedicalRecords Personal Health Record also incorporates an online pin-protected voice mailbox.

About MMRGlobal, Inc.

MMRGlobal, Inc., through its wholly-owned operating subsidiary, MyMedicalRecords, Inc. ("MMR"), provides secure and easy-to-use online Personal Health Records ("PHRs") and electronic safe deposit box storage solutions, serving consumers, healthcare professionals, employers, insurance companies, financial institutions, and professional organizations and affinity groups. The MyMedicalRecords PHR enables individuals and families to access their medical records and other important documents, such as birth certificates, passports, insurance policies and wills, anytime from anywhere using the Internet. MyMedicalRecords is built on proprietary, patented technologies to allow documents, images and voicemail messages to be transmitted and stored in the system using a variety of methods, including fax, phone, or file upload without relying on any specific electronic medical record platform to populate a user's account. The Company's professional offering, MMRPro, is designed to give physicians' offices an easy and cost-effective solution to digitizing paper-based medical records and sharing them with patients in real time through an integrated patient portal. MMR is an Independent Software Vendor Partner with Kodak to deliver an integrated turnkey EMR solution for healthcare professionals. Through its merger with Favrille, Inc. in January 2009, the Company acquired intellectual property biotech assets that include anti-CD20 antibodies and data and samples from its FavId/Specifid vaccine clinical trials for the treatment of B-Cell Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The Box Hill School is a an independent boarding school of international character that caters to students ages 1118. Box Hill pupils enjoy a premium location only 40 minutes outside of London and thrive in an environment that puts personal development on the same level of importance as academic achievement.

As a Round Square school, Box Hill upholds the principles of internationalism, democracy, environment, leadership, adventure and service. These are the ideals the faculty and staff strive to impart to students in order to prepare them for lives of global service and success.

Pic: Box Hill School

A recent Independent Schools Inspectorate Report found that Box Hill students possessed an outstanding moral awareness and cultural development. The report described Box Hill students as compassionate young people who are committed to serving those less fortunate than themselves. It also cited a high rate of parental satisfaction with the school, and a strong school-parent relationship as being among their strongest points.

At all levels of a Box Hill education, students participate in a curriculum that is carefully balanced to maximize their exposure to a range of subjects in a meaningful way. Class sizes are small so students get the most from their lessons, and have access to additional help and support if they need it.

During their 12th and 13th years at Box Hill, qualifying senior students may begin studying for the International Baccalaureate diploma. Successful completion of this program will poise students to enter well-respected universities after their Box Hill graduation. The International Baccalaureate program attends to all aspects of students development and is well-regarded by universities around the world.

In keeping with the theme of small group learning experiences, the boarding house communities at Box Hill are kept small as well, though all students have opportunities to meet and mix with one another.

The boarding experience helps students become more than classmates, and they develop long-lasting friendships that extend beyond their time at Box Hill.

Each semester, Box Hill offers a plethora of extracurricular activities that will appeal to all tastes. In athletics, there are yoga, rugby, archery and tae kwan do, self-defense, hockey and climbing. Skills courses cover everything from cooking, street dance, board games, astronomy and a magic club. Service opportunities include gardening, sign language and first aid courses. And that is but a sampling from which students may choose.

On-campus activities are supported by special events and trips, such as paintball and skydiving excursions and a visit to nearby Brighton. This spring, students were treated to a cooking lesson at celebrity chef Jamie Olivers Recipease cooking school and shop.

First Person: Am I Giving Enough to Charity?

Posted: at 7:06 am

I love reading personal finance articles on Yahoo! Finance. There are so many great stories on investing, budgeting, debt management, spending wisely, career development and so on. But it took filling out my 2011 Income Taxes to ask myself one of the most difficult personal finance questions a person can ask themselves: am I giving enough to charity?

In my mind, the five pillars of personal finance are income, spending, saving, investing and giving. Sadly, it seems as though giving is almost completely forgotten about when it comes to learning about one's own finances. What is the point of working to become wealthy if you aren't going to give some of your riches to those less fortunate? After all, a person can only take so many vacations or own so many boats before possessions begin to feel hallow.

Now back to my original question. When filling out my incomes taxes this year, I realized that I gave just over 3% of my disposable income to my favorite charitable organizations in 2011.

Comparable to Most Americans

According to Giving USA, Americans gave approximately 2.2% of their disposable income to nonprofit organizations in 2008. That comes to roughly $229 billion that individuals across America donated to charity that year.

So in comparison to most Americans, I am a little above average on giving. Though to be sure, there are millions of Americans that give 5, 10, 15 or even 20% of their incomes away each year.

Lacking from a Religious Point of View

From a faith perspective, my giving is severely lacking.

For practicing Christians and Jews, the act of tithing 10% of what a person earns is mentioned several times in the Bible. The most notable example is in the book of Genesis, when Jacob promises to give a tenth of what he receives back to God.

Practicing Muslims take a similar, yet different approach to giving. In Islam, the Koran specifies that people are to give a contribution known as Zakat, which amounts to 2.5% of a person's net worth, each year.

Wedding Website Provider Cites Rise of Facebook, Pinterest as Catalyst Behind New Online Software

Posted: at 7:06 am

without comments

Personal wedding website and planning tools service WedShare.com has just released several new social media apps, with another series in development. They report that the increased integration with services like Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest is becoming more in demand by today's tech-savvy couples.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) March 14, 2012

According to WedShare, tech is the new white, and ditching the pen and paper is on the rise. Rising membership shows that every year, larger numbers of tech-savvy nearlyweds use point-and-click tools like those available at WedShare.com to create personal wedding websites: online showcases for their photos, maps and directions, gift registries, and more. But as social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest become ever more popular and ubiquitous, couples are also looking to carry over that social experience to their own personal sites. In 2011, more social media integration was the most common feature request that WedShare received.

"What the social media experience gives you is the ability to interact immediately with your friends and family, sharing your experiences with others and vice versa in new ways," says WedShare president and co-founder Jason Melendez. "It's the same thing engaged couples are doing with their wedding websites, so it's only natural to combine the two. What's interesting is how much things are changing, and how fast."

Melendez says that 17% of couples last year used social media in their wedding planning. Seven years prior, social media didn't even exist. That's right: Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and the like were all yet to be seen. Google+ came about even more recently, and Pinterest--a site garnering a lot of buzz these days--is brand new. Melendez says that the advent of such social media services has completely changed how we interact with one another online, including when planning a wedding. Whether it's posting a Pinterest inspiration board alongside your reception location details, or integrating live video feeds and Facebook comments, the possibilities are growing every day, and it has caused WedShare to change how they develop their wedding website apps.

"Social media integration is increasing exponentially," Melendez says. "Last year we were integrated with just Twitter and YouTube. This year already we have apps for Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, multiple apps for Facebook, and an entire new series in the works. It lets couples personalize their wedding websites so much more. We're excited to see how things will play out moving forward."
