We are nestled in a secluded nook in the foothills of the beautiful Santa Monica mountains, only a few short miles from Malibus sandy beaches, yet seemingly a million miles from the hustle and bustle of metropolitan Los Angeles.

As our driver takes you up through a small, winding glen dotted with clusters of coastal oak and solitary ranch homes, if you listen very carefully you will hear a gentle streams soft serenade coming from below.

And as you arrive at the main building and pause at the front door, a wonderfully comforting presence invites you to enter and stay a while.

You have arrived. Your weeklong retreat dedicated to health, fitness and renewal has begun. Get ready for the time of your life. Welcome to The Ashram!

"Only in L.A., the spiritual home to something called 'life enhancement' and 'wellness', would they invent a boot camp for the movie stars. Ashram alumni include Oprah Winfrey, Dan Aykroyd, Shirley MacLaine, Jane Fonda, Faye Dunaway, Ashley Judd, and Amber Valleta."Vogue

Thank you all for this course and unforgettable experience. Thank you all for your warmth and kindness. Thank you all for your love and light. Thank you all for your patience and caring. Thank you for the answer. Thank you for the questions. Thank you for the energy. Thank you for the YOGA. THANK YOU FOR PEACE AND JOY.

No words can even begin to express how this past month has transformed me. Full surrounding of my mind and opening of my heart helped me to journey down a path here in the ashram. A pain I had, now did not exist. I found beauty and joy in experiences every day of my 78 days here. I learned so much about yoga life and myself here. i am so deeply full of grace and compassion for this experience, for the others I had met here. I received new form of energy and lightness inside of me and I have never felt so free. Thank you Paramanand Ashram, Guruji, Sunita, Mahesh, Mahendra, Divya and all teachers and professors for teaching me the beauty that is yoga. I will never ever forget this my energy tracks back none with me.

Thank you Thank you Thank you Guruji for incredible presence, wisdom, kindness and passion. I will always be grateful for the grace. Thank you all the staff my new brothers and sisters Sunita, Mahesh, Mahendra, Dr. Sunil, Dr. Shah, Prof.Divya etc. I have had so many amazing experiences in my time here & the memories will always live with me. I never knew I would be born again through it & awaken to my true life purpose. I didnt know how much I needed this. Every day I was taught something new. Every day in this new life on this new journey, I step forward & into enlightenment. What more could anyone ask for? Peace, Balance, Liberation, Freedom, Love, Unity, Oneness, Bliss, Surrender...letting go of my desires; attachments; ego such amazing lesson I have learnt? SELF REALIZATION. I FINALLY KNOW THE MEANING & what it is I am working towards. I look forward to meeting everyone again and to the day. I can help others discover what I did and & find PEACE, BALANCE, HAPPINESS. The staff here is incredible. I highly recommend. HARI OM.

Wow 6 months how to put into mere words the experience that I have had here in this time. I feel stripped of any false sense of who "I" was before I got here and I look forward to continuing the journey of PURIFICATION and SELF EXPLORATION. I have a deeper sense of love for myself & others and now have a more propound experience of COMPARISON. Rich experience. I am full of ratitude, love, compassion and light received from Paramanand Yoga. I witness, met and was thrilled to shoot video of Guruji with most powerful man of India, Honorable Mr. Mohanji Bhagwat, visiting Ashram, who guided largest Yoga Class in the World, 175000 people doing yoga at the same time. Lots of radiance and positive energy flowing all around in the Paramanand Ashram, be ready to take it.

This is really challenging for me to put into words of my experience here. It seems so surreal that two months have come and go so quickly & it is time to leave. Hearty Thanks to Guruji and all here, you have made this ashram HOME a loving home at that. I am so blessed to have experienced this amazing place n its truly the people that make it. It has been life changing experience to me so sad to leave. PEACE.. HAPPINESS...OM SHANTI SHANTI ..SHANTI...

How would you describe? How a pear taste lke, if the person listening to you never had the chance to try it so far? Well, its sweet but sour, soft but graining, juicy but crunchy too. No matter how hard you try, your vocabulary wont be sufficient. The person wont fully understand, he is tried to pear himself. This situation given is how I feel right now. There were so many wonderful things happening within myself. Words cant describe. The last month was a journey toward my inner Truth, the subtle 'Me'. I was able to let go of my 'shoulds' and started enjoying not having /being in control all the time... something which feels or rather felt, against my nature happened here in the Ashram. I am deeply grateful for all the awakening, I have experienced, feelings/energy/love/pictures/places/lights and everything together. I am learning with a calmer mind and peace & love at heart. My heartful thanks to every one enabling my personal growth. Thanks Guruji for teaching about life - you helped to understand it a 'little better' (I have just the impression the more I know, the more there is..) Such a great wisdom which I look forward to sharing with others. Thanks to Professor for his small extras taught in between the lines and his pure fearless being. An Absolute inspiration- somebody who lives from the heart. Thanks to Dr. Shah, his openness is absolutely adorable and thanks to Dr. Bansal who seems to put everything into other betterment. I am blessed and deeply thankful for all the helping hands and friends in the ashram, without whom nothing would have been possible. Thanks to all my friends for the laughs and joining in classes. Whereever I go, I will take you with me in my heart. HARI OM , OMKARI

I have been here for month now and extended my stay for one more month. I feel like little drop in the ocean. I have so much of experience, in front of me. I have got very good guideline and experienced knowledge from guru ji and his teachers. I will continue practice at surrender complete so I can receive as much as possible of this truth knowledge here at Paramanand Institute. THANK YOU. Happie, happie, happie, happie.

Hearty Thanks to Paramanand Institute. It has helped me, change my life. . This institute has taught me the improvements... Deepest gratitude.

Thanks to everyone at this wonderful ashram. Paramanand Institute is more than sharing knowledge. I am thankful for all your time. It has been truly Bliss.

This whole month at Paramanand Institute was a dream, a miracle for me. Yoga is an eternal journey and I m standing right at the beginning of it. i know my first step will be easier. Thank you to guru ji light & inspiration. I m really grateful to his sincerity during the training. I will try my best to follow his words. This was an amazing beginning; I m sure we will meet each other for many times during this life. Thank you guruji sunita to take care of us; my team mates friends & all other members of Paramanand Institute.

I still remember the first day when I came. I was suffering a really bad allergy and I was sneezing every morning. I was wondering how am I going to survive here for two months. After just three weeks. Just like that I stopped sneezing. The allergy has been troubled me for 26 yrs was gone... I feel I'm very lucky to be in this group. Because the girls were the best!! Paramanand institute is the one big family. Guruji & sunita are like our parents. Other teachers are like our relative. They have raised us up and now it is our job to go out there to do our work and deep inside. Our heart we know we could always come home. Best of luck for everyone

HOW I GOT HERE... because of my intuition. And now after one month amazedly interesting new life experience here, I can say my excellent institution, thank you all the people who I met have and of course Guruji who helped me to understand deeper myself, in the world, the life and answered many my questions. And of course gave me so huge knowledge which I never had before. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.

I had amazing and awesome learning, experiencing and practicing Yoga in Paramanand Yoga. Indeed a place I can say ultimate for learning Yoga in depth. I am highly indebted with thewisdom and knowledge shared by Guruji and entire staff. I visited Paramanand Institute twice after completing my Yoga Teachers Training course. Each time I learn something deeper and unique for my higher knowledge. Professors and Doctors are highly talented and professionals. I experienced that true knowledge is imparted and helped me in raising my capabilities and transformation of my life. Hearty thanks to all.

When I came to Paramanand, I was already loaded with rich experience of teaching yoga for 12 years. But what I learned here has opened my eyes to true, authentic and deeper yoga. I have no words. I came to Paramanand Institute for Advance Yoga Teachers Training. Every teachings from Asana, Pranayama, Meditation, Mudras, Bandhas and Shat Karmas with very deeper experience and energy awakening. All are awesome and I had unbelievable experience, which has totally changed my life and I experience a very higher level of purification and perfection. Many thanks Guruji, for transforming my life. All faculty and staff are like my new family found in India.

I came here that I was already in the path of Yoga and now I can realize that in the last 3 years I changed a lot the surface (=body) and also habits, following a yogic code of conduct. But here I went inside..where I never was before and my feeling right now is as I started digging into me, as if I founded dirty water that I am able to throughout only with mediation. So the changing that I feel are in this internal part of me: 1. More clear the games of the mind 2. More control of the mind and senses 3. Experience of myself 4. Meeting myself 5. Vision of my childhood / open a door inside me 6. Vision with eyes open 7. Loosing bad energy = cleaning during meditation 8. More aware of my thoughts 9. More connect with the Nature and Universe 10. More connect with others 11. Less walls, less barriers 12. More free to be myself 13. More links with other (simpler, short time) 14. More sure of myself 15. More and less sensible 16. More look in the prospective of others 17. More look at the good of others 18. More happy 19. More emphatic 20. More flexibility in the mind as well as in the body 21. More open to learn 22. More spiritual than scientific 23. More trust in myself 24. More believe in the supreme energy 25.More knowledge about the Nature and the human being than in all my studies 26. More strategies to know the Atma 27. No sorrow 28. More living in the present 29. More egoless 30. More happy to share 31. More families and real friends 32. More subtle connection with the people 33. Experience of true love 34. Experience of energy 35. More thanks

Becoming a yoga teacher is a big step forward in your experience of yoga.

.

If you want to learn a topic then teach it.

.

Being able to share yoga with friends, family and clients is rewarding in many ways. Whether you are interested primarily in your own personal development or becoming a yoga teacher, we have a range of courses in which you can achieve both.

All of our courses have been developed in response to the enthusiasm of our students wanting to learn, practice, live and teach the science of yoga. Please read through the information provided and we encourage you to talk to us or any of our graduates with further queries.

.

.

Personal growth, to teach family and friends, a change of career.

Learn an in-depth, integrated, holistic and progressive system of yoga ranging from beginning through to advanced levels.

Enjoy a highly practical and experiential orientation of training to help you become a confident and capable teacher and to develop a strong basis for ongoing personal practice, learning and development.

Benefit from a uniquely effective teaching system and style of presentation which springs from an authentic tradition of yoga combined with the several decades of personal experience, practice and learning of the instructors.

On-going support, training, mentorship, encouragement and involvement are available.

.

Yoga is a life-long journey of discovery and we believe that it is much more than a system of physical development. We teach in a holistic way which emcompasses the deeper, more subtle aspects of yoga. Whilst definitely emphasising the physical body, our system also specifically works with the breath, the life-energy and the mind in order to help bring about a balanced state of wellbeing, vitality and a deeper attunement with our true inner-selves.

Yoga is a very broad science. You learn a systematic approach to classical yoga enabling you to teach for the whole personality. From the vast range of practices learnt, you can creatively and intuitively structure classes and programmes for your students individual and general needs.

For those of you inspired to make a deeper study of yoga we are committed to providing a complete system of training which guides students in a progressive and systematic way to develop a strong personal yoga practice and to become confident and capable to teach from beginners to advanced. We offer several courses for this and you can study to the level you so desire, within your own commitments and needs.

There is no requirement to do all of our teacher training courses, especially if you are doing it more for personal development. However, if you are wanting yoga to be your profession, we advise that you do complete all of them over a 2 5 year period.

.

The courses train you to teach a complete system of yoga postures, breathing, relaxation and meditation.

Our yoga syllabus is taught in three levels:

.

Level 1: beginner to intermediate

Level 2:intermediate to advanced

Level 3:advanced

.

Each level takes you to a higher standard of proficiency. Level 1 is suitable for absolute beginners and starts with simple practices. By the end of Level 1 you will have built a firm foundation based on experience and understanding. This experience gives you the grounding to teach with confidence.

The Level 1 and 2 in particular are not just a weekend course per month, but rather six months of daily learning and growing. The workshop sessions, home practice and assignments are all part of this course and are all aspects of receiving your Teacher Training Certificate.

Each workshop session involves group dynamics and a specific group of postures; we also teach you pranayama, relaxation (yoga nidra) and meditation in a systematic way. Commitment to the weekend workshops and daily practice is essential. If for unavoidable reasons you are unable to attend one of the days, extra tuition is necessary for completion of the course and is not included in the course fee.

.

Please note: there are no exams in our teacher training courses. There are assignments that we mark and give you feedback, but no tests. There is no way to fail any of the teacher training courses!

.

Extra yogic courses and workshops are conducted throughout the year providing ongoing training, inspiration and deeper knowledge within specific areas (e.g. back care, pranayama, chakras, meditation, etc.) Most workshops and retreats are discounted for Ashram Yoga trainees or teachers. There are also regular teacher forums to swap ideas, information and learn new ways and methods of teaching from one another, Ashram Yoga teachers or guest teachers.

.

The beginnings of Ashram Yoga may be traced back to1980 when Swami Shantimurti Saraswaticame toNew Zealandto teachyoga. Since these early days, we have worked ceaselessly for the development of yoga both within New Zealand and overseas.

Ashram Yogas unique teaching style is based on traditional yogabut also includes the senior instructors many years of experience of teaching yoga. We have developed a comprehensive, thorough and effective set of teachings. The range of practices we present are vast and taught from absolute beginners through to becoming an advance yoga instructor.

The range of practices we present are vast and taught from absolute beginners onwards. Teacher trainees are encouraged to incorporate their own experiences of yoga into the teachings. We also teach you how to apply yoga practices to any type of student, according to the level of the course you are studying.

Ashram of Sri Aurobindo

Posted: October 12, 2015 at 1:51 pm

Sri Aurobindo was born in Calcutta on 15 August 1872. At the age of seven he was taken to England for education. There he studied at St. Paul's School, London, and at King's College, Cambridge. Returning to India in 1893, he worked for the next thirteen years in the Princely State of Baroda in the service of the Maharaja and as a professor in Baroda College. During this period he also joined a revolutionary society and took a leading role in secret preparations for an uprising against the British Government in India.

In 1906, soon after the Partition of Bengal, Sri Aurobindo quit his post in Baroda and went to Calcutta, where he soon became one of the leaders of the Nationalist movement. He was the first political leader in India to openly put forward, in his newspaper Bande Mataram, the idea of complete independence for the country. Prosecuted twice for sedition and once for conspiracy, he was released each time for lack of evidence.

Sri Aurobindo had begun the practice of Yoga in 1905 in Baroda. In 1908 he had the first of several fundamental spiritual realisations. In 1910 he withdrew from politics and went to Pondicherry in order to devote himself entirely to his inner spiritual life and work. During his forty years in Pondicherry he evolved a new method of spiritual practice, which he called the Integral Yoga. Its aim is a spiritual realisation that not only liberates man's consciousness but also transforms his nature. In 1926, with the help of his spiritual collaborator, the Mother, he founded the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. Among his many writings are The Life Divine, The Synthesis of Yoga and Savitri. Sri Aurobindo left his body on 5 December 1950.

"I came to Ananda Ashram with uncertain aims but felt drawn to a calm, yoga filled weekend. I walked away wholly transformed and plan to return again. It is a very "vibey" place. You can make your own experience and stay as busy as you like. there is a general weekend schedule + special workshops that cost extra. I'm not a vegetarian but enjoyed going veg for the weekend.

Tips:

I'd highly suggest taking a walk around the lake - it's beautiful! I brought an additional pillow after reading the ones they had were bad. They were fine but I appreciated having an extra.

Accommodations were clean and simple. I did not come here for a "luxury" yoga retreat. The simplicity of it all paired well with the general mind clearing the weekend provided.

I came alone and would recommend that for other first timers. Great way to get out of your comfort zone and detach. People were friendly and I left with new friends."

If you are just looking for a place to get some peace and quiet, this is the spot for you! The living quarters are a little cramped (no single rooms), but the property is beautiful, and the staff is very nice and accommodating.

"I really enjoyed my stay at Ananda Ashram and I am happy to give feedback and writer a review. I arrived at Ananda in the evening after the reception had closed and was extremely grateful to have a pack left out with instructions although I feel instructions on times of meditation would have also helped as I hadnt realised that I arrived during a meditation time and therefore was not conscientious of this.

The Ashram is beautiful and amazing and I would highly recommend all of the yoga classes, I made sure I went to everything to make my experience worth while but you are welcome and encouraged to follow your own journey, if you do not want to participate you are more than welcome to do your own thing. I fell in love with the food, it was healthy and nutritious.

Plenty of vegetables, you could add Maca and seeds to your food and I slightly over ate because of this, make sure you dont before a yoga class. All in all I would love to re-visit the Ashram, this time in the spring or summer, it was beautiful under snow and calming but I can only imagine the rejuvenation of the spring.

"I spent Labor Day weekend here for their regular retreat. Excellent yoga classes, lovely grounds around a pretty lake and delicious vegetarian food were the highlights. Meditation was good but I am not a fan of the fire ceremony due to the fumes.

We stayed in a semiprivate room, which was quiet the first night but the next day, two toddlers arrived with their mothers, who did not respect the quiet rules and let their kids run down the halls and make noise early in the morning. Now that summer is over, it should be quieter but I do recommend that you ask if young children will be there if you book a semiprivate room as your stay may not be altogether peaceful. "

"I've been practicing yoga and meditation for 25 years and have had the good fortune to travel to ashrams around the world. This ashram is the real thing. Yoga in all of its limbs and levels is taught and practiced by seasoned practitioners. Outstanding asanas, Sanskrit classes, Truly transformative."

"Spiritual seekers can find India's true, tried depth only an hour outside of New York. Those who are looking for a cheap hotel or a spa should look elsewhere. Ananda is an Ashram - which means a spiritual retreat center. If anyone is on any sort of spiritual path, this means looking deep into your self - including low tolerance of amenities that are not at all spa-like, but heavenly as in one with nature. yes, you will share dorm space, yes, you might have to camp and yes, there will be lots of people there with you whom you may or may not like. Spiritual centers are about seeing one's own judgments, criticisms and constantly wavering mind stuff in the light of a Guru's wisdom. If you want the Guru's light, you've got to sit next to the fire. And the fire is at Ananda Ashram."
